
The purpose of this paper is to develop a management perspective on the influence of crosscultural management (CCM) and organizational change (OC) as an inorganic growth strategy in the processes of mergers and acquisitions (M&A). It is common practice for companies to expand internationally based on inorganic growth strategies, for which mergers and acquisitions are of great significance. However, the results of these processes have not been successful.
In traffic increasing environment in Europe new solutions have to be developed in order to resolve the problems that are occurring, i.e. shortage of airspace capacity, low flight efficiency, high ATFM delay and consequently high air transport cost. One of many solutions is the possible implementation of Free Route Airspace. As there is already implemented Free Route Airspace in countries on the outer borders of Europe this paper presents the possible implementation of Free Route Airspace in Croatia. The scope of this paper is to reduce the impact of existing airspace structures on operators, i.e. possible improvements by the introduction of Free Route Airspace in Croatia.
With new technology of CMYKIR separation we create double space in design of postage stamp. The procedure is to connect the two images, visual and Infra information. Theme is divided to motif and its hidden context. Purpose of camouflage, double information is discussed and analyzed on small dimensions of postage stamp. New phases are defined in preparation of graphics for new methods of separation channels of graphics to obtain effect of infrared hidden images in visible picture. We introduce new technology of scanning in ultraviolet and infrared selections: 570, 715, and 850 nanometers. At the same time ultraviolet colorants are set with the migration from yellow to brown. Scanning is conducted with the barrier of UV 254 nm. With these methods of scanning we extend the tools for authenticating postage stamp as security paper. Two independent informations on a stamp are planned as graphical and printing solution with a goal of extending the quality of printing process and development of new security inks.
A colorant control method is set herewith targeted at obtaining the desired light absorption in three spectrum areas: the ultraviolet, visual and the infrared. Two graphics are used. The A graphic is visible in the visual spectrum only. The B graphic has two states (F and Z) that are visible in the ultraviolet (UV), and the infrared (IR) spectrum, under condition that the graphic is not visible in the visual spectrum. All the states in the graphics are brought into coordination with the CMYFIR (cyan, magenta, yellow, fluorescent and infrared) algorithm, so that they form a unique system in security printing. The UV colorant has been designed having several specific characteristics. Firstly, the color migration from the VS into the UV has been made possible, and a completely new color appears in the UV spectrum. When UV light is focused on graphic F, the brown color transits into a green that is visible in the VS as a new color. Secondly, it is possible for this same color to migrate from the VS to the IR, and in graphic B into state Z detectable with an IR camera.
The primary task of any higher education system is producing competent, well-educated graduates, who are essential for social and economic development, as well as raising successive generations of scientists who will enhance the mankind's range of insights through their work. Since knowledge is at the focus of interest at higher education institutions, it can be safely concluded that they have to be oriented towards knowledge management by their very nature. The basic aim of this paper is to establish how Croatian polytechnic students assess the knowledge and competencies acquired during their studies. The paper therefore puts special emphasis on the assessment of knowledge transfer process, although the questionnaire also covered some general questions regarding the functioning of polytechnics. Since it is essential for higher education institutions to be recognizable, competitive and adaptable to the labour market needs, we tried to find out how far the Croatian polytechnics have fulfilled students' expectations, i.e. how efficiently they perform their functions. The research included students at six polytechnics. The most important role in the paper is given to the cluster analysis. The results indicate that students are not sufficiently satisfied with the acquired knowledge and skills, conditions for studying and generally with the role of polytechnics. The conclusions can certainly be of use in formulating future development strategies for the Croatian higher education.
Involving students into real-world projects and real teamwork environment is of the great importance in software engineering education that is sometimes ignored in academic environments. The Bologna Process reforms gave the authors an opportunity for necessary changes in the teaching methodology. Although the real-world projects have generated the topics for degree theses at the authors’ department for years, the reform provoked the student projects to be comprehensively included in the university curriculum. This paper describes the implementation of the real-world projects within the undergraduate course Development of Software Applications and the authors’ four-year experience in teaching that course. The key issues regarding the selection and adaptation of real-world projects have been discussed for different types of student work as well. The organization and the improvements of the course through the years are presented together with course evaluation.
Using relatively new methods of operations researches, DEA (data envelopment analysis), in work are explored the effectiveness of state high mechanical technical school (SHMTS) of Belgrade district within two period: 1994 / 1998. and 2004/2008. The results of these studies can be used to find ways of improving the efficiency of secondary schools. DEA method for inefficient units (schools) identifies exemplary units (schools) that with the entrances / exits at their schools would be effective. By comparing the results for the two above-mentioned periods, it can be concluded that there has been some progress and significant changes in students' achievements in the schools investigated.
