
This paper summarizes data on findings of the genus Tibellus Simon, 1875 in Kazakhstan and Middle Asia. Distribution maps are presented, compiled on the basis of both original and literature-derived data. Tibellus macellus Simon, 1875 is recorded from Kyrgyzstan for the first time. Considering the upgraded descriptive standards for monstrilloid copepods published by Grygier & Ohtsuka [1995], the type specimens of Mexican species were re-examined and redescribed. This study includes the redescription of three Mexican species of Cymbasoma Thompson, 1888, currently known as the most diverse genus of the copepod order Monstrilloida. The redescriptions were prepared following currently used standards, particularly in reference to the setal armature of the antennules and details of the cephalothorax integumental ornamentation. This revision reveals previously unnoticed characters; new comparisons of these species with recently described taxa are also provided.
Here we present the first data on crustacean remains in Holocene sediments of Lake Pechevalavato (Yamal Peninsula, Western Siberia). An investigated outcrop was formed as a result of thermal abrasion of deposits located at the second marine terrace. From this outcrop, 48 samples were collected for paleolimnological analysis; crustacean remains were found in nine samples. In total, 34 ephippia, a fragment of thoracic limb filter plate and 45 mandibles were analyzed. Based on details of morphology, 20 ephippia were classified as belonging to Daphnia pulex-type, 14 ephippia - to D. longispina-type. A filter plate was found in the upper layer together with Daphnia ephippia and presumably belongs to this genus. Based on shape and size, all found mandibles belonged to notostracan Lepidurus arcticus (Pallas, 1793). According to our data, the outcrop point became to be a part of a lake (most probably, Lake Pechevalavato or a separate lake near it) c.a. 5.5-6 kya, before this time it was a terrestrial or swampy territory. Then the lake surface and depth were reduced for some reasons unknown to us. Fauna of this lake was poorer as compared to previously described Holocene water bodies of Yamal. We have demonstrated that different types of water bodies existed in the central part of Yamal Peninsula during the Holocene. New data on the spider fauna of northeastern Yakutia, Russia, are presented based on material collected from the Orulgan Mountain Range (Eveno-Bytantaysky District), an area previously lacking arachnological records. A total of 11 species from five families are reported, with annotations on their distribution and habitat preferences. Among the most notable findings, Alopecosa borea (Kulczy & nacute;ski, 1908) stat.n., a former subspecies of A. solivaga (Kulczy & nacute;ski, 1901), is elevated to species rank based on clear divergence in CO1 sequences and phylogenetic placement, despite minimal morphological differences from A. solivaga. The male of A. borea is described and illustrated for the first time, and the female is redescribed. Additionally, the taxonomic status of Pardosa groenlandica (Thorell, 1872) in northeastern Asia is discussed: specimens from Yakutia differ from Greenlandic representatives in the shape of the epigyne and lack of carapace pattern, suggesting that the Siberian population may represent a separate species. Other records include Aculepeira carbonarioides (Keyserling, 1892), Gnaphosa borea Kulczy & nacute;ski, 1908, Pardosa algens (Kulczy & nacute;ski, 1908), P. sodalis Holm, 1970, P. tesquorum (Odenwall, 1901), Rhysodromus alascensis (Keyserling, 1884), and Xysticus emertoni Keyserling, 1880, several of which are reported for the first time from the studied grid square. Pardosa lyrata is reported from northeastern Yakutia for the first time. Observations ofAraniella displicata (Hentz, 1847) and R. alascensis on naleds (river icings) provide evidence of ballooning in adults.
A novel buthid scorpion of the genus Janalychas Kova & rcaron;ik, 2019 is described from the Amrabad Tiger Reserve, Telangana, based on an integrative approach combining morphological and molecular data for South Asian representatives. Morphologically, the new species is most similar to J. farkasi (Kova & rcaron;ik, 1997) from Nepal, but can be distinguished by the presence of a single carina on the mesosomal tergites (vs. three in J. farkasi) and the presence of denticles on sternite V. It can also be readily differentiated from its Indian congeners by a unique combination of morphological traits and its characteristic yellow, patterned coloration.
