
The main aim of the study is to investigate content creation and academic writing with Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI). Also, the study is focused to explore the benefits and challenges that might occur while using AI to write academic content that must align with existing legal and ethical principles and guidelines provided by global organisations. The paper is conceptual and analytical that investigated ethical principles, offered guidelines and real-world problems that occur while using AI to create content. It involved detailed literature review of existing research work and available guidelines associated with ethical and responsible use of AI, performed to know about possible concerns related to the use of GenAI in writing and best ways to incorporate it in the work. The study revealed key concerns including inaccuracy, misleading information, unintentional biases, privacy, transparency, IPR compliance, fairness and others. It was noted that if the information has poor quality, false citations, hallucinated and biased data, all these carry a reader to lack of trust and authenticity issues. Apart from all the challenges and problems, the need to have human oversight was emphasized to maintain the accuracy and relevance of the content.
In today's world, adopting advanced research utility tools (ARUTs) for information access are essential for every research scholar to maximize digital innovation in their research work and academic field or other research domains. Now a day's researchers are recognized the power of these research utility tools in maximizing their capabilities and effectively addressing complex issues. This study explores various research utility tools, focusing on their practical applications and research scholars' perceptions of these tools, ultimately leading to the development of even more effective research tools for their benefit. This study investigated among research scholars from seven well-known Central Universities of North India who have vast experience in research utility tools. The researchers shared a structured questionnaire administrated via an online survey link on WhatsApp and email to collect data from 210 research scholars from January 15, 2026 to January 30, 2026. The descriptive statistical analysis showed a strong correlation between performance expectancy and behavioral intention (r = 0.71, p < .01), as similar facilitating conditions (r = 0.67, p < .01), effort expectancy (r = 0.64, p < .01), and social influence (r = 0.52, p < .01). These results clearly demonstrate that perceived usefulness, ease of use, social influence, and institutional support play a significant role in adoption of research utility tools in universities. The results of multiple regression analysis confirmed that performance expectancy (beta = 0.45, p < .001) is the strongest predictor of behavioral intention to use research utility tools. Accordingly, effort expectancy (beta = 0.29, p < .001), facilitating conditions (beta = 0.26, p < .001), social influence (beta = 0.21, p < .001) and this model explains (68%) of the variance in behavioral intentions (R & sup2; = 0.68), indicating the model's high explanatory power (F = 108.72, p < .001).
Environmental research plays a central role in addressing global challenges such as climate change, pollution and ecosystem degradation. However, the visibility and interoperability of scientific publications from the Global South, particularly Morocco, remain limited due to absence of dedicated dispositive and open repositories, along with the insufficient adoption of international standards. This study applies Semantic Web and Linked Data technologies to improve the discoverability and reuse of Moroccan environmental publications. A methodological framework was developed combining a literature review, a comparative study of semantic web tools (Prot & eacute;g & eacute;, VocBench, RDFlib, RMLMapper, Open Refine, Apache Jena Fuseki, GraphDB and Virtuoso), and an experimental implementation on a corpus of 27 open access articles. The proof of concept generated an RDF knowledge graph comprising 1120 triples. This structure supported advanced SPARQL queries and demonstrated improvements in resource discoverability, semantic interconnection and metadata enrichment. The corpus analysis showed complete metadata coverage, with all records including DOIs, publication years and institutional affiliations. It revealed a sparse but structured graph (density= 0.007), where research outputs were largely oriented toward climate change (85%) and water-related topics (52%). The results highlight the feasibility of lightweight, open-source solutions as the proof of concept was achieved with modest resources and standard open-source tools, yet still delivered metadata enrichment and advanced querying. The findings also emphasize the strategic importance of developing national ontologies, dedicated triple stores, and infrastructures aligned with FAIR principles. This approach provides a transferable model for Southern countries aiming to improve the international visibility of their scientific production.