In this paper 65 Serbian companies were tested by use of BEX model. Decision to use this model stems from the fact that it is about model developed in our surroundings, and capital markets in the surroundings are much more similar to Serbian capital market than it is the case With developed capital markets. BEX model categorises companies in six groups. Companies classified in the first group are considered world-class companies, while existence of the companies classified in the sixth group is endangered. Testing results show that neither one listed Serbian company is considered world-class company, while according to the results of BEX index 14 companies are considered problematic. Obtained results characterize Serbian capital market as high risk and non-attractive. Nevertheless, BEX model results should be taken for granted, having in mind numerous limits of this model.
In period of last two decades PR have become one of essential elements of every organization that is in deeper relationship of the basic organizational and functional elements of every organization integrated within society are the public relations-PR. The scope of the work is the public relations role in strategic management and it is based on the idea that crisis PR is one of the most important elements for resolving crisis in positive manner. The work presents organisational models and implementation of crisis PR. The public relations system and well positioned crisis PR platform are requirements for normal functioning of every socialy responsible organization. Building up those two are therefore irreplacable.
The city square has traditionally been the focal point of city life and a defining factor in creation of the city's identity. Certain squares kept its appeal through time while others are still tourist attractions although there is no real city life in them or there are no activities that attract people on daily bases. Even recently built squares, with original and creative design, are often lacking people and not fulfilling its role of a gathering place. In this paper authors canvass causal and consequential relations between social sustainability, functional and design potential of city squares in order to single out indicators of social sustainability and excerpt the most important aspects for functional and design potential that result in social sustainability. Research is done through theoretic argumentation and case studies of three recently designed city squares by using the method of analysis and comparative analysis as well as the descriptive method. It is concluded that a good design is not enough for a square to keep being in use continuously through generations. Adaptability and variety of use have proven to be important factors in social sustainability of a square. Well-balanced ratio of square design and functional potential is the key factor for social sustainability accomplishment.
This paper shows the model of supplies management within a concrete manufacturing chain. It gives some theoretical basis for the model developed from the aspect of different real supplies management conditions within the supply chain. It also defines the basic concept of the objectivly oriented approach and the example of the supplies determination in real manufacturing conditions in a Business Manufacturing System (BMS).
Constructivism is a cognitive theory that emphasizes that learners construct new knowledge by rearranging and refining their existing knowledge. Agile :software development methods follows this approach of learning as software is developed in short iterations and agile team incorporated all new knowledge gained through feedbacks from preceeding iterations. Agile software development methods are different from traditional software development methods and therefore, metrics proposed for projects using traditional software development methods are not fit to use in agile software development projects. In this paper, new metrics are proposed that can measure the progress and quality of the Product in agile software development projects. The proposed metrics are also compared with existing agile metrics.
The research presented in this paper present the generalization in solving mechanics (kinematics and dynamics) of manipulators with application of a PC. In that order 4x4 homogenous transformation matrices are used to describe problems of rotation and translation of manipulator links, and parts of MATLAB software - Simulink and Robotics toolbox are used for simulation.
The authors explore the causes of conflicts in the supply chain, as well as ways how to neutralize them. Complex structures, such as supply chain, which includes a large number of partners (suppliers, manufacturers, distibutors, retailers and consumers) is exposed to frequent conflicts. Conflicts between partners are a major obstacle in the realization of supply chain performances. This is the reason for continued research in conflict areas as supply chain management. Each partner is responsible for the success of the entire supply chain. Efficiency and effectiveness of the supply chain as a whole depends on the relationship between the partners. This paper presents the results of research into the causes of conflict between partners in Serbia. Factor-analysis which belongs to the multivariate statistical method, was applied in this research.
The paper on focused on analysis of charismatic leadership, as one of the most important leadership styles within the organizational context. Other leadership styles, directive, servant and participative are briefly explained in order to highlight differences comparing to charismatic style. The very concept of charisma has been defined as well as the most important characteristics of charismatic leadership, with an attempt to answer the question where the leaders' influence comes from. The most relevant factors have been analysed in order to explain the nature of charismatic leadership. Charisma provides distinctiveness in relation to other types of leadership styles and it can have important positive and negative effects on the followers. Final section of the work paper presents findings of the research conducted in order to analyse leadership process characteristics in Serbian enterprises, and provide explanation for domination of autocratic charismatic leadership style.
