Study Objective: This study aims to uncover the barriers that inhibit women college athletes in the Global South from pursuing professional sports careers. Focusing on Pakistan as a case study, it interrogates how intersecting gendered, cultural, and institutional forces shape women’s sporting experiences and restrict their long-term athletic trajectories. Methodology/approach: Grounded theory was employed as a qualitative research approach through semi-structured interviews with 14 women college athletes from diverse sporting disciplines across Pakistan. Originality/Relevance: By situating Pakistan within a broader Global South context, the study offers new insights into how localized sociocultural and institutional forces intersect to limit women’s access to athletic labor markets and professional sports careers. Main Results: Eight interrelated barriers were identified and grouped into three overarching themes: structural barriers (perceived harassment, contextual limitations, and gender disparities), familial barriers (restrictive family norms and marital constraints), and sociocultural barriers (limited female identity, social constraints, and religious expectations). Theoretical/Methodological Contributions: This study advances theoretical engagement by integrating intersectionality theory and Bourdieu’s concepts of capital, field, and habitus to interpret how women athletes internalize and resist social constraints
Study objective: To examine how the Bundesliga's "50+1" rule affects stadium occupancy and to advance a conceptual hypothesis about how deeper forms of fan ownership may further strengthen attendance. Methodology/Approach: Quantitative study of 1,670 observations from the top ten European leagues (2010-2019). We estimate linear regressions of stadium capacity utilization on a dummy for clubs under the "50+1" rule, controlling for GDP per capita, GDP growth, unemployment, and inflation, combining stadium attendance and capacity data with World Bank macroeconomic indicators. Originality/Relevance: The study responds to a predominantly qualitative football governance literature by providing cross-league evidence on the effects of a community-oriented ownership model and formulating a theoretical hypothesis that ownership depth serves as a mechanism linking community logic and fan engagement. Main Results: Clubs governed under the "50+1" rule display, on average, an 11.4-percentage-point higher stadium capacity utilization than other clubs, while GDP per capita is a strong positive predictor of attendance. Short-term macroeconomic fluctuations and labor-market conditions show limited additional explanatory power. Theoretical/methodological contributions: Theoretically, the article shows how embedding community logic into formal ownership structures supports higher fan engagement under commercialization pressures; methodologically, it illustrates the value of combining sports data with macroeconomic indicators in a cross-league comparative design. Social/management contributions: For club executives and regulators, the findings highlight that ownership arrangements are not merely legal or financial choices, but institutional design decisions that shape the ability to convert potential demand into realized attendance and to preserve the social role of clubs in their communities.
Objective: To identify the attributes that determine the decision of road runners to participate in paid events in Brazil. Relevance: Due to the increasing professionalization and commercialization of road running events, recent studies have sought to understand participants' motivations and perceptions using marketing and consumer behavior approaches. Methodology: A qualitative, exploratory approach was used, involving 20 interviews with regular road runners who had participated in at least one paid event in the last twelve months. Data analysis through content analysis. Theoretical Contributions: To understand the choice attributes considered by road runners when participating in paid events, an theme little explored in the literature in Brazil. This article differentiates itself by categorizing attributes and revealing how they are perceived by runners, going beyond motivational trends. Main results: The results show that participant choice goes beyond tangible aspects, being strongly influenced by emotional and social factors, including event organization, safety, post-race recognition, and a sense of belonging to the running community. Social Contributions/Management: Promoting sports encourages healthy habits, aligns with public health strategies aimed at preventing disease and improving the population's quality of life, and contributes to the local economy through sports tourism and event organization.
Study objective: To analyze the social, sporting, and leisure impacts on the local population resulting from the construction of the MRV Arena, considering the influence of public policies on the project's design. Methodology/approach: Qualitative research based on unstructured guided interviews with key informants, supplemented by bibliographic and documentary research. The data were treated by content analysis, organized into two categories: Public Policies and Social, Sports, and Leisure Impacts. Originality/Relevance: Although the management of sports arenas is a field with a growing number of publications, the social and environmental impacts of the construction of new arenas in Brazil remain largely unexplored. This study contributes to filling this gap by analyzing a recent and complex case. Main results: The MRV Arena project presented significant environmental challenges, requiring studies such as EIA and EIV and the adoption of 84 conditions, including the expansion of green areas, a linear park, and social facilities such as a language center and health center. The creation of the Galo Institute stood out as a vector for social and sports actions, with projects such as the School of the Future, impacting more than 136,000 people. Theoretical/methodological contributions: It is evident that public policies were essential driving forces (vectors) in establishing a balanced course of action between legislation and project objectives, aiming to minimize negative impacts and maximize social benefits. Social/management contributions: Environmental and social compensation measures were decisive in promoting change in the community, providing urban infrastructure, green spaces, and sports programs, setting a benchmark for future projects in Brazil.

