
This systematic review and meta-analysis verified the effects of different Combined Training (CT) programs on body composition, aerobic power and muscle strength performance in healthy women. A bibliographic search was performed in the following electronic databases: Medline, PubMed, Lilacs, Plataforma Capes and EMBASE from the oldest registry until November 2023. 14 eligible articles were found that met the following criteria: original randomized articles and non-randomized comparatives; experimental CT studies with at least four weeks of intervention and with healthy adult women (>18 years); studies with the Control Group (CG) that restricted the practice of physical exercises; that analyzed at least one of the outcomes related to muscle strength, body composition (fat mass and lean mass) and aerobic power (VO2). We compared CT versus GC applying a random effects meta-analysis model. We estimated the standardized mean difference (SMD) for each group (CT and GC) comparing pre-post results. According to the results of the meta-analysis, all the variables analyzed were favorable to the CT compared to the CG, but Body Mass (SMD=0.05;CI: -0,02-0,13) and Aerobic Power (SMD=1.34; CI: -0,04-2,72) were not significant. Fat Mass (SMD=0.22; CI: 0.09-0.35), muscle strength (SMD= 0.83; CI: 0.59-1.41), and muscle mass (SMD=0.34; CI: 0.22-0.47) showed significant changes. These results suggest that the training models promoted increases in aerobic power and muscular strength, and significantly improved body composition compared to control group, regardless of the protocol used.
Chronic compartment syndrome is a condition characterized by pain and sensations of increased pressure, usually induced by exercise, and its diagnosis is usually late. The aim of this report was to present a case of chronic compartment syndrome, in a young male patient, a recreational basketball athlete, whose diagnosis was made in 6 months based on the patient’s history and physical examination. The conservative treatment wasn’t effective, so the treatment of choice was bilateral endoscopic fasciotomy, which confers lower risks of infection and decrease in the time of return to sports when compared to the invasive technique
Objectives: The purpose of the present study is to show the biomechanical and histological alterations in the calcaneal tendon of rats submitted to stresses through physical exercise and heating in a thermal bath. Methods: We used 35 rats divided into seven groups: Baseline (BL), group not submitted to any intervention, (C), group not submitted to either heating or exercise, (Ex), group with no heating and with exercise, (H42), group with heating at 42°C and without exercise, (ExH42), group with heating at 42°C and with exercise, (H45), group with heating at 45°C and without exercise, and (ExH45), group with heating at 45°C and with exercise. The exercises consisted of water jumps performed 10 times in 4 sets, interspersed with the thermal bath. Heating was performed by immersing the lower limbs in warm water for 10 minutes. The tendons were removed and submitted to the traction test, histological analysis, and quantification by means of fractal analysis. Statistical analysis was performed, with a significance level of 5%. Results: Heating at 45°C significantly decreased maximum strength, stiffness, energy absorbed, and mature collagen (p<0.05), and simultaneously increased the amount of immature collagen (p<0.05). Heating and exercise promoted inflammation and disarrangement of tendinous tissue. Conclusion: We conclude that heating to 45°C caused injury and a decrease in mature collagen, leading to weakening of the biomechanical properties. In addition,exercise also caused tendon damage and intensified the effects of heating.