The recent integration of the University of Belgrade into the Bologna Declaration and adoption of accreditation standards caused many changes: restructuring of study programs, teaching materials, formats of exams etc. In this paper we analyzed whether these changes have had a positive effect on the success of students at the University of Belgrade based on average grades and studying time. Further, we examined the influence of the Bologna Declaration on students that are coming from different regions in Serbia, especially focusing on their studying success. Finally We are suggesting a strategy for presentation of Faculty in order to attract more students and to suggest appropriate study program to them.
Operating of modern industrial and communal systems demands centralized remote supervising, centralized data acquisition and remote control for the purpose of reducing number of human mistakes, time between failure and number of men labor. For this reason there is a labor market growing demand for engineers with knowledge and skills in remote monitoring and control. Engineering students have to learn more about the integration of different technologies like Remote control sensing, Instrumentation, Remote control, Communication systems, Human computer interaction, etc, for solving complex real-world engineering problems. Laboratory work is recognized as an efficient method for engineering students to assimilate knowledge and to develop skills for solving real world problems. The goal of this paper is introduce laboratory project for design, implementation and verification in laboratory condition, by employing Global Positioning System receivers, measurement techniques that are suited to the continuous monitoring and data acquisition. Laboratory project includes the design and the implementation of GPS/GPRS (Global Positioning System/General Packet Radio Service) system for low power data acquisition using MSP430 Texas Instruments microcontroller for monitoring and data acquisition of the heating substation parameters. The system is designed for a temperature and pressure monitoring in heating stations. It contains GPS/GPRS gateway and 8 analog sensor inputs. Proposed acquisition module and the server base station are also suitable for industrial applications, home applications and for other appliances. The proposed measurement procedures, which are different from commercially available measurement units, are based on general-purpose acquisition hardware and processing software, thus guaranteeing the possibility of being easily reconfigured and reprogrammed according to the specific requirements of different possible fields of application and to their future developments. From these reasons described laboratory project is excellent didactic experiment for engineering students to have hands-on experience for the complex real-life engineering problems.
This paper deals with the evaluation of sugarbeet technical quality produced in cultivar micro trials. Cultivars were obtained from domestic and foreign institutes for plants selection. The sugar in the beet which can not be crystallised i.e. molasses sugar was estimated according to different authors. The corresponding molasses sugar amounts, calculated by different formulas based on beet components determined in the routine analysis, were subjected to statistical analysis. The aim of this study was to demonstrate the effect of application different formulas to the estimation of molasses sugar.
This paper deals with the cooperative behaviour of participants in social dilemmas of one-shot Prisoner's dilemma type. The aim of the study was to experimentally determine whether there is an influence of participants' gender, faculty department and social value orientation on the cooperation rate in the games, and whether the influence of these factors on the cooperation rate remains the same under the influence of various external stimuli. In accordance with the objectives of the study, five hypotheses were proposed. Testing of hypotheses revealed that the gender, faculty department and social value orientation have no significant influence, on participants' behaviour, if there is an external stimulus. Changes in the behaviour of participants i.e. increase in the cooperation rate came after the influence of two stimuli: (1) when the opponent was known in advance, and (2) when the structure of payoff matrix was changed. Although it was expected that the cooperation rate would be higher if the participants are motivated by additional (bonus) credits on the exam, it was shown that this stimulus does not have enough significant impact on the cooperation rate.
The present study investigated the effects of models developed within the framework of science and technology laboratory applications course on pre-service teachers' opinions about model and modeling. Thirty one (20 females; 11 males) pre-service teachers from the faculty of education of Aksaray University participated in the study. For a 14-week period, the pre-service teachers working in groups prepared various models within the framework of science and technology laboratory applications course. "Opinions about Model and Modeling Questionnaire" developed by Giines et al. (2004) was administered to elicit the pre-service teachers' opinions about model and modeling as pre-test and post-test. Moreover, at the end of the study, the classroom pre-service teachers were asked four open-ended questions to solicit their opinions about model and modeling. The findings of the present study revealed that the erroneous information possessed by the pre-service teachers about model and modeling before the application changed in the positive direction. In the responses given to the open-ended questions, the pre-service teachers reported that they realized more meaningful and permanent learning through models they created, they observed increases in their learning speed and they believe in the usefulness of drawing on model and modeling in lessons.
