
632 An Experimental Investigation on Performance and Emissions of a Single Cylinder D.I Diesel Engine with Manifold Hydrogen Induction Haroun A.K. Abood Department of Automobile Engineering, College of Engineering/Al-Musaib, Babylon University edashasfor@yahoo.com Abstract Hydrogen is a clean fuel for internal combustion engines as it produces only water vapor and nitrogen oxides when it burns. In this research, hydrogen is used as a blending fuel with diesel to reduce pollutants emission and to improve performance. It is inducted in the inlet manifold, (continuous manifold induction), which is of a single cylinder, four stroke, direct injection, variable compression ratio water cold diesel engine, type (Kirloskar). This technique of hydrogen blending is selected because of its simplicity and low cost. Hydrogen blending is built on the basis of energy replacement. A special electronic unit is designed and fabricated to control hydrogen blending ratio. The maximum achieved ratio is 30% of input energy and beyond that the engine operation becomes unsatisfactory. Tests are done with 17.5 compression ratio and 1500 rpm. The brake specific fuel consumption is reduced by 29% and the engine thermal efficiency increased by 16% at these operating conditions. The pollutant emissions of carbon oxides, UHC, and smoke opacity are dramatically decreased by 19.5%, 13%,and 45% respectively while NOx emission increased by 10%.

Wais Kirkuk Technical College/ Northern Technical University / Iraq musamec@yahoo.com Abstract: In the present study, an experimental investigation is carried out to calculate heat transfer coefficient from the change in position of a finned tube in the cross-flow heat exchanger in two different conditions, which are a constant temperature at 90C and constant heat flux at 45W/m. A standard laboratory device (crossflow heat exchanger) was used in experiment process, that which manufactured by EDIBON company. The air flow over finned tubes inside heat exchanger was studied at Reynolds number ranging from 3600 to 11600. The comparative of experiments results between two cases shows that the Nu number in four positions at the constant temperature condition are higher than symmetrical positions in constant heat flux. The results indicated that the position3 gives higher values of Nu number in both cases.
579 Superintendenceof Bit Dullness Using a New Technique for Nasriya Oil Wells Rafid Kadhim Abbas Faculty of Engineering,University of Al-Qadisiya, , Al-Diwaniya city, 58002, Iraq, Rafid.Abbas@qu.edu.iq , Rafid.1972@gmail.com Abstract The present researchconcentrates on the surveillance of the bit tooth wear using a new formula that merged the classic formula of specific energy produced by Rabia with the equation of threeabrasive wear found by Rabinowicztaking into account the effect of lithology of the rock formation as well as the materials that the drill bits are made from.Drilling parameters also have significant influence on the predicted wear and therefore, they have to be involved in the prediction of the drill bit tooth dullness.The new attempt is applied on threedeep oil wells in Nasriya field southern Iraq. Three body abrasion phenomena took place while the bit is drilling the rock formations, therefore, it should be used as a concept for the wear prediction. The ratio of hardness of the rock over that of the bit has a great effect on the determination of the bit tooth wear. In this work, a new formula of specific energy is compared with the specific energy produced by Rabia along with the depth in the presence of the actual bit tooth wear taken from the bit records ofthreedeep wells inNasriya field. This research is done to find a reliable formula for the prediction of bit tooth dullness, especially that relevant researcheson Nasriyawells areunavailable in the literature.
The present study aimed to evaluate the nutritional status of children aged (1-20months old) and compared the study with three other studies done in 1952, 1962, and 1982. The study was conducted in Primary Health Care Center of Babylon Quarter in Hilla City throughout the period of March 2000 to the end of March 2001. The sample was comprised of 2000 child aged 1-20 months old. Data was collected through the use of Weight-for-Age indicator depending on the study of UNICEF (1997) at the Primary Health Centers through Polio National Immunization Days (PNID) in Iraq. Analysis of data was performed through the application of descriptive and inferential statistics. The study result revealed that there were no significant differences among the present study and the other three studies during the lst six months of age, but there is a significant difference after the six months of age. The study also indicated that insuficient milk was the main reason for stopped breast feeding among mothers shared in the present study. The study recommended that mothers must be attended a nutritional education programs in order to increase their knowledge and practices, also breast feeding may be encourage in all Iraqi P.H.C.