Introduction: Rhabdomyolysis is a syndrome characterized by the injury of skeletal muscle cells, releasing their components into the bloodstream. In the USA, there are about 26 thousand cases annually, of which 5 to 25% evolve to acute kidney injury. Causes include trauma, ischemia, drugs, and intense physical exercise. The most common diagnosis is made by serum creatine phosphokinase (CPK) dosage. Objective: To dissociate serum CPK levels from the isolated diagnosis of rhabdomyolysis. Materials and Methods: This study is a systematic review of articles on exercise-induced rhabdomyolysis, following PRISMA. The databases used were Scopus, Embase, Web of Science and Pubmed. The keywords were “exertional rhabdomyolysis” and “exercise induced rhabdomyolysis”. Of the 2600 articles found, those relating CPK to complications of exercise-induced rhabdomyolysis were maintained. Articles on other etiologies of rhabdomyolysis and the pediatric population were excluded. The remaining articles were classified by the Oxford Levels of Evidence, excluding case reports, expert opinions, and non-full-text articles, resulting in 8 articles that related exercise-induced rhabdomyolysis and serum CPK levels to the onset of symptoms and target organ damage. Results: The review included 8 articles, totaling 66 clinical cases. All patients had elevated serum CPK levels and were diagnosed with rhabdomyolysis. The 66 patients were divided into 4 main groups according to their clinical status, tests requested, and evolution. Conclusion: The CPK increases after the practice of physical activity and remains elevated in trained individuals. Patients who developed complications had risk factors. The diagnosis of rhabdomyolysis should be based on serum CPK, serum myoglobin, and urine myoglobin
RESUMO Objetivo: Avaliar a prevalência e as características das lesões musculoesqueléticas associadas aos praticantes de CrossFit® e a relação dessa prevalência entre aqueles que realizam de forma concomitante o treinamento resistido (TR). Métodos: Estudo transversal, no qual foram incluídos participantes adultos de ambos os sexos, que responderam a um questionário misto de morbidade adaptado. Os participantes foram divididos em grupos de acordo com a prática ou não de outra modalidade juntamente ao CrossFit®, com destaque para o TR. Foram utilizados procedimentos de estatísticas analítica e descritiva, com um nível de significância estatística de 5% (p<0,05). Resultados: Foram incluídos no estudo 179 participantes. Observaram-se prevalências de lesões musculoesqueléticas na amostra geral do estudo de 32,4% e naqueles que realizam o CrossFit® com TR de 30,8%. A razão de prevalência de lesões para esse grupo foi de 0,95, com menor prevalência de lesões para os membros superiores (p=0,03) e inferiores (p=0,02). Vale a pena destacar que 96% dos praticantes de CrossFit® e TR realizaram treinamentos de força com foco apenas nas musculaturas dos membros superiores e/ou inferiores, sem realização de treinamento específico para o segmento anatômico do Core (regiões lombar e pelve). Conclusão: O TR associado ao CrossFit® e com abrangência a todos os segmentos anatômicos pode ser considerado um fator de proteção para a ocorrência de lesões musculoesquelética no CrossFit®. ABSTRACT Introduction: Exergames or active video games are digital platforms with functionality associated with body movement, which dialogue with improving physical activity levels, stimulating pleasure in practice and adherence to change habits, physically active behavior, and better quality of life. Objective: This study aimed to synthesize the available evidence on the contribution of exergame to Body Mass Index, physical activity level, glycemic control, blood pressure, and cardiorespiratory fitness in adolescents. Methods: This is a systematic review, reported following the PRISMA writing recommendations, without language restrictions, for articles indexed in the following databases: MEDLINE / PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, and Lilacs. Data extraction was performed analogously in a spreadsheet previously tested and standardized. The assessment of the risk of bias in the included studies was carried out by the RoB 1.0 tool in all of its domains in duplicate of reviewers. Initially, 3.039 studies were found. Results: The studies cover a total of 526 adolescents aged ten to 19. The most used