Improved apparatus for distributing a liquid in film form in the interior of vertical tubes in which a counterflow or cocurrent flow of liquid-vapor takes place. The apparatus includes a cylindrical body having an annular ledge and helical grooves on its peripheral surface, and wherein the cylindrical body is slightly tapered downwardly and inwardly to enable it to be easily introduced into the tube and to enable it to be freely rotated about its own vertical central axis. In the case of counterflow circulation, the cylindrical body has a blind laterally perforated vent tube on its top surface. In each instance the rotation of the body is effected by the liquid being distributed to inhibit the formation of deposits of solids from the liquid being distributed on the inner wall of the vertical tube.
In this paper we investigate glyph-based visualization techniques for the medical domain. We concentrate on both visualization as well as interaction techniques, developed for providing more valuable glyph representations. By taking into account classification concepts established in the area of information visualization, we build up a glyph taxonomy based on the way information is processed when interpreting glyph visualizations. Thus we classify glyph capabilities in those supporting pre-attentive and those supporting attentive processing. With respect to the introduced taxonomy, we review glyph-based medical visualizations that have been described in literature. Furthermore, derived from the comparison of these techniques and their suitability for performing a desired exploration task, we propose guidelines for the usage of glyphs in medical
In this paper, we present an overview of a number of existing flow visualization methods, developed by the authors in the recent past, that are specifically aimed at integrat-ing and leveraging domain-specific knowledge into the visualization process. These methods transcend the traditional divide between interactive exploration and feature-based schemes and allow a visualization user to benefit from the abstraction properties of feature extraction and topological methods while retaining intuitive and interactive control over the visual analysis process, as we demonstrate on a number of examples.
Processes for the production of aminated sulfurized olefins are improved by performing the reaction in the presence of a tar and charred reaction byproduct reducing amount of an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal compound.
Muramyldipeptide derivatives of the formula (I): (I) wherein X represents an amino acid residue such as of L-alanine, L-serine, L-valine, glycine, etc., and Y represents a group wherein R1 represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group of 1 to 6 carbon atoms, a carboxamide group or a carboxyl group, n represents an integer of 1 to 6, A represents a straight or branched chain, saturated or unsaturated aliphatic hydrocarbon residue of 7 to 30 carbon atoms, and "Acyl" means an acyl group of an aliphatic carboxylic acid having 2 to 6 carbon atoms. These compounds have excellent adjuvant activity and/or prophylactic and therapeutic effects against microbial infections.
In our work we examine a high-dimensional, massive flow data set around an airfoil using a topology-based vortex analysis. The 3D time-dependent flow depends on two additional parameters which are introduced by an active flow control technique aiming at increasing the lift by periodic blowing and suction. In particular, we study the influence of the actuation parameters frequency and intensity of air injection and show how our vortex analysis helps in understanding the underlying physics.
We present a method that flattens a curved surface and its neighborhood to create effective, uncluttered visualizations by applying standard flow visualization techniques in the deformed space. Level sets of the distance from the curved surface are mapped to parallel planes. Data fields are mapped accordingly. Our method eases the visual inspection and analysis of a curved surface’s vicinity by providing a flat space that supports the creation of standardized views. This is particularly useful for visualizing flow fields in the boundary layer.