The incomplete description of certain significant taxonomic features involving Cryptops (Trigonocryptops) similis Machado, 1953 has recently raised reasonable doubts regarding the subgeneric status of this elusive Iberian endemic. Based on a single specimen from M & aacute;laga Province, the subgeneric diagnostic characteristics of C. similis have been reevaluated and found to align well with the recently renewed diagnostic criteria of the Trigonocryptops Verhoeff, 1906 subgenus. Moreover, the present study provides the fifth record of this taxon, exposes its easternmost known locality, and includes the first photographs of the species.
New faunistic records of 27 species of linyphiid spiders from the Adygea Republic and Krasnodar Krai, northern Caucasus, Russia are given. Diagnostic characters of Tenuiphantes perseus (van Helsdingen, 1977) and T. mengei (Kulczy & nacute;ski, 1887), two particularly similar congeners, are discussed. The fauna of the Caucasus comprises both T. mengei and T. perseus, as well as their presumable hybrids. The sole record of Walckenaeria incisa (O. Pickard-Cambridge, 1871) from the Caucasus is considered erroneous, actually concerning W. cuspidata Blackwall, 1833. Ceratinella wideri (Thorell, 1871), W. cuspidata and W. obtusa Blackwall, 1836 are new to the fauna of the Caucasus.
Results are presented of a taxonomic treatment of some Diplopoda collected recently in southern Vietnam. These concern eight species from eight genera, five families and four orders, including Rhopalomeris tenebris sp.n. (Glomeridae, Glomerida), Atopochetus vietnamicus sp.n. (Pachybolidae, Spirobolida), and Annamina spinigera sp.n. (Paradoxosomatidae, Polydesmida). The status of varieties is returned to the following formal subspecies: Orthomorpha scabra grandis Likhitrakarn, Golovatch, Semenyuk, Efeykin et Panha, 2019 = O. scabra var. grandis Likhitrakarn, Golovatch, Semenyuk, Efeykin et Panha, 2019, and O. rotundicollis subrotundicollis Likhitrakarn, Golovatch, Semenyuk, Efeykin et Panha, 2019 = O. rotundicollis var. subrotundicollis Likhitrakarn, Golovatch, Semenyuk, Efeykin et Panha, 2019, both syn.n. New faunistic information is provided, allowing for the distribution of several milto be refined.
A new species of the potamid crab genus Eosamon Yeo et Ng, 2007 (Crustacea: Decapoda: Potamidae), Eosamon baynuiensis sp.n., is described from Bay N & uacute;i (10 degrees 29 ' N 104 degrees 59 ' E), a range of small mountainous hills located in the Tri T & ocirc;n and Tinh Bi & ecirc;n districts of An Giang Province, southern Vietnam. The new species morphologically closely resembles two other Eosamon species known from southern Vietnam, Eosamon brousmichei (Rathbun, 1904) and Eosamon nominathuis Yeo, 2010, but can be distinguished by the shape and proportions of the carapace and terminal segment of G1. Since these crabs live on mountainous hills that are currently isolated within the delta and were once "islands" when sea level was higher, we see the evolution of these species as an example of allopatric (island) speciation. The detailed taxonomy of all described representatives of the genus Eosamon from southern Vietnam is discussed in the article.
Based on both morphological and molecular data, the genus Carinostoma Kratochv & iacute;l, 1958 is recorded for the first time from Turkey. Detailed illustrations of the dorsal body structure, chelicera, and pedipalp are provided. Additionally, an 835 bp fragment of the 28S rRNA gene was sequenced. The systematic position of the species and its genus within the family Nemastomatidae was determined based on Maximum Likelihood (ML) and Bayesian (BEAST) analyses.
An undescribed species of the genus Phyllognathopus Mr & aacute;zek, 1893 was discovered during a survey of harpacticoid copepods from the hyporheic zone of the Suoi Da Stream and Cu De River in central Vietnam. The new species, Phyllognathopus danangensis sp.n., is morphologically similar to P. viguieri (Maupas, 1892), but can be distinguished from P. viguieri by: i) the absence of a proximal surface seta on the coxa of the maxillule; ii) the long pinnate posterolateral caudal seta (III); iii) the non-transformed inner terminal caudal seta (V); iv) the subapical insertion of the outermost seta on the exopod of P5 of the female. It also differs from other congeners, such as P. paludosus, P. volcanicus, P. paracamptoides, and P. vietnamensis, by a smooth anal operculum, three-segmented exopod of P4, and equal length of exopodal lobe and baseoendopod of P5.