platform in the studies was the Nintendo Wii, followed by the PlayStation, Xbox 360, and Dance Dance Revolution. The results indicated that interventions using exergames were effective for changing BMI, but there was no evidence on cardiovascular outcomes, with no effective changes in glycemic control and blood pressure and a significant response (p <0.05) in cardiorespiratory fitness. Conclusion: The exergame points to satisfactory results in improving health and can be incorporated as a relevant public policy in the adolescent health promotion. RESUMO Introdução: Nos jogos de hóquei no gelo, o desempenho da equipe é influenciado por vários fatores contextuais, e entender os estilos de jogo permite revelar como os principais indicadores de desempenho variam em diferentes situações. Objetivo: Esta pesquisa tem como objetivo explorar os estilos de jogo das equipes de hóquei no gelo de elite e identificar aspectos-chave de desempenho em diferentes estilos de jogo e a diferença do resultado final. Métodos: O desempenho de partida de 31 equipes da National Hockey League durante 1271 partidas foi analisado e comparado, considerando o estilo de jogo e a diferença de gol final. Resultados: A análise de componentes principais retornou 8 componentes de desempenho, descrevendo os estilos técnico-táticos das equipes. A análise subsequente revelou que houve diferença significativa entre três resultados de jogo em estado desfavorável, penalidades principais, habilidade de manter a posse do disco, habilidade de defender o lance e desempenho agressivo (p<0,001; = 0,007-0,273). Conclusão: As equipes de classificação mais alta que venceram os jogos em desequilíbrio numérico de jogadores apresentaram melhor desempenho na habilidade de defender o lance e no desempenho agressivo. As equipes de classificação mais baixa, que perderam em jogos desequilibrados, mantiveram menos posse do disco e tiveram maior probabilidade de ficar com um jogador a menos (p <0,05, ES = 0,131-1,410). O estudo demonstra como os estilos de jogo podem ser usados para contextualizar os principais determinantes dos jogos de hóquei no gelo. Introduction: Covid-19 pandemic promoted social isolation and the consequent reduction of moderate and vigorous physical activity (MVPA) and increased sedentary behavior (SB). As a strategy to change the reduction MVPA chart and increase SB, digital platforms to exercises (DPE) became more popular during the COVID-19 pandemic. Objective: Verify if there are differences in physical activity (walking time and MVPA) and sedentary behavior (week, weekend, and all week) between women who used DPE and did not use (No DPE) during the pandemic. Methods: This research was a cross-sectional study. Women over 18 years old from all federative units and all regions of Brazil were invited to participate in this study through a link sent via email and social networks. Participation occurred by completing the online questionnaires [Demographic Characteristics, Physical Activity, and SB (International Physical Activity Questionnaire - IPAQ)]. The IPAQ is a tool widely used and validated for the Brazilian population and has high correlations with direct measures of physical activity. ABSTRACT Introduction: Body composition assessment (BCA) using anthropometric measurements (AM) is used to monitor the nutritional and health status of the elderly. As predictor variables, MAs must be valid, practical, and quick, as they favor adherence and avoid possible resistance and embarrassment on the part of those being assessed and being minimally invasive. Objective: To develop and validate equations using accessible and minimally invasive anthropometric measurements for BCA in elderly women. Methods: 100 women (68.1±6.15 years) were randomly assigned to two groups: validation (n=40; 68.1±6.15 years); and estimation (n=60; 68.4±6.70 years). DXA was selected as the criterion measure, and MAs (body mass, height, skinfolds, circumferences) were selected as predictor variables. Means were compared using the paired Student's t-test; correlations were verified using Pearson's r-test; equations using Multiple Linear Regression. The level of agreement between the groups’ results was checked using the Bland-Altman technique. Results: Two equations developed and tested (E3 and E4) met the validation criteria as they showed adequate correlation coefficients (E3: r=0.73; E4: r=0.70), low