Background: National surveillance provides an overview of the overall burden of childhood pneumonia but offers limited insight into factors associated with pneumonia among children treated at individual healthcare facilities. Dr. Mohammad Hoesin General Hospital is a tertiary referral hospital in South Sumatra and therefore provides clinically relevant, although not population-representative, hospital-based evidence to complement national and provincial surveillance. This study aimed to examine factors associated with pneumonia diagnosis among children aged 1–60 months treated at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin General Hospital, Palembang, using 2024 medical record data. Methods: This analytical cross-sectional study included 123 children aged 1–60 months, using medical records from 2024, comprising 91 with pneumonia and 32 without. Descriptive statistics were used to summarize participant characteristics. Bivariate analyses were performed using Pearson's chi-square test or Fisher's exact test, as appropriate. Crude odds ratios (ORs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated using binary logistic regression. Results: Among the 123 children included in this hospital-based sample, 91 (74.0%) were classified as having pneumonia. Incomplete immunization was associated with higher odds of pneumonia (crude OR=7.82; 95% CI: 2.42–25.22; Fisher's exact p<0.001). Age ≤12 months, male sex, malnutrition, and absence of exclusive breastfeeding showed positive but statistically non-significant crude associations, with wide confidence intervals. Conclusion: Incomplete immunization was associated with higher odds of pneumonia in the bivariate analysis of this hospital-based sample. Because the estimate was unadjusted and the study was cross-sectional, hospital-based, and based on secondary records, adjusted studies with broader environmental and socioeconomic variables are required to confirm an independent association.
Background: Kelurahan Baru RT 01 RW 12 Kecamatan Baolan is one of the areas that often experiences floods and has an impact on property destruction, clean water difficulties and poses a risk of disease, so community preparedness is needed to minimize the impact caused. This study aims to analyze community preparedness in dealing with flood disasters in Baolan District, Tolitoli Regency . Methods: This study uses a survey method with a correlational approach which was carried out in Baru Village, RT 01 RW 12, Baolan District from June 11 to 13, 2024. The research sample consisted of all heads of families residing in the area, totaling 102 heads of families. The research variable is community preparedness in dealing with flood disasters. The instrument used was in the form of a preparedness questionnaire that included five parameters, namely: knowledge, attitude, emergency response plan, early warning system, and resource mobilization. Data analysis uses the Pearson product moment test, as well as multiple linear regression tests with a 95% confidence interval (CI). Results: The results of the study showed that community preparedness was in the category of very ready (69.6%). There was a significant relationship between knowledge parameters (p=0.000; r=0.822), attitudes (p=0.000; r=0.609), emergency response plans (p=0.000; r=0.862), early warning systems (p=0.000; r=0.642), and resource mobilization (p=0.000; r=0,623) and disaster preparedness (p<0.05). Of the five parameters, knowledge is the most influential factor on preparedness (p=0.000; beta=0.435). Conclusion: The community in the research area is classified as very prepared to face flood disasters, with knowledge as the most influential factor. These findings suggest that increased public knowledge about flood disaster risk plays a key role in improving preparedness. This emphasizes the importance of continuous education programs to strengthen public knowledge and awareness.
Background: The quality of maternal health services at primary healthcare facilities remains a critical determinant of pregnant women’s service experiences and continued utilization of antenatal care (ANC). Inadequate service quality, particularly in terms of infrastructure, service processes, and interpersonal communication, may limit patient satisfaction and weaken the effectiveness of maternal health programs. Midwives play a central role in shaping service quality at Maternal and Child Health (MCH) clinics. This study aimed to examine the association between healthcare service quality and pregnant women’s satisfaction through midwife performance at the Batalaiworu Community Health Center, Southeast Sulawesi, Indonesia. Methods: A quantitative cross-sectional design was applied involving 51 pregnant women in Sidodadi Village, selected using saturated sampling. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire measuring healthcare service quality (structure and process dimensions) and patient satisfaction. Primary and secondary data were analyzed using the chi-square test to assess the association between variables. Results: Most respondents perceived healthcare service quality as good (72.5%), and 68.6% reported being satisfied with the services received. Bivariate analysis showed a statistically significant association between healthcare service quality and pregnant women’s satisfaction (ρ < 0.001). Pregnant women who perceived better service quality tended to report higher satisfaction levels, although some dissatisfaction persisted despite favorable service conditions. Conclusion: The findings indicate a significant association between healthcare service quality and pregnant women’s satisfaction at the primary healthcare level. These results highlight the importance of strengthening midwife performance, particularly in communication, responsiveness, and patient-centered care practices, alongside maintaining adequate service infrastructure. Continuous supervision and capacity-building initiatives for midwives are recommended to enhance maternal health service quality and patient satisfaction.
