Savannah State University is a public historically black university in Savannah, Georgia. It is the oldest historically black public university in the state. The university is a member-school of the Thurgood Marshall College Fund.Savannah State operates four colleges (College of Business Administration, College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, College of Sciences and Technology and the Savannah State University College of Education). In addition to four distinct academic colleges, the university also offers Office of Graduate Studies and Sponsored Research (OGSSR). It also participates in research centers and programs at the Center for Teaching, Learning and Academic Support; Savannah Entrepreneurial Center; the Midtown Project; the Georgia Institute of Technology Regional Engineering Program (GTREP); and "A Collaboration to Integrate Research and Education in Marine and Environmental Science and Biotechnology" with the Skidaway Institute of Oceanography, part of the University of Georgia.
What role do scientists play in providing policy knowledge in public debates? Drawing on the Advocacy Coalition Framework, this study examines how scientists express elements of policy knowledge-namely, policy problems, causal explanations, and expected impacts-within a contentious offshore wind policy debate in the United States. Utilizing a combined dataset of 1275 policy statements from news articles and public meeting testimonies, the study applies statistical network analysis, offering a methodological contribution to policy research. The findings show that scientists, though often viewed as neutral actors, tend to align with coalitions, distinguish themselves by emphasizing policy problems and causes supported by evidence, and play a more central role when government policy positions oppose those of their coalition. This study advances understanding of scientists' behavior as coalition members in policy conflicts and highlights the distinctive character of their policy discourse. & iquest;Qu & eacute; papel desempe & ntilde;an los cient & iacute;ficos en la aportaci & oacute;n de conocimiento pol & iacute;tico en los debates p & uacute;blicos? This paper focusses on the design, development, construction and testing of two biologically inspired walking robots: a six-legged hexapod prototype a refined four-legged quadruped robot. Each robot was constructed and retrofitted with parts to perform locomotion obstacle avoidance using sensor-based feedback obstacle avoidance. The Hexapod was focused and emphasized with tripod gait principles stability, while being equipped and powered by an Arduino Mega 2560 microcontroller. A quadruped robot was built for improved mechanical efficiency and wiring efficiently with retaining the same embedded systems integration of ultrasonic sensor detection logic. Both robots were built under strict cost and resource constraints, with also highlighting the modular software, gait-based mobility, and feedback from the sensor integrated, further reinforced the research used for this project on terrain classification and open sources for robotics.
This study explores how Facebook and online media usage affect academic performance and communication styles among university students, focusing on the moderating roles of multitasking and student interest in university (SIU). Drawing on time displacement theory, it develops and empirically tests a conceptual model linking digital media engagement with academic outcomes, face-to-face communication (FTFC), and internet-based communication (IBC). The research is based on survey data from students at two leading universities in India and Russia. Using Covariance-Based Structural Equation Modeling (CBSEM), the study identifies significant gender differences and confirms that multitasking and SIU moderate several key relationships. By providing contextual insights from India and Russia, this study enriches cross-country discussions on the educational implications of social media usage. The findings inform theory and offer practical guidance for educators and policymakers in managing student engagement in digitally connected environments.
Environmental policymaking is intrinsically intricate, involving diverse actors, competing values, and scientific knowledge. Policy actors strategically construct arguments to influence decision making, with discourse serving as a central medium in policy debates. Drawing on insights from the Advocacy Coalition Framework and the Discourse Coalition literatures, this study examines how policy actors share beliefs and discourses to persuade others in contentious policy conflicts. Using U.S. wind energy policy debates as a case of contested environmental politics, this study analyzes discourse presented through news media during a period marked by changes in national political leadership and broader shifts in wind energy policy. Policy actors' statements were coded and analyzed using Discourse Network Analysis. The results show that (i) discourse coalitions formed around problems and solutions based on actors' policy beliefs, (ii) discourse coalitions remained relatively stable despite changes in government leadership, and (iii) policy frames exhibited distinct patterns across coalitions and shifts in the political environment. This study advances understanding of coalition dynamics in contentious energy and environmental policymaking by showing how policy beliefs and discourses shape coalition interactions, and how distinguishing advocacy and discourse coalitions enables a more nuanced understanding of coalition stability and adaptation under political change.
Employees in the hospitality and service industries are facing intense pressure due to the technology-driven climate in the industry. Firms are leaning on automation to address budgetary, efficiency, and labor challenges. Employees in the industry have become aware that automated processes are poised to replace routine tasks, and their jobs may be at serious risk. This study investigated whether hospitality employees’ perceptions of automation in their workplace affect their engagement in organizational citizenship behaviors. It also examined the moderating role of occupational commitment between perceived automatability of the job and individual-directed organizational citizenship behavior. Furthermore, the relationship between perceived automatability of the job and employees’ turnover intentions was explored. The results of the study support the moderating relationship and all direct relationships.