Academic libraries are at the centre of the academic excellent of higher institutions providing relevant information services and resources required for teaching, learning and research functions. This paper discusses the critical role of academic libraries in supporting the United Nations sustainable development goals (SDGs) in Nigerian. The results demonstrate that academic libraries are key drivers of sustainable development due to their ability to provide fair access to information that facilitates education, reduction of poverty, health, and gender equality. The research notes that academic librarians have a positive overall awareness and knowledge regarding the SDGs, especially the ability to align academic library services with the goals such as quality education (SDG 4), poverty eradication (SDG 1), good health and well-being (SDG 3), and gender equality (SDG 5). Nevertheless, the results also indicate low profile of the contribution of academic libraries in certain aspects like collaboration, social media lobbying, and direct interactions with the social issues. The key challenges that have been identified are lack of funding, inadequate ICT infrastructure, institutional policies connecting libraries to the SDGs, weak university engagements, and low collaborations with national and international stakeholders. The study suggests that more funding by the government and institutions, policy changes and building capacity will help to improve the strategic functions of academic libraries that will enable the academic libraries in Nigeria to be better players in facilitating inclusive and sustainable development.
This research examines structural relationship between information filtering, information overload and user satisfaction in the context of digital library environments. Even though information filtering typically assumed to decrease cognitive burden, very little empirical evidence explained how information filtering mechanisms affects evaluative cognition and satisfaction in information intensive academic systems. The survey data was analysed using the Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM) approach, with 390 active digital library users' respondents. The results show that information filtering has a positive and significant effect on perceived information overload (beta = 0.236, p < 0.001), suggesting that access to information resources that are rich with information relevance can increase evaluative cognitive demands in digital information interaction. Significantly also, Perceived information overload was related to user satisfaction (beta = 0.158, p = 0.003), indicating that as perceived information overload increases, user satisfaction with digital library use might also increase. It is a constructive evaluative state resulting from environments in which people retrieve information that are relevance-intensive and not just a negative cognitive state, which is what people have been thinking of perceived information overload up until now. Besides, mediation analysis which shows that perceived information overload completely mediated the relationship between information filtering and user satisfaction, and the direct relationship between information filtering and user satisfaction was not statistically valid (beta=0.091, p>0.05). The findings have implications for digital library scholarship, showing how evaluative cognitive engagement can be an important explanatory mechanism of the linkage between information filtering processes and user satisfaction in today's digital knowledge environments.
This study analyses undergraduates' preferences for print and electronic books at the Main Library of the University of Colombo. Despite a substantial collection of print and electronic resources, there remains a significant shortage of e-books, indicating a discrepancy in format availability. The study examines whether undergraduates are prepared to adopt e-books in response to the global shift towards digital resources. It also examines how preferences vary across demographic and academic factors. The study population comprised 9,684 undergraduates, and a sample of 370 was selected using Krejcie and Morgan's sampling table. Structured questionnaires were used to collect data from the study sample. Only 262 students responded to the survey, resulting in a 71% response rate. The data were analysed using descriptive statistics in Microsoft Excel. According to the findings, undergraduates prefer both print and e-book formats as recommended textbooks. In terms of gender, female undergraduates tend to choose the print format for recommended textbooks, whereas male undergraduates prefer the e-book format. The print format is most preferred by Arts undergraduates and is used more frequently. Juniors prefer the print format of the textbook and rarely use e-books. It is recommended that the library consider buying more ebooks on a half-and-half basis and utilise the library space for student learning. Increasing the library's e-book collection would support the university's online learning platforms.
Background/Purpose: Given the phenomenal omnipresence on AI across various functions and process, a study was conducted to check if AI platforms are transforming/affecting academic practices. For the study, respondents' usage patterns of e-resources and print resources was examined given the AI backdrop. Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), and Information Seeking Behavior (ISB) theory are used to theorize the perceived effectiveness and easy to use influence the adoption of technology. Methods: A survey was conducted using a structured questionnaire and was administered to 186 faculty members from an engineering college located in rural precincts of Andhra Pradesh. The survey covered satisfaction levels using libraries, attitudes/perceptions towards AI complementarity against substitution. Descriptive statistics and chi-square tests are used for analysis. Key Results: Findings show that there is high usage for printed material (88.17%) for teaching purpose and reasonably high usage for e-journals (73.65%) for research purpose and knowledge acquisition. 94% expressed satisfaction with library resources while perceived shortages in archival materials that drive AI reliance exists. Chi-square analysis displayed significant relations between age and AI preference (chi 2=12.61, p=0.002). Conclusions/Implications: Libraries continue to remain an essential hub for academic pursuits, by complementing AI's efficiency. AI literacy workshops needed to bridge gaps. Originality/Value: This study provides empirical data from a rural Indian context and it is was carried out by the authors in person. The study gains value as it contributes to global discourse on sustainable academic resource integration wherein technology acceptance model was integrated with AI-library dynamics.