Background: Poor oral hygiene in preschool children remains a common public health problem and may lead to dental caries, gingivitis, pain, and impaired quality of life. Inadequate toothbrushing skills are an important contributing factor. Educational media such as animated videos may help children learn correct brushing techniques in an engaging way. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of animated video-based oral health education on toothbrushing skills among preschool children. Methods: This study used a pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design conducted at TK Khalifah Jambi, Jambi City, Indonesia, from January to March 2025. A total of 50 preschool children aged 4–6 years were selected using purposive sampling. Participants received a seven-minute animated oral health education video followed by demonstration and supervised toothbrushing practice. Toothbrushing skills were assessed using a structured observational checklist before the intervention and seven days afterward. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test with a significance level of p < 0.05. Results: The mean pretest toothbrushing skill score was 52.3 ± 10.6, which increased to 82.7 ± 8.4 at posttest. There was a statistically significant improvement in toothbrushing skill scores after the intervention (p < 0.001). Improvements were observed in brushing sequence, brushing duration, tongue cleaning, and rinsing practices. Conclusion: Animated video-based oral health education combined with demonstration and supervised practice was associated with improved toothbrushing skills among preschool children. This approach may be considered as a practical strategy for early childhood oral health promotion programs.
Background: Stroke is a major cause of disability that affects patients’ ability to perform activities of daily living and reduces their level of independence. Adequate knowledge regarding activities of daily living is essential in supporting the rehabilitation process and improving post-stroke independence. This study examined the association between knowledge of activities of daily living and functional independence among post-stroke outpatients. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted using a purposive sampling technique. A total of 103 post-stroke patients attending follow-up visits at the Neurology Outpatient Clinic were recruited. Data were collected using an Activities of Daily Living Knowledge Questionnaire and the Barthel Index to assess patients’ level of independence. Statistical analysis was performed using the Spearman Rank test with a significance level of α = 0.05. Results: Among 103 post-stroke patients, most respondents had moderate ADL knowledge and varying levels of functional dependence. ADL knowledge was significantly associated with independence level in the bivariate analysis (p = 0.006). However, after adjustment for demographic and clinical factors, age emerged as the strongest independent predictor of ADL impairment. Patients aged 65 years and older had substantially higher odds of dependence than younger patients, while ADL knowledge did not remain statistically significant in the final model. Conclusion: ADL knowledge was significantly associated with functional independence among post-stroke patients in bivariate analysis; however, age was the strongest independent predictor of ADL impairment after adjustment. These findings suggest that ADL education may support rehabilitation, but it should be integrated with targeted physical rehabilitation and caregiver involvement, particularly for older patients at higher risk of dependence.
Background: Upper back pain (UBP) is stiffness in the back that starts from the area behind the neck to the waist, which can cause pain. One type of work that is at risk is loading and unloading work. Loading and unloading workers at the port manually carry out their work with loads that exceed the limits recommended by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). Manual handling activities carried out continuously can risk causing complaints of pain in the upper back. This research aims to determine the recommended weight limit (RWL) and Lifting index (LI) values on loading and unloading workers, as well as to analyze the Ergonomic Risk Level in manual handling Activities using the NIOSH Lifting Equation method with UBP complaints. Methods: This research employs an analytic observational study with a cross-sectional design. The research sample employed an exhaustive sampling technique, involving as many as 50 participants. Measurement of ergonomic risk used questionnaires and the NIOSH Lifting Equation. Data analyzed using Spearman correlation test. Results: Based on the calculation of Lifting Index (LI) value, most respondents work with a moderate risk level (1-<3), namely 33 respondents (66%) and assesment result of UBP complaints used a questionnaire showed that 19 respondents (38%) stated that they often experienced UBP complaints due to their work activities, 14 respondents (28%) stated that they always felt UBP complaints, and 3 respondents (6%) never experienced complaints. Spearman correlation test obtained ρ-value = 0.000 (<0.05) and r = 0.727. Conclusion: There is a relationship between the risks of manual handling work and complaints of upper back pain in loading and unloading workers (TKBM). This relationship is strong and positive (unidirectional), meaning that the higher the risk of manual handling work, the higher the complaints of upper back pain experienced. If the manual handling risk value can be reduced, workers can avoid the risk of complaints of upper back pain.