Two new solifuge species of the subgenus Gylippus (Paragylippus) Roewer, 1933, Gylippus (Paragylippus) dunlopi sp.n. and Gylippus (Paragylip-pus) kunti sp.n. are described and illustrated based on both sexes from western Turkey. Two new species of terrestrial isopods from the family Agnaridae are described: Lucasioides lekarevi sp.n. from the Issyk-Kul Region, eastern Kyrgyzstan, and L. temerevae sp.n. from the Surxondaryo Region, southern Uzbekistan. These are among the westernmost locations for the genus. The diagnostic characters of the new species, as well as their affinities within the genus, are provided and discussed.
A brief review of the sapporensis species subgroup of Clubiona Latreille, 1804 is provided. In addition to the seven already known species, a new species, Clubiona temerevae sp.n. Males of three species of the genus Nannocalanus Sars, 1925 could be identified by the location of integumental pores on the abdomen. Males of two species from the northern Indian Ocean, Nannocalanus major Sewell, 1929 and N. sewelli Kazus, 2009, differ in the location of pores on the first and second segments of the abdomen. At the same time, both of them clearly differ from N. minor (Claus, 1863) from the Mediterranean Sea, which is the type species of this genus. The distinguishing feature for the former two species is one pair of pores on the dorsal side in the middle part of the second, third and fourth segments of the abdomen, which is missing in N. minor.
Two new species of woodlice belonging to the family Trachelipodidae, Trachelipus sulphuri cus sp.n. and T. tshetshenicus sp.n. both from the Chechen Republic (northern Caucasus, Russia) are described. Diagnostic features of these species as well as affinities within the genus Trachelipus Budde-Lund, 1908 based on molecular markers COI mtDNA gene are provided (DNA barcoding).
The millipede fauna of the Samur Forest National Park, southeastern Dagestan, Caucasus, presently contains some 10 species and genera, altogether representing seven families and six orders. Pitfall trapping performed in various habitats from early April to late June demonstrates that two julid species are the most widespread and abundant there: the dominant Omobrachyiulus caucasicus (Karsch, 1881) and the subdominantRossiulus kessleri (Lohmander, 1927). The relative poverty of the diplopod fauna of the Samur Forest in comparison with the lists of the western and central Caucasus could be accounted for by the low precipitation rate typical of the semi-desert belt, periodically resulting in litter drought. This humidity deficit fails to be compensated for even by the intense sub-surface ground water drain characteristic of the Samur Forest. Zoogeographically, its fauna is totally devoid of narrowly endemic diplopod species, being generally characterized instead as an impoverished variant of the Caucasian realm fauna and barely tied to the geographically nearest Hyrcanian biogeographic province with its rich and highly endemic diplopod fauna.
Two species of Cryphoeca Thorell, 1870 are reported from the Caucasus, one of which is described as new: viz., C. alexeevi sp.n. (?, North Ossetia). The female of C. thaleri Wunderlich, 1995 is described for the first time, and the occurrence of this species in the Caucasus is confirmed. The genus Cryphoeca has been recorded from Georgia for the first time.
This work presents new data on population genetics structure of two species from Daphnia pulex sensu lato species group [D. pulex Leydig, 1860, and D. middendorffiana Fischer, 1851 (Anomopoda: Daphniidae)] from water bodies of Northern Eurasia. Afragment of the noncoding mitochondrial 12S rRNA gene was used to reconstruct phylogenetic relationships between the species, to identify genealogical links between haplotypes, and to evaluate genetic polymorphism of these species and their populations. A preliminary assessment of evolutionary history of these species is provided. We revealed an extremely high genetic diversity within the D. pulex s.lat. group in Northern Eurasia, primarily indicating a hidden species diversity. The magnitude of genetic polymorphism pointed to a mixture of different mitochondrial lineages and possibly species; this finding was most pronounced in the populations from Arctic regions. High genetic diversity of these closely related species in Northern Eurasia reflects paleogeographic events of the Late Pleistocene. Overall, there is an obvious need for a large-scale morphological revision combined with genetic analysis within this group to obtain a clear picture of their species diversity in this vast region in particular and in the Holarctic as a whole.