This paper presents the open access status of Indian Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in the Book Citation Index (BKCI). In 2011, Thomson-Reuters introduced the BKCI as a part of the Science Citation Index for books, chapters, editorial books, etc. It examined the open access status, citations, and altmetric attention score of Indian higher education institutions. The data carpentry tool OpenRefine was employed to extract OA status, citation value and altmetric attention score with a REST API call through a data wrangling process. This study examined a total of 501 books and chapters, 2,229 authors, 8,920 citations and an altmetric attention score of 1013.66. The results showed that DOI publications accounted for only 5.56% (n=26) of the books and chapters published across four OA routes. Green OA is dominant OA (accounting for 16 books and chapters). The Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur is the highest productive institution in BKCI.
The current research examined the top 100 Library and Information Studies (LIS) articles to assess their altmetric and citation-based impact. The srudy selected Library and Information Studies as the research category from Dimensions.ai database for data collection. The results were refined by limiting the publication period to 2015-2024 and restricting the publication type to articles. From this dataset, the top 100 articles with the highest Altmetric Attention Scores (AAS) were chosen for detailed analysis. The researchers used Open Refine to clean and process the data, while Microsoft Excel enabled them to create tables and charts and conduct correlation analysis. The study results show that X (formerly Twitter) served as the primary social media platform to which users linked their AAS scores. Furthermore, AAS showed a very strong positive correlation with X (r = 0.97) and Bluesky (r = 0.81). The year-by-year analysis shows that 2018 produced the highest output, which resulted in 18 articles entering the top 100 list. However, AAS demonstrated only weak correlations with traditional scholarly impact indicators, including Dimensions citations, Relative Citation Ratio (RCR), and Field Citation Ratio (FCR).
The study examines the emerging landscape of artificial intelligence (AI) tools usage guidelines in scholarly publishing. It focuses on structure and gaps in existing policy frameworks through the analysis of twenty policy documents from academic publishers, research societies, open-access platforms, and universities. An integrated computational text analysis approach is used, including topic modeling, sentiment analysis, TF-IDF lexical analysis, and co-occurrence network analysis. The results indicate a pattern of structural convergence across publishers; however, this convergence is superficial and not seen in enforcement-oriented elements such as prohibition sections. The policy discourse is predominantly found in a neutralpositive tone. The discourse is conceptually rooted in legal and ethical terms, including authorship, privacy, and copyright. The thematic integration is limited, and a fragmented policy design is reflected in the documents. The study lays emphasis on data-driven, computational mapping of AI tools usage guidelines and policies in scholarly publishing. The current approaches reflect gradual institutional adaptation rather than coherent regulatory design.
This study examines the ethical publication practices and open-access policies of major research funding agencies in India, basically focused on government sector agencies. The results analyse the top funding agencies for the year 2023-2024, revealing that the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), and Department of Science and Technology (DST) are the leading agencies by funding allocation. The findings indicates that only 13% of the agencies adopted open access policies, and 6% mandating green open access. In addition to that, 70% of agencies allowed the uploading of funded research to institutional repositories, while only a few provide clear gold open-access options. The study also examines the ethical guidelines of these funding agencies. All agencies require acknowledgment of funding, and an emphasis on anti-plagiarism rules is noted among 80% of them. The results indicate a need for more uniform and robust ethical standards across funding agencies, particularly in comparison to international counterparts, to enhance research integrity and access to knowledge. This study offers information to scholars and organizations to raise the standard of research in India using open access and ethical standards.