constant errors (E3: EC= −0.56; E4: EC=-0.90), total error (E3: ET=3.22; E4: ET=3.06) lower than the Standard Error of Estimate (E3: EPE=3.24; E4: EPE=3.21), indicating no statistically significant difference between the two BCA techniques observed (p>0.05). The Bland-Altman technique showed good agreement between the results of the two techniques. Conclusion: Two were validated: E3 (%Gdxa= −41.556 + 4.041(BMI) + 0.165(DcCox) − 0.440(CircCox) + 0.269(CircQuad) − 0.053(BMI)²); and E4 (%GdxaE4= 15.329 + 1.044(BMI) −1.055(CircAbra) + 0.282(CircQuad) + 0.164(DcCox) − 0.262(CircCox)). Notably, the small number of measurements were located in areas of the body that are easily accessible and have little body exposure, which minimizes possible embarrassment and favors adherence by the elderly. RESUMO Introdução: A avaliação da composição corporal (ACC) com auxílio das medidas antropométricas (MA) é utilizado no acompanhamento do estado nutricional e de saúde das populações idosas. As MAs como variáveis preditoras, devem ser válidas, práticas e rápidas, pois favorecem a adesão e evitam possíveis resistências e constrangimento das avaliadas, além de minimamente invasivas. Objetivo: Desenvolver e validar equações utilizando medidas antropométricas de fácil acesso e minimamente invasivas, para ACC de idosas. Métodos: 100 mulheres (68,1±6,15 anos) distribuídas aleatoriamente por dois grupos: validação (n=40; 68,1±6,15 anos); estimativa (n=60; 68,4±6,70 anos). Como medida critério selecionou-se a DXA, como variáveis preditoras as MAs (massa corporal, estatura, dobras cutâneas, circunferências). As médias foram comparadas com o teste t de Student pareado; as correlações verificadas com o teste r Pearson; as equações com a Regressão Linear Múltipla. O nível de concordância entre os resultados dos grupos foi verificado com a técnica Bland-Altman. Resultados: Duas equações desenvolvidas e testadas (E3 e E4) atenderam aos critérios de validação, pois, apresentaram coeficientes de correlação adequados (E3: r=0,73; E4: r=0,70), erros constantes baixos (E3: EC= −0,56; E4: EC=-0,90), erro total (E3: ET=3,22; E4: ET=3,06) menores que o Erro Padrão de Estimativa (E3: EPE=3,24; E4: EPE=3,21), indicando não existir diferença estatisticamente significativa entre as duas técnicas de ACC observadas (p>0,05). A técnica Bland-Altman demonstrou boa concordância entre os resultados das duas técnicas. Conclusão: Duas equações foram validadas: E3 (%Gdxa= −41,556 + 4,041(IMC) + 0,165(DcCox) – 0,440(CircCox) + 0,269(CircQuad) – 0,053(IMC)²); e E4 (%GdxaE4= 15,329 + 1,044(IMC) −1,055(CircAbra) + 0,282(CircQuad) + 0,164(DcCox) – 0,262(CircCox)). Destaca-se o fato do reduzido número de medidas situarem-se em áreas corporais de fácil acesso e de pouca exposição corporal, que minimizam possíveis constrangimentos e favorecem a adesão das idosas. RESUMO Introdução: As perdas cognitivas estão entre os eventos mais prevalentes na população idosa, podendo causar déficits funcionais. Dentre as alternativas de prevenção e tratamento não medicamentosos disponíveis, o aumento dos níveis de aptidão funcional apresenta-se como uma estratégia importante sugerindo melhorias na função física e na função cognitiva de idosos, desencadeadas através da prática de exercícios. Objetivo: Determinar o poder preditivo dos indicadores de aptidão funcional e estabelecer seus pontos de corte como discriminadores do comprometimento cognitivo em idosos. Métodos: A amostra compreendeu 310 idosos que responderam a um questionário composto por informações sociodemográficas, hábitos de vida, hospitalização nos últimos 12 meses, presença de comorbidade e o Mini-Exame do Estado Mental. A aptidão funcional foi avaliada por meio dos testes de Força de Preensão Manual (FPM) e o de sentar e levantar da cadeira. Para identificação dos preditores do comprometimento cognitivo, foi adotada a análise das curvas Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC), com intervalo de confiança de 95% (IC95%). Posteriormente, identificaram-se os pontos de corte com as respectivas sensibilidades e especificidades. As análises foram efetuadas respeitando-se o nível de significância de 5%. Resultados: Observou-se que alguns indicadores de aptidão funcional apresentaram Área Sob a Curva (ASC) significativas, sendo que o teste de sentar e levantar da cadeira (ASC=0,72; IC95%= 0,64-0,77) apresentou os melhores resultados. Os melhores