This study presents the development of electrochemical biosensors for the glycated albumin (GA) sensitive detection as a crucial biomarker for monitoring glycaemic control in diabetes mellitus (DM). A ferrocene-labelled DNA aptamer specific to glycated albumin was developed as an electrochemical aptamer-based sensor to detect GA. The amine-functionalized graphene nanoplatelets (GNPs), with their enhanced surface area, provided an optimal substrate for aptamer immobilization through covalent interactions. The layer-by-layer full EDC/NHS-GNPs-Aptamer biosensor, tested by cyclic voltammetry (CV), exhibited strong redox peaks due to the good electron transfer activity between the biosensing structures. The GA-aptamer binding was studied using square wave voltammetry (SWV), and the data revealed a linear relationship for a wide range of concentrations between 10 and 10,000 μ g/mL with a low limit of detection (LOD) of 0.12 μg/mL. The performance of EDC/NHS-GNPs-Aptamer-GA displayed high selectivity and good response to the low concentrations, making it a valuable tool for clinical diagnostics and the management of diabetic patients.
Poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) is a synthetic polymer that is extensively utilized in a wide variety of industries for medical devices and electronics, such as OLEDs and solar cells. In spite of its wide range of applications, the stability of the polymer under UV exposure remains a significant issue that negatively affects its performance, especially in an outdoor environment. Recent studies revealed that PMMA suffers from significant loss of mechanical properties after UV light exposure because of chain scission and bond breaking. To address this issue, pure PMMA is blended with PMMA modified using 1,4-phenylenediamine and one of the following photostabilizers: 2-nitrobenzaldehyde, 4-nitrobenzaldehyde, or 3,4-dimethoxybenzaldehyde. The modified polymers were identified using FTIR, 1H NMR, and energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX) spectroscopies. Further, the influence of UV light on pure PMMA and the blends was assessed using various approaches, including functional group indices, the percentage of weight loss, and the leaching/extraction test. The made films were also characterized before and after irradiation by SEM and AFM images. Results show that the blends have superior photostability compared to pure PMMA, especially the blend containing 3,4-dimethoxybenzaldehyde. This blend has the lowest values of functional group indices and weight loss, as well as a smooth surface according to the SEM image after 300 h of irradiation.
This research paper aims to investigate the potential of natural products, specifically capers, which contain flavonoids and have high potential for use as chemical catalysts and biosorbents in water purification and treating dye residues, such as the removal of Eosin Y dye from aqueous solutions by photolysis. This study demonstrated the activity of caper aqueous extract in the photodegradation of pollutants using UV light due to its high flavonoid content. This was confirmed by qualitative detection using FeCl3, NaOH. The results of the study showed that the photocatalytic efficiency reached 93% when 25 ml of the extract was irradiated. The prepared plant fruit powder particles were characterized using Ultraviolet Visible (UV-vis) and Fourier Transform Infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, and the adsorption coefficients were studied in the presence and absence of light. The optimum removal of the EY dye concentration between 25 and 100 mg/L was determined using the batch method. Calibration curves were drawn, and the amount of dye adsorbent was calculated. The results showed that when using a concentration of 100 ppm in a volume of 50 ml of dye solution, the optimal time was 60 minutes, and the weight of 0.25 g of powder, the removal percentage was 91.6% with irradiation and 85.6% without irradiation. The optimum dye concentration had a high removal percentage at 100 mg/L with irradiation, 85.6% with irradiation, and 91.6% without irradiation. The Langmuir and Freundlich indexes of the powder were fitted to the adsorption equation. The results showed that the adsorption isotherms were similar to the Freundlich isotherms, but inconsistent with the Langmuir isotherms. When compared to the pH, the removal percentage at (pH=3) with irradiation was 97.6% and without irradiation was 94.2%. Overall, the plant demonstrated its potential as an adsorbent in pollutant treatment systems. The effect of temperature was also studied, and the results showed that adsorption decreased with increasing temperature when using the fruit surface powder with or without light. The study also showed, through the values of the thermodynamic functions, that the adsorption process was spontaneous.
Background: chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection is a major health problem. Females of childbearing age who are infected with hepatitis C are exposed to premature aging of the ovaries, which leads to an imbalance in the levels of sex hormones leptin hormone is associated with all stages of reproductive age. The aim of the present study is to observe levels the liver enzyme, Albumin, total bilirubin, estrogen, progesterone and leptin hormone. Also to evaluate the correlation between ( leptin hormone liver enzyme, Albumin, total bilirubin, estrogen and progesterone ).Methods: Serum liver enzyme, Albumin, total bilirubin, estrogen, progesterone and leptin hormone levels were determined in 33 patients with HCV and 32 healthy subjects. Results: When compared to the control group, the levels of liver enzyme, total bilirubin, estrogen, progesterone and leptin hormone were significantly higher in patients with hepatitis C virus (P ≤ 0.05). On in contrary, levels of Albumin indicated a considerable decrease in patients having hepatitis C virus compared with control subjects (P ≤ 0.05). The present study has reported a positive correlation between leptin hormone and (liver enzyme, total bilirubin, estrogen and progesterone ). Also it has revealed negative correlation between leptin hormone and Albumin.
This article presents an investigation of the space-fractional Stefan problem, a mathematical model formulated to describe phase transition phenomena in materials where heat transfer exhibits anomalous diffusion governed by spatial fractional derivatives of the Caputo type. The proposed formulation effectively captures nonlocal interactions and memory effects commonly observed in media with complex thermal properties, features that classical differential equations fail to accurately represent. The fractional Stefan problem finds broad applicability in modeling heat conduction in heterogeneous materials, solidification of alloys, cryopreservation of biological tissues, moisture transport in porous structures, and thermal evolution in geological formations. To facilitate the analysis, a similarity transformation is employed to reduce the governing space-fractional partial differential equation (PDE) to an equivalent fractional ordinary differential equation (ODE), preserving the essential characteristics of the anomalous diffusion process. The resulting fractional ODE is then solved using the Laplace Adomian Decomposition Method (LADM), which provides an efficient analytical approach for obtaining a series solution while satisfying the imposed initial and boundary conditions. The solution is expressed in terms of the three-parameter Mittag-Leffler function, thereby reflecting the inherent nonlocality of fractional diffusion. Furthermore, the derived solutions are shown to converge to their classical counterparts in the appropriate limiting cases, confirming the validity of the proposed approach. Numerical results are presented to verify the effectiveness and applicability of the proposed method.