Regenerative medicine focuses on using biomaterials as three-dimensional (3D) porous scaffolds, specifically designed to mimic the nature of host tissue and hence to promote cell growth and tissue regeneration. 3D bioactive glass-ceramic scaffolds are one of the most frequently studied types of scaffolds for bone tissue engineering because of their excellent bioactivity and potential for stimulating osteogenesis and angiogenesis. For such purposes, porous 3D 70%SiO2-30%CaO bioactive glass-ceramic scaffolds with three different pore sizes and identical porosity are used in present study to investigate In vitro, the effect of pore size on the degradation rate of scaffold which is achieved through examining changes in the composition of the immersion solution(SBF, simulated body fluid), and to investigate the action of released ions from the bioactive glass-ceramic scaffold during soaking process on osteoblast cells The results confirmed that all three scaffolds behaved in a similar manner and the ions release from the three scaffolds were of comparable concentration, which may be attributable to the identical porosity for all the scaffolds in addition to the using static immersion which delays ions diffusion. The pH of culture media increased from 7.6 to 8.2 after one day soaking. The optical microscopy images demonstrated that high ion concentration (Si, Ca, P) in the culture medium could have a negative effect on the cells and induce cell death, while low concentration of ionic dissolution products induces osteoblast proliferation in dilute culture medium.
The study aimed to determine immune status of patients with respect to Streptococcus pyogenes. The present study was conducted to determine antibody against Group A Streptococcus (GAS) in serum of children patients suffer from tonsillitis and pharyngitis. A total of 260 samples (197 blood samples and 260 throat swab) was collected from 260 patients, 169 (65 %) of them were males and 91 (35%) were females suffering from Tonsillitis and pharyngitis. The results indicated that most age groups 213years being susceptible for tonsillitis in children, were among the recurrent tonsillitis and the males were more susceptible and response to infection compared with females. The study included two main parts. The first one was the bacterial diagnosis based on relied diagnostic procedure (classical and advance which involved Api 20 Strep and Viteck 2 system). The second part was the detection of antistreptolysin O (ASO) by using a latex agglutination test. The throat swabs culture from patients conducted its Lancefield group to suggest group A. The results observed that GABH (3.07%) Streptococcus pyogenes, while the rest other bacteria 252 (96.92 %) group as other bacteria from total study samples (260).
This paper estimates the sound and flow generated by a turbulent air flow in a duct from the knowledge of mean quantities (average velocity and sound pressure level).The sound excitation by fluid flow through duct can be used to predict fluid behavior. This behavior can be carried out by discovering the relation between sound excitation and fluid flow parameters like Reynolds number, Strouhal number and frequencies of turbulent fluid flow. However, the fluid flow container stability has to be taken in account simultaneously with fluid flow effect on sound generation and propagation. The experimental system used in this work is air flow through subsonic wind tunnel duct.The sound pressure levels of air flows through test section of subsonic wind tunnel (at three air flow velocities2.5, 7.3 and 12.5 m/s) respectively were carried out experimentally. The sound excitation or generation by air flow throughout the test section of subsonic wind tunnel without any obstruction can't be used to imagine the fluid behavior. To predict fluid flow properties,an infinite cylinder was immersed in order to obstruct the air flow and generate a new source of sound.This case is relevant to a wide range of engineering applications including aircraft landing gear, rail pantographs and automotive side-mirrors. Sound measurements have been taken in an anechoic room at Babylon University. ANSYS program software is used to simulate all experimental results.The experimental and theoretical data that were presented in this paper will give further insight into the underlying sound generation mechanism.In the presented work, the linkage between sound generation and CFD results using thepresented work results and ANSYS simulation results was done.The results discuss the effects of fluid flow parameters such as Reynolds and Strouhal numbers on the sound generation, propagation features and vice-versa. The results are compared with other researchers which give good agreements.