pontos de corte para o teste de FPM e o teste de sentar e levantar da cadeira foram de 18,8 kgf e 8 repetições respectivamente. Conclusão: Os resultados do presente estudo permitem concluir que o teste de sentar e levantar da cadeira apresenta moderada eficiência para discriminar a presença de comprometimento cognitivo em idosos. RESUMO Introdução: Durante o basquete, os movimentos dos jogadores representam uma reação a um estímulo externo imprevisível, simples ou complexo (agilidade não planejada). Objetivo: O presente estudo teve como objetivo comparar o teste de agilidade não planejada com o teste de agilidade planejada no intuito de aumentar o conhecimento sobre percepção, tomada de decisão, antecipação e habilidades motoras em jogadoras de basquete. Métodos: Trinta e seis jogadoras de basquete (idade: 18,81 ± 2,58 anos) realizaram o Teste de Tempo de Reação e Deslizamento Defensivo (RTADST) no primeiro dia e o Teste T no dia seguinte. Resultados: não houve correlações estatisticamente significativas entre o RTADST e o teste T em toda a amostra ou entre jogadores de perímetro e de poste. A correlação entre o teste T e o percentual de gordura é significativa no nível de 0,05, enquanto as outras correlações analisadas foram insignificantes. Os jogadores de perímetro obtiveram melhores resultados no teste RTADST. Não houve diferenças significativas entre os jogadores de perímetro e de poste no teste T. Conclusões: O RTADST e o teste T estão testando habilidades diferentes. Recomendamos o uso do RTADST para treinadores e especialistas em condicionamento físico. ABSTRACT Objective: To evaluate the prevalence and characteristics of musculoskeletal injuries associated with CrossFit® practitioners and the relationship of this prevalence among those who concomitantly perform resistance training (RT). Methods: Cross-sectional study in which adult participants of both sexes were included, who answered a mixed morbidity questionnaire adapted. The participants were allocated into groups according to whether or not they practiced another modality along with CrossFit®, with emphasis on RT. Analytical and descriptive statistics procedures were used, with a statistical significance level of 5% (p<0.05). Results: A total of 179 participants were included in the study. Prevalences of musculoskeletal injuries were observed in the overall study sample of 32.4% and in those who perform CrossFit® with RT of 30.8%. The injury prevalence ratio for this group was 0.95, with lower injury prevalence for the upper limbs (p=0.03) and lower limbs (p=0.02). It is worth noting that 96% of the CrossFit® and RT practitioners did strength training focused only on the upper and/or lower limb musculatures, without specific training for the anatomical segment of the Core (lumbar and pelvis). Conclusion: RT associated with CrossFit® and covering all anatomical segments, can be considered a protective factor for the occurrence of musculoskeletal injuries in CrossFit®. ABSTRACT Introduction: In ice hockey games, the team's performance is influenced by many contextual factors, and understanding playing styles allows to reveal how key performance indicators vary under different situations. Objective: This research aims to explore the playing styles of elite ice-hockey teams and to identify key performance aspects under different final goal difference situations. Methods: This article analyzed compared the match performance of 31 National Hockey League teams during 1271 matches considering their playing styles and final goal difference. Results: The principal component analysis obtained 8 performance components describing the technical-tactical styles of the teams. The subsequent analysis found that there was significant difference between three match outcomes in unfavorable state, major penalties, puck possession maintaining ability, shot defending ability, aggressive performance (p<0.001; = 0.007-0.273). Conclusions: Higher-ranked teams winning the unbalanced games showed better performance in shot defending ability and aggressive performance. Lower-ranked teams losing in unbalanced games kept less possession of the puck and were more likely to be shorthanded (p<0.05, ES=0.131-1.410). The study demonstrates how playing styles can be used to contextualize key determinants from ice hockey games. Level of evidence I; Therapeutic Studies Investigating the Results of Treatment.
