Objective: To characterize various ways of occurrence of lifestyle entrepreneurship (LE) in tourism and sports with real examples, highlighting promising paths for its study using theories from the field of entrepreneurship, and to encourage researchers to publish more on these subjects. Methodology/Approach: An essay based on a review of relevant literature and the use of real examples and a central fictional example drawn from the authors' research experiences and personal activities. Originality/Relevance: The editorial uses new arguments and foundations, uniquely characterizing the importance and need for research on the connections between lifestyle entrepreneurship (LE), sports, and tourism with theories from the field of entrepreneurship - specifically effectuation and bricolage. Contributions: The editorial calls for new studies and publications, taking advantage of the opportunities and potential contributions of research on LE using effectuation and entrepreneurial bricolage theories. It also anticipates and facilitates the positioning and exploration of these future studies, besides offering examples and useful explanations which are useful for learning about these topics.
This teaching case shows how entrepreneurial bricolage, a way of reusing what one has at hand and doing a lot with little, occurs in entrepreneurship under conditions of resource constraints. Thus, the case favors understanding the use of entrepreneurial bricolage in practice. It is recommended for entrepreneurs facing resource constraints and for all other individuals interested in learning about entrepreneurship and management. Its main contributions are (1) raising awareness of the importance of knowing costs in business operation and frequently evaluating business viability, (2) facilitating learning about how to creatively undertake in situations of resource constraints, in a simple way and doing a lot with little, and (3) demonstrating that entrepreneurship is within reach for many people, as long as they have at least some ability to make do with what they have. These contributions are particularly relevant for contexts of scarcity, underdevelopment, poverty, and crisis, as commonly seen in Brazil, contexts where it is necessary to do a lot with little and make better use of what is already available.

Objective: This theoretical essay examines the processes by which crises are experienced and managed by entrepreneurs, with a particular focus on the role of effectuation. Problem: The nature, intensity, and duration of crises vary, exerting pressure on organizations and entrepreneurs. In order to respond effectively, it is necessary to develop quick, ingenious solutions that are adapted to the context of uncertainty and lack of resources. However, there is a lack of clarity regarding the occurrence of crises for entrepreneurs and the strategies they employ to cope with them. Originality: The study, based on a characterization of crises and their diversity, delves more profoundly into the ways in which entrepreneurs cope with crises and the extent to which effectuation is (or fails to be) useful in such coping. It illuminates the micro and macro levels of crises and the nuances in responses to them. Social/management contributions: In addition to presenting new research conclusions, the essay proposes a research agenda for prospective publications that seek to address humanity's significant challenges.
Objective: Given the recurrence of issues related to conducting interviews in qualitative research, as well as note-taking and preliminary data analysis during them, this editorial aims to explore the literature and our experience to highlight these problems and suggest ways to overcome them. Methods: Review of the literature and use of our own experiences, in a well-founded manner and with examples, in arguments, explanations, and useful recommendations for improving research. Originality/Relevance: The editorial details justifications and methods for ways of conducting interviews, taking notes, and performing preliminary analyses during them, particularly in the semi-structured interview format. These notes and analyses are often overlooked even in specialized publications, but fundamental care regarding them is necessary to enhance the quality, depth, and potential contribution of qualitative interviews. Contributions: We provide numerous bibliographic references and useful recommendations for (future) researchers. The references, descriptions, and recommendations on interviews, note-taking, and data analysis help to access the best potential of informants, interviewers, data, and results.

The study aimed to analyze the existing literature on the identity of the entrepreneur in connection with effectuation, characterizing the state of the art of research on the subject. A systematic literature review was carried out, which searched for publications indexed by Scopus (23 articles) and Web of Science (37 articles) from the last 21 years, being operationalized with the StArt tool. The results show that, with effectuation, the identity of the entrepreneur influences decisions, the type of opportunity explored, the objectives and the commitment of partners in the entrepreneurial process. It is concluded that, with effectuation, personal and social identities can guide effectual (intuitive) or causal (planned) behavior, which shapes the entrepreneurial activities.