In this study was chosen Rhodamine 610, It was dissolved in ethanol and prepared in concentrations 10 5 ) mole/liter, the absorption and emission spectra of different samples dyes as a laser medium effectively has been prepared and studied at room temperature . The achieved Results pointed that the absorption peaks were moving toward short wavelengths (BLUE SHIFT) when increasing the ratio of polymer additives and the fluorescence spectrum peaks were moving in the direction of longer wavelengths (RED SHIFT) when increasing the ratio (%50 and %70) of polymer. The laser dyes can be categorized into different classes by virtue of their structures that are chemically similar. Common examples are the coumarins, xanthenes and pyrromethenes. The structure and composition of the molecule has an important influence on spectral emission. [Shankarling, 2010]. Moreover, polymers have become profitable for sensor technologies, because of their low cost materials and their fabrication techniques being quite simple. In the past few decades significant interest has been shown in polymer-based sensing materials, which exhibit a change of their absorption and/or fluorescence characteristics in response to an external stimulus. Some examples of these stimuli include heat, deformation, chemicals, light, and others, which make the sensors useful for a wide range of technologies [Crenshaw, 2007]. An important member in the family of poly (acrylic esters) is poly (methyl methacrylate) (PMMA). Although PMMA has a poor heat resistance [Sadek, 2011], it has been widely used in many fields, because of its outstanding chemical stability, transparent optical property, and excellent biocompatibility. It can incorporate dye molecules to become colorful and functional. Indeed, incorporating dyes into polymer supported matrices, such as PMMA, could keep them far away from the disturbance of external environments, which remarkably influences the spectral properties of dyes, [Wang, 2011]. This study was carried out to estimate the concentration of colanic Acid in the urine samples obtained from 66 patients with hematuria , where (21 ) patients with microscopic hematuria , (32) patients with gross hematuria , and (13) patients with terminal hematuria . Also , (15) healthy individuals with no history of hematuria were included in this study as control group. The results of this study showed that colanic acid was detected at high levels in (10) patients with microscopic hematuria and in (16) patients with gross hematuria where the results are above the control group ( 27± 9.0 and 18.0 ± 3.9 respectively) where as the urine samples of patients with terminal hematuria had normal levels similar to that in control group. Malonyldialdehyde (MDA) was also estimated in the urine of patients with hematuria . The results of MDA were not significant although some patients showed high levels for this parameter in their urine samples.
In this study, the collection of blood samples from 100 students in Babylon university college of Science for women for the period from 11/2012 to 10/2013 and separated serum for the purpose of diagnosis of infection with Toxoplasma gondii and immunological testing. The current study showed that the infection rate reached 46% of the total samples tested were highest infection rate in the age group 19-23 years and have had the lowest rate in the age groups 24-28 and 29-33 years, which amounted to 4.34%, while the proportion was the positive result to C-reactive protein 17% of the total samples were infected with the parasite and the highest concentration of him when quantification 384 mg / dL in the age group 24-28 years with significant differences in all age groups. The immunological study included positive samples for the latex test to measure the concentrations of each of the serum proteins and immunoglobulin IgM, IgA and IgG, the concentrations of highest 2933.333 ± 490.747, 1421.466 ± 1801.164 568.666 ± 490.679, mg / dL, respectively, for different age groups and no significant difference compared with control, either for the concentrations of serum proteins has been observed the highest concentration of 3054 ± 0.748 mg / dL in the age group 24-28 years, and by the results obtained in the present study, we infer the existence of an immune systematic and local response against infection with toxoplasmosis. Background: Cervical mucus is a necessary component of human fertility. Cervical mucus is considered a main barrier for sperms for passing to the upper female reproductive tract, only less than 1% of the spermatozoa in vagina can penetrate the cervical mucus successfully. Objective: Use in vitro sperm cervical mucus contact test (SCMC) to evaluate the fertility of couples complaining from unexplained infertility. Methods: This study was conducted in the Infertility Unit/ Babylon Hospital of Gynecology and Children. Seminal