RESUMO Introdução: A pandemia provocada pelo COVID-19 resultou em efeitos preocupantes relacionados aos “novos” hábitos adotados pela população. O longo período de fechamento das escolas e o isolamento social têm impactado profundamente a aprendizagem, a saúde e a proteção de crianças e adolescentes. Objetivo: Reavaliar atletas escolares submetidos à quarentena por COVID-19, destacando os principais hábitos de atividade física (AF), alimentação e sono e as implicações relacionadas à saúde física e mental após um ano de pandemia na cidade de Curitiba, Brasil. Métodos: Foram realizadas duas pesquisas, 342 compareceram à primeira avaliação e 222 à segunda. Foi aplicado aos alunos um questionário online (Google docs), composto por 18 questões fechadas e abertas no primeiro momento (início da pandemia) e 22 no segundo momento (após um ano de pandemia). Resultados: Metade dos alunos (53,2%; 57%) relatou fazer até três refeições ao dia. Quanto ao horário de sono, a maioria dos alunos (80%; 79,5%) conseguiu dormir à noite entre 6h00 e 10h00. Houve diminuição significativa do tempo gasto nas redes sociais, migrando para atividades escolares (p <0,005). Aproximadamente um quarto dos alunos atletas (27%) praticava AF todos os dias e se sentiu realizado na primeira avaliação, e na segunda avaliação esse número aumentou para 43% (p = 0,009). Conclusão: Apesar da diminuição do tempo de tela e do aumento da AF regular, houve aumento do peso corporal em mais de um terço dos atletas avaliados. Os que mantiveram o peso corporal foram os que mantiveram estilos de vida mais saudáveis com várias refeições dentro da faixa recomendada e que dormiam de 6 a 10 horas por noite. ABSTRACT Introduction: During basketball, players’ movements represent a reaction to an unpredictable single or complex external stimulus (nonplanned agility). Objective: The present study aimed to compare the test of nonplanned agility to the planned agility test and to increase the knowledge of perception, decision-making, anticipation, and motor abilities of female basketball players. Methods: Thirty-six female basketball players (age: 18.81 ± 2.58 years) performed The Reaction Time and Defensive Sliding Test (RTADST) on the first day and the T-test the following day. Results: there were no statistically significant correlations between the RTADST and T-test at the whole sample level or between perimeter and post players. The T-test and Fat % correlation is significant at the 0.05 level, while the other analyzed correlations were insignificant. Perimeter players achieved better results on the RTADST test. There were no significant differences between perimeter and post players on the T-test. Conclusion: The RTADST and T-test are testing different abilities. We recommend the use of the RTADST to coaches and conditioning experts. Level of Evidence II; Diagnostic Study Investigating a Diagnostic Test.
Introdução: A obesidade infantil é considerada a doença crônica mais prevalente na população infantil, impactando no aparecimento precoce de doenças associadas. Esses sujeitos estão mais suscetíveis a problemas psicológicos e redução da qualidade de vida, aumentando os índices de depressão tanto na infância quanto na vida adulta. Objetivo: Verificar o efeito de um programa recreativo de futsal na qualidade de vida de crianças com sobrepeso e obesidade. Metodologia: Treze meninos com sobrepeso e obesidade com idade entre 8 e 12 anos participaram de um programa recreativo de futsal durante 12 semanas, composto por, aproximadamente, 80 minutos por sessão e frequência semanal de duas vezes por semana. A intensidade foi superior a 80% da frequência cardíaca máxima. A qualidade de vida foi avaliada por meio do questionário PedsQL 4.0, que avalia questões nas dimensões física, emocional, social e escolar. Resultados: Não foram encontradas diferenças significativas para as variáveis antropométricas (P>0,05). A intervenção melhorou a dimensão emocional (68,7 ± 15,9 vs. 79,1 ± 18; P=0,03) em meninos com sobrepeso e obesidade. Quanto à dimensão social (64,4 ± 13,7 vs. 63,7 ± 23,5; P>0,05), física (68,3 ± 24,6 vs. 75,5 ± 18,7, P>0,05) e escolar (71,1 ± 22,8 vs.: 72,2 ± 24,2, P> 0,05), não foram encontradas diferenças estatísticas (P>0,05). Conclusão: O programa recreativo de futsal foi eficaz para melhorar a qualidade de vida na dimensão emocional de crianças com sobrepeso e obesidade.