Objective: To synthesize empirical research results about effectuation responses to crises with the intention of offering results that are already potentially useful for new research and the practice of entrepreneurs.Methodology/approach: With a systematic literature review (SLR), publications on the subject were mapped, highlighting mainly their contributions, but also registering their research methods, their foundations and the types of crises studied. The treated articles come from the Scopus and Web of Science article databases.Originality/value: Applying a thematic focus that was not yet used before, but that is necessary, the study contributes for the understanding of the entrepreneurial behavior supported on effectuation in crisis contexts.Main results: The SLR identified 14 articles dealing with three types of crises (financial, regarding health and natural crises) responded using effectuation indicating a tendency to the growth of the number of publications about the focused subject. Research needs and paths were characterized to be exploited in new researches.Theoretical/methodological contributions: Central contributions are the description of relations between the effectual principals (bird in hand, affordable loss, crazy quilt, lemonade, and pilot in the plane) and effectuation use in response to three types of crises and the synthetic characterization of relevant publications about the focused subject, which constitutes a facilitator for more researchers interested in the same subject.Social/management contributions: Social actors and managers can use the contents of this article to better understand how the response to crises using effectuation is being carried out in real situations studied in the identified articles of the SLR. This way, their repertoire of useful knowledge to more successfully act in entrepreneurship in the face of crises will be broader.
This teaching case presents the trajectory of the Belone brothers and their fruit and vegetable producing and exporting company, highlighting elements of entrepreneurship, strategy, strategic management, entrepreneurial skills and exports linked to a small business. The text reports the unusual journey of entrepreneurs, who identified better conditions for business development in the international market than in the Brazilian market. It is more common in the Brazilian literature on entrepreneurship the case of doing business only in the national territory.
Objectives: (1) to describe the research conducted by the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM), (2) to map its use in Brazilian publications, and (3) to exemplify its application in public policies and other forms of support for entrepreneurship in different countries. Methodology: It is a bibliographic survey of Brazilian studies supplemented by examples of GEM use in other countries. Main findings: Some types of data and results usage from GEM prevail: citations in the theoretical framework or in the introduction/contextualization of published studies; inclusion in the final list of references, but not in the main text; and indirect reference through the citation of previous studies that used GEM. The finding of Gimenez and Inácio Júnior (2017) of a lower presence of GEM data usage for specific studies in the surveyed articles was replicated. Relevance/originality: The historical background of GEM implementation in Brazil is presented, along with the update of results in Brazilian entrepreneurship studies and examples of GEM's impact on the formulation of actions and public policies in various countries. Theoretical-methodological contributions: The scarcity of more sophisticated uses of GEM's database in Brazilian studies is indicated. Therefore, it is recommended to explore its longitudinal data and to increase the number of studies exploring GEM in addressing specific entrepreneurship topics, as well as to expand the use of GEM data to guide the formulation and monitoring of public policies.
Objective: This essay aims to point out impediments to Schumpeterianism and the potential of the non-Schumpeterian ways regarding effectuation and bricolage to overcome crises. Methodology/approach: This is an essay based on the literature available mainly on effectuation and entrepreneurial bricolage as well as on empirical data from semi-structured interviews using qualitative methods. Main results: The text argues that the effectuation and bricolage approaches are particularly appropriate and useful for overcoming resource constraints, including their aggravation during crises. With the use of examples and a real empirical case, it constitutes a basis for further studies and dissemination of knowledge and can be useful as an inspiration for a more conscious, disseminated and perfected use of these non-Schumpeterian ways in entrepreneurship. Theoretical/methodological contributions: The study offers arguments, a theoretical framework with elements of a literature review and empirical data conducive to new promising research on effectuation and bricolage. Relevance/originality: The essay presents promising conceptual relationships and aspects of reality that are frequent and relevant, but not yet explored in national and international studies, in particular because it deals with effectuation and bricolage as ways of overcoming resource limitation and crises in lifestyle entrepreneurship (LE) and social entrepreneurship. Social/management contributions: Generation of greater awareness regarding the importance and need for research and use of entrepreneurial effectuation and bricolage, providing useful practices for doing a lot with little, overcoming resource limitations and overcoming crises.
This research aimed to identify threats experienced by women entrepreneurs, in order to understand how they react and to analyze the behaviors that allow them to overcome these threats for the survival of their businesses. The research is qualitative, exploratory in nature, and semi-structured interviews were used for data collection. Sixty-five entrepreneurs in the Network of Women Entrepreneurs in Brazil participated in the study. Lexicographic analysis and content analysis were used with the use of software Atlas-ti. Identification of four types of threats: a) Conflict of Social Roles; b) Affective Threats; c) Threats from Patriarchy; and, d) Threats to business. The overcoming behaviors were: a) Resilience, b) Use of the Masculine Vigor Network, and, c) Communication with Negotiation. The results showed the potential and strength of women in overcoming adverse, hostile, and embarrassing conditions to keep themselves engaged in the continuity of their businesses. The typology of threats and the behaviors to overcome them consider causes and impacts of the family, economic, and social environments. The results contribute epistemologically and open perspectives to initiatives to support female entrepreneurs, such as the development of public policies.
