The University of Pécs (UP;PTE; Hungarian: Pécsi Tudományegyetem) is an institution of higher education in Hungary. The year 1367 appears in the seal of the university, it has its roots in the medieval university founded in Pécs in 1367 by King Louis I the Great. 20,000 students presently attend the University of Pécs, approximately 4,500 of whom are international students studying in English or German.
Long COVID affects a substantial proportion of individuals recovering from severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection, yet its underlying pathophysiology remains poorly understood. Although autoimmunity is increasingly implicated in disease pathogenesis, routine diagnostics frequently fail to detect relevant immune dysregulation. To address this gap, we analyzed sera from Long COVID patients (n = 114) and pre-pandemic controls (n = 36) using tissue-based Western blotting targeting cardiac, pulmonary, and vascular antigens, alongside standard ANA HEp-2 testing. Longitudinal samples were additionally evaluated to assess autoantibody dynamics. Autoantibodies were detected in the majority of patients (83
Children of parents with addiction often develop a strong dependency on the family system, assuming various maladaptive roles to maintain a fragile sense of balance. While such adaptations may provide short-term coping mechanisms, they can significantly disrupt identity development and the formation of a stable sense of self. This qualitative study aimed to explore the lived experiences of adult women raised in families affected by parental substance use in a Hungarian sample, with a particular focus on how these early environments shape identity and self-concept in adulthood. Participants were recruited through social media platforms and the mailing lists of Hungarian ACA (Adult Children of Alcoholics) groups. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with a purposive sample of 15 participants, and Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) was applied to identify recurring patterns. Three master themes emerged: Main Theme 1: "I Pretended Nothing Was Wrong", Main Theme 2: "The Question of the Right to Exist", and Main Theme 3: "The 'Homeless' Inner Child". These findings highlight the long-term psychological impact of growing up in addiction-affected households, including difficulties with self-acceptance, boundary-setting, and autonomy. The study underscores the therapeutic potential of approaches addressing the "inner child" to process unresolved losses-summarised as the loss of childhood-and to strengthen self-identity. By deepening understanding of these processes, the findings may inform targeted interventions for young children and adult children of parents with addiction.
Radiative and microphysical forcing on the rapid intensification of tropical cyclone Hato (2017) is examined based on a newly developed global unstructured mesh atmospheric model. The different spatial distribution of solid hydrometeors simulated by two commonly used microphysical schemes (WSM6 and Thompson) induces spatial variance of radiative and microphysical heating within the circulation of the vortex. The production and existence of cloud ice in the outer cloudy area outside an eyewall-like semicircle convective rainband mitigate the upward long-wave radiation at the middle troposphere, destabilizing the air parcels with the aid of latent heating released from depositional growth and contributing to the enhancement of the direct transverse circulation. Due to such positive feedback, the simulated Hato from WSM6 undergoes a rapid intensification accompanied by an axisymmetrization process. However, abundant snow at the middle-to-high layer throughout the circulation of the vortex at the expense of cloud ice results in a stable stratification in the outer region of the primary rainband, inhibiting the continuous inward transportation of energy to the main-core area in THOM (a partial double-moment bulk microphysical scheme). Combined with the effect of mass loading, Hato simulated in THOM obtains limited intensity. Treating snow as cloud ice in THOM ensures that the spatial distribution of heating owing to long-wave radiation and microphysics collaboratively determines the evolution of Hato. Moreover, the sensitivity experiment, which involves adjusting the threshold of cloud ice/snow and the relevant transferring processes in THOM, demonstrates the sensitivity to parameterization of solid hydrometeors. Consistent linkage between the microphysical and radiation schemes remains a challenge but urgently needs to be solved to improve tropical cyclone intensity forecasts.
Background: Entrepreneurial orientation (EO) is a central concept in strategic management research; however empirical evidence on its performance implications remains context dependent. In particular, studies from Central and Eastern Europe are scarce despite the economic significance of small and medium-sized enterprises in the region. Purpose: This study examines the relationship between entrepreneurial orientation and business performance in Hungarian small and medium-sized enterprises. This study also explores whether firm performance and entrepreneurial orientation vary across managerial gender, industry affiliation, and geographic location. Study design/methodology/approach: This research is based on a cross-sectional survey of 415 Hungarian SMEs conducted in 2024. Entrepreneurial orientation was measured using multi-item Likert scales for the three sub-dimensions, while firm performance was assessed through self-reported indicators. Linear regression and chi-square tests were used to analyze the relationships and contextual differences. Findings/conclusions: The findings show a positive relationship between entrepreneurial orientation and firm performance. Innovation and proactivity are strongly associated with performance outcomes, whereas risktaking exhibits a comparatively weaker relationship. Significant differences in entrepreneurial orientation and performance are observed across gender, industry and regional contexts. Limitations/future research: This study contributes to entrepreneurial orientation research by providing evidence from a Central and Eastern European transition economy and reinforcing the multidimensional nature of entrepreneurial orientation. The results highlight the importance of contextual factors in shaping the performance of entrepreneurial behavior.
This paper discusses the perceptions of university students who are mentors in aHungarian mentoring programme, helping primary school pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds, mostly Roma pupils. The paper relies on findings of research on biculturalism in education sciences and on critical mentoring. This study is based on two empirical data collections: an online questionnaire (2022/2023) and an interview study (2024/2025), involving Roma mentors. This study applies the definition of bicultural mentors to university students who are from a similar background and culture to their prot & eacute;g & eacute;s, as opposed to mentors from the majority society (non-Roma students). As universities do not collect data on minority background, we can only estimate that bicultural mentors are over-represented both in the sample and the programme. This may be linked to personal involvement in their community and/or some societal expectations of Roma to serve as role models when returning to their communities. The interviews illustrated the importance of biculturalism and supported and explained the results of the questionnaire. Additionally, applying the perspective of critical mentoring, this paper illustrates the importance of community embeddedness. The findings of this research highlight the benefits of considering mentors' bicultural identities in training and supervision during the mentoring process.