This article presents a comprehensive analysis of annual library expenditure among colleges in India ranked by the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF). It evaluates the number of enrolled students, calculates the average per-student library expenditure, and examines the proportion of capital investment dedicated by colleges to library resources. Special attention is given to institutions with consistently ranked colleges. The authors have also done an exploration of the correlation between library expenditure and ranking performance. The study uncovers significant disparities in resource allocation across top colleges. Driven by data, the authors suggest optimal benchmarks for annual library expenditure: either Indian Rupee300 per student or 10% of annual capital expenditure, whichever amount is higher. A change in the formula of NIRF regarding the library expenditure is essential to ensure that institutions achieving top national ranking positions meet the minimum fiscal responsibility of adequate library resource allocation. These insights inform policy-makers and drive improvements in the quality of library resources, with the potential to positively impact higher education nationwide.
This paper is an attempt to map library related issues raised in both houses of Indian Parliament. Parliament Questions and Answers (Q&As) are downloaded from Digital Sansad web portal (both Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha) using the word "Library" occurs on the title of Q&As. The paper analyses year wise, session wise number of Q&As and the type of questions asked in the both houses of Indian Parliament. It further uses topic modelling tool for word frequency analysis to find the most frequently occurring key words, sentiments of words, major themes and historical evolution of library related issues in the Parliament. The study has observed almost similar trends in number of questions asked. The sentiment analysis shows the 'positive' is the most prominent type of sentiment. The LDA topic model extracted 10 latent thematic clusters. The topics shows that the debates are strongly oriented toward institutional growth, governance, funding, and modernization of libraries in India. Time-based thematic analysis is done using a gap of twenty-year period. In time-based thematic grouping there are consistent theme on public & national libraries. This indicated that these institutes were always highlighted in the parliament discourse. However, there are four types of shifts occurred during the period. First is the evolution of 'Library' concept second is the 'Personnel', third is the 'Technology' and fourth focus is more 'National' themes, for example, 'national mission'. This study will be useful for researcher, historian of libraries, and also for policy and decision makers.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) literacy means the ability to understand and utilize AI consciously. This paper aims to measure the artificial intelligence (AI) literacy of library professionals from universities in Bangladesh. In this study, a quantitative method was used with a cross-sectional survey design. Here, a total of 225 data were collected from library professionals who work in different public and private universities in Bangladesh. For the data collection, a structured questionnaire was distributed through Google Forms randomly. The data reliability was tested using Cronbach's alpha, which was found to be acceptable. The results showed that the professionals have a medium level of AI literacy because of inadequate formal training and technical expertise. It was also found that they prefer strongly AI-related workshops and training for their organization's development. The study conations a comprehensive information about the current conditions of AI understanding of university library professionals in Bangladesh. It also provides suggestions for the development of policy and sustainable AI integration in academic libraries.
This study explores how doctoral research in Library and Information Science (LIS) has evolved in West Bengal over the past four decades. The study analyses 341 PhD theses awarded by universities in West Bengal offering a PhD program in Library Science between 1983 and 2023. The study uses an extensive survey method to collect the bibliographic entries of doctoral dissertations. Citations are obtained either directly from the university libraries or downloaded from the Sodhganaga Repository. The study outlines the growth trends, institutional contributions, gender participation, supervision practices, research themes, language use, and citation patterns, using simple bibliometric and descriptive techniques. The results revealed that after 2010, the University of Calcutta and Jadavpur University played leading roles in Library and Information Science Research. Most research outputs are written in English language, followed by Bengali. Bibliometrics and information behaviour are found to be the most widely researched topics. Although the study highlights the growing academic strength and maturity in Library and Information Science research, it also found some gender imbalances and uneven research practices across the surveyed universities, which highlights the need for more inclusive and balanced growth in the future.
This study aims to represent a bibliometric analysis of the journal Annals of Library and Information Studies (ALIS) from 2015 to 2024. During this study period, a total of 324 articles, contributed by 617 authors, were published across 10 volumes and 40 issues. On average, 32 articles are published every year. The paper analyses authorship patterns and finds a high percentage of double-authored papers. We also calculated authorship measures regarding the Collaborative Index (CI) and Collaborative Coefficient (CC). This study also analyses inter-institution, inter-gender, RGR, and DT. The paper applies Lotka's law for author productivity.