Background: There are 2.2 billion people worldwide experiencing eye disorders, with 510 million suffering from untreated vision impairment, and Indonesia is a significant contributor to this issue. Asthenopia is a symptom caused by eye strain, which can lead to vision impairment. This study aims to assess the effect of eye exercise therapy on symptom of asthenopia. Conclusion: Eye exercise therapy has an effect on Asthenopia symptoms. Future research is recommended to explore the use of eye exercise therapy for refractive eye disorders.
Background: The 2025-2029 NMDP targets a reduction in stunting of 14.4% in 2029 from a baseline of 18.8% in 2025. This means that stunting must be reduced by 4.4% over 4 years, or approximately 1.1% per year. Indonesia has only managed to reduce stunting by 0.1% per year. This research aims to identify best practices, provide policy insights, or analyze success factors. Methods: The study processed aggregate data at the district/city level from Basic Health Research 2018, Susenas 2018 and Gross Regional Domestic Product (PDRB) data from BPS 2018 with a cross-sectional design. Stunting was measured in children aged 0-23 months using standardized value (Z-score) using WHO Anthro 2018. Other data variables are presented in percentages. Correlation tests and path analysis were used to see the direct and indirect relationships of various risk factors to stunting. Results: There is a significant relationship between access to food and the prevalence of stunting at the district/city level (p-value <0.05; r-value = 0.19). Pregnancy check-ups (path coefficient = -0.29) and access to food (path coefficient = -0.31) have a significant direct contribution to the prevalence of stunting at the district/city level. Conclusion: Research findings state that pregnancy checks according to regulations and access to food are risk factors for stunting that have a major impact on reducing stunting in districts/cities. In low and medium categories of stunting, the government needs to pay attention to the disparity in the percentage of nutritional services for these two factors, along with other factors that are already running.
Background: Anemia remains a significant public health issue, particularly among adolescent girls, due to its impact on cognitive development, productivity, and reproductive health. This study aims to investigate the association between anemia status and specific contributing factors—including nutritional status (underweight, overweight/obese), dietary intake (staple food and protein consumption), and socioeconomic status (parental education, pocket money)—among adolescent girls aged 12–18 years in Bekasi, Indonesia. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in 2018 across five high schools in Bekasi, involving 345 adolescent girls aged 12-18 years. Data were collected through food frequency questionnaires, anthropometric measurements, and hemoglobin level tests. Anemia was classified based on WHO guidelines. Statistical analysis included univariate, bivariate, and multivariate tests to identify significant predictors. Results: The prevalence of anemia among participants was 30.7% (95% CI: 25.9%–35.8%), with mild anemia being the most common type, accounting for 48.1% of anemic cases. Overweight or obese participants were significantly more likely to be anemic (OR = 3.52, 95% CI: 1.65–7.51, p = 0.001). Staple food consumption frequency also showed a significant association with anemia risk (OR = 1.75, 95% CI: 0.95–3.21, p = 0.070). However, no significant association was found between socioeconomic status and anemia. Conclusion: In conclusion, this study highlights the role of nutritional status and dietary patterns in anemia prevalence among adolescent girls. Public health interventions should focus on improving dietary quality and addressing both undernutrition and overnutrition. Future research should investigate the effectiveness of iron supplementation programs, the bioavailability of iron in staple diets, and the role of fortified school meals in reducing anemia risk in this population.

