ABSTRACT: In Honduras, a lack of mental health providers and the difficult terrain limit access to mental health care. During a week-long healthcare mission clinic, nurse practitioners provided Scriptures and a 5-minute mindfulness-based stress reduction intervention to participants who had scored 5 or above (suggesting moderate to high stress) on the Stress Visual Numeric Scale. Spontaneous patient feedback indicated the intervention was helpful. The descriptive survey findings indicate high self-reported stress levels among participants and that stress screening and intervention can be implemented efficiently within a healthcare mission clinic setting.
ABSTRACT:Newly graduated nurses encounter and may battle their human limitations as they begin their professional nursing careers. Human limitations, also known as human finitude, can be viewed as a liability, even though limitations are part of God's good design of humanity. Individual and organizational failures to support human finitude can contribute to the burnout and attrition of new nurses. This can exacerbate nursing shortages and contribute to inadequate patient care. Helping newly graduated nurses to understand, navigate, and honor a biblical perspective on finitude can reduce nurse burnout and attrition, with positive results for individual nurses and healthcare organizations.