Colon Classification (CC), developed by Dr. S. R. Ranganathan, was one of the underrated classification systems, which seems to be on the brink of death. It is still being adopted and followed by some of the significant academic and public libraries in India and abroad. Even though being positioned in the top classification list, the complexity of the Colon Classification's Mixed notation makes it difficult for the New Libraries to adopt the Colon Classification as their Classification system. Due to the complexity of the mixed notations, CC really needs a qualified, experienced Library patron to arrange the shelves. Even the Patrons found it challenging to locate the books compared to other classification systems. To address this issue, the paper introduces the "CC Sorter," which will provide an efficient mechanism and workflow for arranging books on shelves and may be considered a 21st-century revival of the Colon Classification. It overcomes errors in shelving and book identification, enhancing the overall experience for both library staff and patrons.
This study examines the relationship between copyright law and Open Access (OA) in Indian academia, focusing on researchers' awareness of copyright provisions, open licensing, and rights transfer agreements. The research employed an online survey with 60 PhD and postdoctoral students, as well as faculty interviews, at an Institute of National Importance in Eastern India. While the Indian Copyright Act, 1957, initially grants authors ownership of their works, publishing contracts often transfer economic rights to publishers. The study reveals that 70.15% of researchers were unable to distinguish between moral and economic rights, while 73.13% were unaware of fair dealing provisions. Additionally, 70.1% prioritised journal impact factor over open access policies while selecting publication venues. These trends suggest the overdependence on prestige metrics and uneven institutional support for rights retention. The study recommends the adoption of rights retention strategies for publicly funded research and copyright and OA training for researchers.
The revolutionised shift of academic publishing from traditional to modern has encouraged free access to publications. Open Access plays a significant role in facilitating barrier-free intellectual exchange and educational diversity. To ensure free access, websites and online platforms were utilised. This study examines the discoverability, accessibility and performance of open-access Library and Information science (LIS) journals. These aspects for open-access publications are essential for promoting free access and improving research distribution. At present, websites are the primary source of dissemination of information. LIS journal websites also play a crucial role in ensuring the availability of the journal's content. This study evaluates the websites of the LIS journals to assess their findability, accessibility and performance. The Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) were used as the data source. All the LIS journals indexed in DOAJ have been extracted and analysed. All the data were tabulated in the Google sheet in an understandable format. We check the journals' websites by simple Google search, and the working websites are archived in the Google sheet for further analysis. The study administered webometric analysis using the webometric tool 'Google PageSpeed Insights'. This tool provides findability (SEO-Search Engine Optimization), accessibility, performance, and best practices for websites on both mobile and desktop. The study showed many LIS Open-Access journals have findability and accessibility challenges. SEO practices, accessible rich Internet Applications, structured data text alternatives, and metadata contribute to effective and better discoverability and usability. This study is limited to the LIS open-access journals in DOAJ. Additionally, webometric research is limited in its findability, accessibility and performance. This study highlights the current status of OA LIS journals and provides value for the need for accessibility standards, SEO practices, Comprehensive indexing, and integration with emerging technologies. The study's findings shed light on OA journals' online presence and usability, contributing to a more diverse scholarly environment.
Documentation of traditional knowledge (TK) has been given due importance internationally in the context of preservation and protection of one's rights. Global discussions also focus on integrating multiple knowledge systems for nurturing and stimulating innovations in the context of sustainable use and conservation of natural resources. The article provides a glimpse of the efforts being pursued by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), India for enhancing the scope of the Traditional Knowledge Digital Library (TKDL) by way of including India's traditional agriculture information in the database. The vital factors for TK documentation include global initiatives on TK, information on traditional agriculture, patenting trends and innovation areas, data structure and ontology, among others. The article also highlights the synergy that can be drawn by bringing together TK, digital frameworks and sustainability science to address global challenges. Digital databases such as the TKDL can serve as important instruments towards the pursuit of sustainability science.