Background: Anxiety experienced by pregnant women can cause complications during pregnancy and childbirth that can occur in both the mother and the baby. Finger grip and breath relaxation therapy can lower systolic and diastolic blood pressure. One of the movements in yoga is relaxation by gripping fingers and regulating breathing. This movement relaxes the muscles so that it spreads the stimulus to the hypothalamus. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of yoga and hypnoprenatal classes on pregnant women with high risk of anxiety in pregnant women, before and after yoga and hypnoprenatal classes, in the treatment and control groups. Methods: This study used a quasi-experimental design with one group pretest posttest design. The sample in this study were pregnant women who met the inclusion criteria, namely pregnant women with a risk age of <20 and >35 years, parity >2, pregnant in the second and third trimesters at the Health Centers throughout Boalemo Regency. The sampling technique used stratified random. In this study, the sample used the proportion formula from Lameshow. The data collection technique uses the HARS scale instrument to measure the level of anxiety of pregnant women which has been tested for validity and reliability internationally. The test used is t dependent test. Results: Based on the mean value of maternal anxiety before and after giving yoga and hypnoprenatal classes is 0.612 and the standard deviation is 0.571. The results of the statistical test obtained a p-value of 0.000. HO is rejected, there is a difference in anxiety scores before and after yoga and hypnoprenatal classes. Conclusion: The conclusion is that there is an influence of yoga and hypnoprenatal classes on pregnant women with high risk of anxiety in pregnant women. There is a significant difference between anxiety before and after giving yoga and hypnoprenatal classes.
Introduction: Diarrhea cases in the Seribu Islands were recorded in 190 cases in 2021 and in 461 cases in 2022. The factors influencing the incidence of diarrhea are knowledge, attitudes and practices, clean water sources, and clean water quality. The aim of the study was to analyze factors related to the incidence of diarrhea in the Seribu Islands District. Methods: This study was conducted in the Seribu Islands District from February to August 2024. This study was an observational analysis with a case-control approach design. The respondent criteria include having a history of diarrhea in the South Seribu Islands District, as showed by a doctor's diagnosis and positive laboratory results for diarrhea from January to December 2022, and having resided there for more than six months. The case group was consisted of 37 samples and the control group consisted of 37 samples. The independent variables in this study were the biological, physical, and chemical quality of clean water, clean water sources, knowledge, attitudes, and practice. The collected data were analyzed using the chi-square and logistic regression test using SPSS software. Results: The variables of physical quality of clean water, clean water sources, knowledge and practices of respondents did not have a significant effect on the incidence of diarrhea (p>0.05). Meanwhile, the biological and chemical quality of clean water, and the respondents' attitudes had a significant effect on the incidence of diarrhea (p <0.05). Based on the results of the multivariate analysis, the biological quality of clean water had a significant effect (p = 0.001) with an odds ratio of 9.18. The most influential factor on the incidence of diarrhea is the biological quality of the clean water. Conclusion: The variables of knowledge, attitudes, practices, clean water sources, and physical and chemical quality of water showed no effect on the incidence of diarrhea (p value > 0.05). The biological quality of the water variable had an effect on the incidence of diarrhea (p value = 0.001), with an odds ratio of 9.18. Since E. coli-contaminated food and water contribute significantly to the spread of diarrheal illnesses in the community, it is crucial to monitor the quality of food and drinking water and to improve sanitation in order to reduce the prevalence of diarrhea, particularly in the Seribu Islands.
Introduction: This research aims to see the effect of modifying Melodic Intonation Therapy (MIT) and Dhikr Asmaul Husna in audio form on the speaking ability of stroke patients. Aphasia is a disability problem experienced by stroke patients and can become persistent, reducing their quality of life. Efforts are needed to improve speaking ability so patients can continuously and independently carry out post-stroke speech exercises at home. The results showed that MIT gave better results in improving the speech ability of stroke patients. In the MIT method, patients repeat words spoken by nurses or family members using musical elements while speaking. Methods: This type of research is quantitative with a quasi-experimental design pre and post-test. Researchers carry out interventions using media in the form of Melodic Intonation Therapy Audio (MIT-A), which results from research development. This study's population is stroke patients treated at Dr. Soekardjo Tasikmalaya Hospital, Prasetya Bunda Hospital, and Banjar City Hospital. The sample consisted of 33 respondents from three Tasikmalaya and Banjar City hospitals. Exercises start when the patient is treated and continue to be done at home. Speech ability was evaluated using the TADIR method (Aphasia Test for Diagnostics and Rehabilitation), assessed before the intervention and at the first control visit. The intervention was carried out for one month. The hypothesis in this study is that there is a difference in the average score of speech ability before and after the intervention. The t-dependent test tests the difference in TADIR scores before and after training. Results: The study showed a difference in the average TADIR score before and after training (p-value 0.000). This indicates that speech training using MIT-Audio has a significant effect on the speaking ability of stroke patients. Conclusion: The results of this study conclude that speech training through modified MIT in audio form improves the speaking ability of stroke patients who experience aphasia. The researcher recommends that future researchers apply this speech training media by differentiating the type of aphasia experienced by the patient.