fluid analysis was performed for all 45 studied specimens. SCMC test was performed by aspirating a cervical mucus at 12-14 day cycle of females. One drop of semen mixed with a drop of cervical mucus and covered with cover slide. The slide is then incubated at 37C° for 30 minutes.The sperm concentration and sperm motility due to grading activity were evaluated and compared with semen parameters. Results: The results showed a significant decrease (p<0.001) of sperm concentration and forward sperm motility (grade a & b ), while a significant increase (p<0.001) in grade c and d sperm motility compared to their values in seminal fluid analysis. The correlation (r) study showed significant negative correlation between forward sperm motility a+b with age of females, while a positive correlation between grade c of sperm motility and age of females, and nonsignificant correlation between all studied sperm parameters with infertility period. Conclusion: It was concluded that sperm SCMC test is necessary for detecting the causes of infertility for Normospermic men. These are male, females involved: ovarian, cervical, uterine, tubal, peritoneal and unexplained (Fritz and Speroff,2011). Cervical mucus is a necessary component of human fertility and plays at least two important physiologic roles in fertility. First, cervical mucus is essential for sperm survival and transport (Dunson et al.,1999),second, cervical mucus has been described as a “biological valve” admitting sperm to the uterus at certain times of the cycle while inhibiting their entrance of other times (Hilgers and Prebil,1979). Sims (1968), the first researcher determined the effect of cervical factors on infertility (Pandya et al.,2013). Cervical mucus was considered a main barrier for sperm for passing to upper female reproductive tract, only less than 1% of the spermatozoa in vagina can penetrate the cervical mucus successfully. The evaluation of the reaction between the spermatozoa and cervical mucus include post coital test, sperm cervical mucus contact test (SCMC) and sperm cervical mucus penetration test (Dhurvey et al.,2012). Many couples with normal infertility tests which are performed separately, like seminal fluid analysis, clinic tests, and hormonal tests, remain not conceiving. So this study aimed to use in vitro test (sperm cervical mucus contact test) to evaluate the cervical mucus and its affecting on fertility in the couples complaining from unexplained infertility. Materials and Methods This study was conducted in the Infertility Unit/ Babylon Hospital of Gynecology and Children from December 2012 to February 2014. The study involved 45 couples complaining from unexplained infertility, men with normal seminal fluid analysis and normal females cases with clinic and hormonal checkup with age range 17-40 years old. Seminal Fluid Analysis was performed for all studied males in accordance to WHO(1999). Semen specimens were collected in a wide disposable container after 3-5 days of abstinence. Cervical mucus specimens collection: Cervical mucus specimens were collected from the females in midcycle by opening the cervix using speculum. The vagina was cleaned from vaginal exocervical mucus by a Journal of Babylon University/Pure and Applied Sciences/ No.(5)/ Vol.(24): 2016 1208 sterilized cotton. The cervical mucus specimens were aspirated by a syringe with a special tube and transferred directly to the lab to perform the test. Sperm Cervical Mucus Contact test: This test was performed by mixing a drop of cervical mucus with a drop of the husband`s semen on a slide and covered by a coverslip. The slide was left 30 minutes in an incubator at 37 C°. Then, the slide was read to evaluate the sperm concentration and sperm motility percent in each grade (a, b, c and d) (Majumdar, 2004). Statistical Analysis: The results were statistically analyzed by using ttest using SPSS V.19, and correlation coefficient for correlation relationship. Results Sperm cervical mucus contact test (SCMC) was performed for the couples with normal seminal fluid analysis with normal them wives . The results revealed significant decrease (p<0.001) of sperm concentration and sperm motility percent with grade a and b, while a significant increase (p<0.001) in grade c and d were noticed in SCMC compared to their values in seminal fluid analysis ( Table 1 ). The correlation coefficient between sperm concentration in SCMC and age of females showed non-significant negative (p>0.05) correlation: r= -0.029 (Figure 1). A significant negative decrease (p<0.05) correlation was shown between the grade a+b of the sperm motility and age of females: r= -0.352, while a positive significant increase (p<0.05) correlation in grade c of the sperm motility and age of females: r= 0.289, grade d of the sperm motility was insignificant increase (p>0.05) correlation: r= 0.076 with age of females (Figure 2).