ABSTRACT Introduction: Physical exercise can be an alternative for preventing and treating the harmful effects of obesity, mainly inflammatory effects on skeletal muscle and liver tissues. However, no consensus exists regarding this purpose's best physical training model. Objective: Evaluate morphological, metabolic, and inflammatory alterations in rats’ skeletal and hepatic muscle tissues caused by aerobic and resistance training. Methods: 24 Wistar rats were divided into sedentary (S), aerobic (AE), and resistance training (R) groups. Blood glucose, total cholesterol, and serum triglycerides were measured periodically. After euthanasia, body mass was measured to calculate the total mass gain during the experiment. High-density lipoprotein (HDL) was measured. Adipose tissue was extracted to calculate its percentage relative to body mass and the liver, soleus, and gastrocnemius muscles for morphological analyses and concentrations of glycogen, lipids, and Tumor Necrosis Factor α (TNF-α). The Kruskall-Wallis test and Dunn's post-test were performed for statistical analysis, adopting p<0.05. Results: Both training models reduced the percentage of adipose tissue, body mass gain, and hepatic TNF-α concentration (p<0.05). AE increased serum HDL, gastrocnemius fiber diameter and reduced the fractal dimension in the soleus (p<0.05). R reduced blood glucose and serum and liver lipids, increased liver and soleus glycogen concentrations, increased gastrocnemius fiber diameter, and decreased TNF-α (p<0.05). Conclusion: Both training models reduced body mass, relative visceral adipose tissue, serum total cholesterol concentration, and liver inflammation. However, resistance training was more effective in promoting metabolic effects in the liver and skeletal muscle and reducing muscle inflammation in rats. Level of Evidence V; Expert Opinion.
ABSTRACT High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) promotes similar adaptations and in some cases, superior to continuous aerobic training of moderate intensity, even when performed at all-out intensities. In this condition, it tends to have the greatest physiological disturbance and accumulation of metabolites compared to submaximal intensities, being one of the main factors associated with the negative response of pleasure in training. Objective: To verify the relationship between physiological and psychophysiological responses in order to repeat the training of two HIIT protocols of mesm volume load and different periods of work in trained adults of both sexes. Methods: In a randomized experiment, the sample consisted of 9 individuals aged 28±5 years, body mass 69.6±14.2 kg, height 169±0.1cm, BMI 24.1±2.3 kg/m2 and body fat percentage 20.2±7.9% practitioners of structured aerobic physical exercises for at least six months. Two different HIIT protocols were performed on an exercise bike, being (I) protocol 1:0.5, with prescribed intensity (80-90% of MAX HR), (II) protocol 1:2 with prescribed intensity (all-out) with total duration of effort of 20 minutes and interval of at least 48 hours between each session. Heart rate (HR), systemic blood pressure (SBP), subjective perception of exertion (SPE), visual analog scale (VAS), affective response (AR), fun (PACES) and intention to repeat the session were analyzed. The statistical analysis used was ANOVA with Tukey's post-hoc (p<0.05). Results: The analyses of HR, SBP, VAS, PACES and SPE showed no significant difference between the training protocols. The affective response (AR and intention to repeat) showed a decline in the protocol 1:0.5, but without significance (p>0.05). Conclusion: The data allow us to conclude that the 1:2 protocol caused greater physiological disturbances during exertion and presented greater positive affective response and intention to repeat the exercise session, variables that may contribute to adherence to regular physical exercise. ABSTRACT Introduction: The pandemic caused by COVID-19 has resulted in worrying effects related to the “new” habits adopted by the population. The long period of school closures and social isolation have profoundly impacted the learning, health, and protection of children and adolescents. Objective: To re-evaluate school athletes quarantined by COVID-19, highlighting the main physical activity (PA), eating and sleeping habits, and the implications related to physical and mental health after one year of the pandemic in the city of Curitiba, Brazil. Methods: Two surveys were conducted, 342 attended the first assessment, and 222 attended the second. An online questionnaire (Google docs) was applied to the students, consisting of 18 closed and open questions in the first moment (beginning of the pandemic) and 22 at the second moment (after one year of the pandemic). Results: Half of the students (53.2%; 57%) reported eating up to three meals daily. With regard to sleeping hours, the majority of students (80%; 79.5%) were able to sleep at night between 6:00 and 10:00. There was a significant decrease in the time spent on social networks, migrating to school activities (p <0.005). Approximately a quarter of the student-athletes (27%) practiced PA every day and felt fulfilled in the first assessment, and in the second assessment, this number increased to 43% (p = 0.009). Conclusion: Despite the decrease in screen time and the increase in regular PA, there was an increase in body weight in more than a third of the athletes evaluated. Those who maintained their body weight maintained healthier lifestyles with several meals within the recommended range and slept 6 to 10 hours per night.