Introduction: Hypertension during pregnancy is a common complication that increases the risk of preeclampsia, leading to maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality. Box breathing techniques have shown promise in lowering blood pressure and stress, but their effectiveness in pregnant women at risk of hypertension and preeclampsia has not been widely studied. This study aims to evaluate the efficacy of a prototype box breathing intervention in reducing blood pressure and symptoms in pregnant women at risk of these conditions. Methods: A quantitative, experimental study with a pretest-posttest design was conducted at four hospitals in Indonesia. A sample of 198 pregnant women in their 1st-3rd trimesters was selected using purposive sampling. The intervention involved the use of a prototype box breathing device, and data were collected on blood pressure and symptoms before and after the intervention. Data analysis was performed using the Wilcoxon test. Results: After the prototype box breathing intervention, there was a significant decrease in systolic blood pressure from 147.83 mmHg to 132.36 mmHg and diastolic blood pressure from 94.76 mmHg to 86.16 mmHg (p-value 0.000). The average symptom score also decreased from 5.93 to 1.25 following the intervention. Conclusion: The use of the prototype box breathing device is effective in lowering blood pressure and reducing symptoms associated with preeclampsia risk in pregnant women. This non-pharmacological intervention offers a promising approach for managing hypertension during pregnancy and preventing the progression to preeclampsia. Further research is needed to validate these findings and optimize the implementation of box breathing techniques in prenatal care.
Introduction: Data from the 2023 electronic recording and reporting system for community-based nutrition (e-PPGBM) shows a stunting rate of 15,2% in NTT, while the 2022 SSGI data reports a stunting rate of 35,3%. The accuracy of data on stunting cases is critical. To date, the Posyandu (integrated health post) in NTT still relies on manual data recording, which is collected at the Puskesmas (community health centers). The city of Kupang has implemented the e-PPGBM system since 2016, but user acceptance has not been fully assessed due to a lack of studies on the subject. Thus, an evaluation of the knowledge, attitudes, roles and also length of work of Posyandu cadres and the acceptance level of e-PPGBM operators in all Puskesmas in Kupang is necessary. Methods: This study was conducted in 11 Puskesmas in Kupang with 55 Posyandu cadres and 55 e-PPGBM operators as respondents. This study is a mixed- method research. The study used an observational method using questionnaires. System acceptance of e-PPGBM was measured using the HOT (Human-Organization-Technology) model, combined with aspects of regulation and benefits. Qualitative data were collected through in-depth interviews, while secondary data were obtained from e-PPGBM records in the Puskesmas from January to June 2024. Results: The evaluation of the knowledge, attitude, and role of the cadres in early detection of stunting was categorized as good. There was a significant correlation between length of work experience and knowledge (p = 0,036, r=0,036) and the attitude of the cadres (p = 0,034, r=0,054). The system acceptance measurement of e-PPGBM operators was categorized as good in the human aspect, and very good in the organization, technology, knowledge, regulation, and benefit aspects, with correlations found between all variables. Conclusion: Posyandu cadres in Kupang have not yet used the e-PPGBM application, monthly recordings at the Posyandu are still manual, and the application is entirely managed by nutrition officers at the Puskesmas. Limited internet access is a major challenge in using the application. Training is needed to involve cadres in using the application, alongside infrastructure improvements (internet network, PCs, and laptops) at both the Posyandu and Puskesmas levels
Introduction: Dysmenorrhea is a reproductive health problem that is often experienced by adolescent girls and requires special attention from midwives. To overcome this, effective health promotion is needed. In this digital era, the use of mobile devices is increasing, including easy-to-access website access, so that searches can be done anytime and anywhere for information. Midwives can take advantage of this opportunity to conduct health promotion, one of which is by using the website as a means to provide information related to dysmenorrhea. A common problem faced by teenage girls is dysmenorrhea, which requires serious attention from midwives. Appropriate health promotion, including media, must be attractive and accessible quickly and easily. The purpose of this