Objective of the study: This work sought to describe the validation process of the GENAE (Gestão de Entidades Nacionais de Administração do Esporte/Management of National Sports Administration Entities) instrument, a tool for systematizing data from private sports entities in Brazil (Confederations, Federations, Clubs, and other non-profit Organizations). Methodology/approach: The validation employed a mixed approach, including analysis of legislation and literature (qualitative bases), and internal and external validation with the calculation of the Content Validity Coefficient (quantitative bases). Originality/Relevance: With the enactment of the General Sports Law (Lei Geral do Esporte), the National Sports System and the National System of Sports Information and Indicators were established. These facts highlighted the need to consolidate instruments that could enable such systematization, both for information and for sporting entities. While an instrument directed at public sports management entities has already been developed and validated, the GENAE (Management of National Sports Administration Entities) aims to survey data from private entities. Main results: The final version of the instrument has 100 questions, organized into six dimensions: Entity Data, Human Resources, Facilities, Sports Culture, Actions, and Governance. The external validation process, involving 10 specialists, resulted in a total Content Validity Coefficient (CVCt) of 0.91424, confirming its adequacy and potential use for systematizing data from private sports entities in the country. Theoretical/methodological contributions: The consolidation of this instrument is a fundamental aspect for the advancement of Brazilian sports and for the establishment of the National Sports System and the National System of Sports Information and Indicators.
Objectives: identify and analyze the S & atilde;o Paulo Futebol Clube's (SPFC) capacity to generate and distribute added value from 2018 to 2023, using the Statement of Value Added (DVA). Methodology/approach: A single-case, descriptive, exploratory, documentary study collected SPFC's DVA data from its transparency portal, tabulated them in Excel, and them analyzed via horizontal difference indices, comparing pre (2018-2019), during-(2020-2021), and post-pandemic (2022-2023) periods. Originality/Relevance: This study fills a gap by examining wealth generation by Brazilian football clubs during the pandemic, positioning DVA as a transparency and social responsibility tool. Main results: The pandemic slashed 2020 revenues, especially ticketing, with 2021-2022 recovery driven by player transfers and matchday, surging 60% in 2023 after the. Wealth primarily benefited, but significant creditor allocations reflected debt challenges. A 44.4% rise in Value Added Received in Transfer (VRT) in 2020 indicated external dependence, while salary cuts supported recovery. Theoretical and Methodological Contributions: Theoretically, it advances DVA literature for sports entities; methodologically, it innovates with longitudinal analysis and horizontal difference indices; socially, it highlights the role of clubs in wealth redistribution.
Objective of the study: This article examines the effect of negative experiences on expectations of the services offered by fitness centers. Methodology/approach: The methodological design consists of three phases: variable selection, refinement, and validation, development of a research instrument, and use of structural equation modeling. To this end, the study is based on responses collected from 362 gym customers in the local market. Originality/Relevance: Understanding the dynamics of consumer expectation formation is a fundamental and critical step in offering excellent services. Therefore, this study follows this path by investigating an antecedent of expectations: negative experiences. Main results: The results indicate that consumers tend to expect lower levels of service when they observe errors in service delivery. Negative experiences inevitably lead to disappointment and dissatisfaction, leading to a lower level of tolerance among customers. Therefore, the findings help managers better understand the expectation formation process and allow them to design services more aligned with consumer desires. Theoretical and practical implications: The study reveals theoretical and practical contributions. Advances in the literature focus on examining the dimensions that affect consumer expectations and the relationships between them. The research expands the discussion about which factors explain possible changes in expectation patterns, testing negative experiences as an antecedent. In this regard, there is empirical support for the main findings.
Study objective: this article analyzes the duties and experiences of former managers who served as national secretaries in the Ministry of Sports between 2003 and 2018. Originality and relevance: the study innovates by analyzing the experiences of national secretaries of the extinct Ministry of Sports, offering a historical perspective on the management of public sports and leisure policies in Brazil. The research is relevant for documenting and analyzing a significant period of federal sports administration, contributing to understanding the challenges and advances in the institutionalization of these policies. Main results: the results show that the position of national secretary demanded multiple competencies, from resource management to intersectoral articulation. The structural challenges faced stand out, such as budgetary and personnel limitations, as well as the importance of PELC and PST programs in democratizing access to sports and leisure. The study indicates that, despite difficulties, there were advances in the institutionalization of public sports and leisure policies during the analyzed period. Theoretical-methodological contributions: The study broadens the understanding of managers' role in implementing public sports and leisure policies.