study was to know the feasibility of a website-based educational media design for adolescent girls regarding the early treatment of dysmenorrhea. The field test was conducted at SMK Negeri 1 Tasikmalaya City in April - May 2023. Data collection was carried out using interview methods and filling out questionnaires. The feasibility test was carried out by media experts and material experts. Results: The results of this Research and Development are website-based educational media "Sahabat Dysmenorrhea" which contains dysmenorrhea and early treatment of dysmenorrhea. In the validity test, an average percentage of 92% was obtained from material experts with a very feasible category and an average percentage of 88% from media experts with a very feasible category. The results of the small group trial were 94.24% with a very feasible category and the results of the field trial were 90.07% with a very feasible category. Conclusion: From the results of this study, it can be concluded that the “Sahabat Dysmenorrhea” website is very suitable for use as an educational media health promotion in dealing with dysmenorrhea in adolescent girls student.
Introduction: Malaria vaccines show significant potential for disease control but face challenges, including declining efficacy over time and resistance to drugs and insecticides. Despite the initial success of vaccines like RTS,S/AS01, an integrated approach is still needed to address malaria’s complex transmission dynamics across endemic regions. This review examines the current status, challenges, and future prospects of malaria vaccine development, focusing on the impact of combining pre-erythrocytic vaccines and transmission-blocking drugs using mathematical modeling to enhance their effectiveness in reducing transmission. Methods: A systematic literature review was conducted using the PICO framework to evaluate the effectiveness of malaria vaccines in reducing disease transmission. The review included studies involving vulnerable populations, particularly children in African countries. It compared the effectiveness of malaria vaccines with other control strategies, such as insecticide-treated bed nets and antimalarial drugs. Five relevant primary journals were analyzed using databases like PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar. Results: Findings reveal that newly developed malaria vaccines have significant potential to reduce malaria cases. However, large-scale implementation and regular vaccination strategies are required for sustained effectiveness. Genetic studies highlight the emergence of resistance, emphasizing the need for adaptable vaccines and strategies. Conclusion: Malaria vaccines, while promising, face obstacles such as waning efficacy and resistance. A combined strategy involving vaccines and transmission-blocking treatments is essential for global malaria elimination. Further research and strategic implementation are needed to optimize vaccine effectiveness and overcome these challenges.
Introduction: The government has implemented various efforts to address nutritional issues, one of which is the issuance of Presidential Regulation No. 42 of 2013. This regulation governs the National Movement for the Acceleration of Nutrition Improvement, involving collective efforts by the government and stakeholders. To achieve substantial results, stunting reduction efforts must be integrated and converge across multiple sectors. This study aims to describe the collaboration process in stunting reduction, which presents significant challenges in implementation. Methods: A qualitative method with an interactive data-analysis approach was used in this study. The analysis involved three key stages: data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. Results: The study revealed that the collaboration process begins with face-to-face dialogue, fostering trust and leading to a commitment to the process. This is achieved through mutual understanding and shared benefits. While face-to-face dialogue is progressing, the involvement of diverse stakeholders remains limited. Nevertheless, the actors involved demonstrate mutual trust, a shared vision, and commitment to a joint agenda. In Central Buton Regency, collaboration is essential to address stunting effectively. Conclusion: The study concludes that while face-to-face meetings involve key parties, broader stakeholder participation, such as community leaders, is still lacking. However, mutual trust and a shared vision among existing participants highlight the importance of multisectoral involvement in reducing stunting prevalence
Introduction: There are several problems commonly experienced by women during the postpartum period, in the form of physical, psychological, social and sexual problems due to drastic hormonal changes.