Purpose: The present study aims to determine how the fan's specific curiosity, team identification, and fan satisfaction influence the intention to purchase the team's products and attend their games. Methodology: Data were collected from a sample of 499 respondents. The research sample mainly consists of young individuals, with an average age of 29.7 years, and 67.2% of the sample falling between 18 and 30 years old. As an analysis method, Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) was employed. Originality: The model proposed for study in this research provides a novel contribution to academia, particularly in the field of sports management, specifically sports marketing, as it introduces new relationships not yet explored by other researchers, considering the constructs analyzed. Main results: Fan curiosity plays a crucial role in how fans identify with the team, influencing their intention to buy team products or attend games. Additionally, fan satisfaction influences purchase intentions and game-attending intentions. Hence, there exists a clear relationship between these constructs in both models. Theoretical/methodological contributions: This research contributed to increase the knowledge about the behavior of the soccer fan in Brazil, especially with regard to their behavior in the intention to purchase products and intention to attend games. This research also examined various types of intentions - to purchase products and to attend games of the preferred team – of fans, a concept not previously explored in a single study with the same sample.
Objective of the study: To understand the influence of dimensions of value perception such as emotional aspects, price, perceived quality, reputation, and intention to repurchase the services of three gyms with different business models in the southern region of Brazil. Methodology/approach: We conducted a survey with 422 individuals attending gyms. Data were analyzed by multiple linear regression Originality/Relevance: The gym sector in Brazil has been growing constantly, with the majority being micro and small companies with different models, suggesting increased competition and diversification of strategies for maintaining customers. In this context, understanding which elements influence the intention to repurchase services becomes essential to increase customer retention. Main results: The results indicate significant variation between the gyms analyzed, with the perceived quality and value of the service being the main predictors in Gym A, while emotional service stands out in Gym B. Gym C, in turn, presents a challenging scenario, where reputation exerts a negative influence on repurchase intention, despite value and emotional service being positive factors. Theoretical/methodological contributions: The analysis suggests that each academy's strategies must be adapted to its target audience and the competitive environment in which it operates.
Research objective: identifying actions Brazilian football clubs took in search of financial balance during the Covid-19 pandemic. Methodoly/approach: a documentary analysis of descriptive bias and a quantitative approach was carried out in financial reports and information related to the measures adopted by the clubs. Originality/relevance: football management is a topic that has been gaining ground in the scientific community in recent years, but there is still a lack of research addressing its various aspects. This study seeks to contribute to the understanding of how the management of brazilian football clubs responded to some emergency challenges caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. Results: the main results indicate that the actions adopted by the clubs were mostly of an emergency nature and mainly included cutting costs and expenses and maintaining and attracting members. Theoretical/methodological contributions: the findings of this study reinforce the importance of investment in management in the pursuit of financial sustainability for clubs, including preparing for possible adverse events similar to the Covid-19 pandemic that may still occur in the future.
Objective of the study: The objective was to verify the existence of moderation of the familiarity with the national destination and the involvement with games in the relations of influence between two destination images, considering an Olympics context. Research methods: A quantitative survey was conducted through structured questionnaires with a sample of 340 foreign respondents. Data analysis took place through the structural equations modeling technique. Originality/Relevance: The Olympics' and destination image's literature on the variables mentioned have been considering only the impact on a specific destination, this study contributes to investigate the moderation of the variables in the relations of two destinations. Results and Findings: The familiarity with the national destination and the involvement with the games did not exercise impact in the relation of influence between host city and national destination images investigated. Theoretical/methodological contributions: There was no overflow of the effect of familiarity with the national destination or involvement with the games in the influence of the national destination on the host city and vice versa. This leads to believe that, no matter the level of familiarity with the national destination or involvement with the games, the image of the sport mega-event host city influenced the image of the national destination in the same way. Social/management contributions: Investigating variables that may interfere in the connected destination relationship further contributes to better image management of the destinations involved, mainly considering a background of a sports mega-event, context in which the image of the location gains worldwide projection.
Study aims: To investigate the constitution of an academic agenda as a theoretical-practical guide in which imperatives and grammars are/are systematized, enabling distinct works/publications to converge in common places, aiming to produce effects on gym business area managers and management. Methodology/approach: A qualitative investigation was carried out, implementing a pragmatic sociology approach, taking the 25 selected works as theoretical-practical guides, in which we sought to identify imperatives that drive the productions and grammars of action. Originality/relevance: The study demonstrates originality through its theoretical-methodological approach and its contribution to existing debates regarding professional training for gym management, showcasing the works in action, beyond categorical structures. Main results: Three imperatives that drive the knowledge production agenda and four sources of coordination of action grammars were identified as conditions to be met to produce the effects of collectivization. Theoretical-methodological contributions: The work contributes by showing how the works, with their differences, manage to converge on common points and, regarding these, point out necessary conditions to be met.
