
Objectives: This study aims to investigate the vocal characteristics of amateur soccer players aged 14-16 years using acoustic voice analysis, aerodynamic measurements, and subjective voice evaluation methods, and to compare the obtained results with normophonic individuals in the same age group. Patients and Methods: A total of 73 participants were included in the study, consisting of 37 amateur soccer players (9 girls, 28 boys) and 36 normophonic children (11 girls, 25 boys). Subjective voice evaluation was performed using the Child Voice Handicap Index-10 (CVHI-10), the Pediatric Voice-Related Quality of Life Scale (PVRQOL), and the GRBAS scale G (Grade) parameter. Acoustic voice analysis was conducted using the Praat software, and included measurements of jitter, shimmer, harmonic-to-noise ratio (HNR), fundamental frequency (F0), AVQIv2, and smoothed cepstral peak prominence (CPPS). Aerodynamic measurements included maximum phonation time (MPT) and the s/z ratio. Results: The jitter values of the soccer player group (0.75±0.51) were found to be significantly higher than those of the control group (0.47±0.36) (p=0.010; d=0.622). Shimmer values were also significantly higher in the soccer group (3.58±1.92) compared to the control group (2.71±1.61) (p=0.040; d=0.490). HNR values were significantly lower in the soccer group (25.24±4.24 dB) than in the control group (28.04±5.48 dB) (p=0.017; d=–0.573). No significant differences were found between the groups in terms of F0, MPT, s/z ratio, PVRQOL, CPPS, and AVQIv2 values (p>0.05). Conclusion: Despite exhibiting perceptually normal subjective and overall voice quality parameters, amateur soccer players demonstrated higher jitter and shimmer values and lower HNR values compared to normophonic participants. These findings suggest that intense vocal effort and environmental factors may lead to minimal vocal changes. Therefore, integrating preventive voice hygiene programs into athletes’ training routines is recommended to support long-term vocal health.
Objectives: This study aims to analyze 2024 otorhinolaryngology journal abstracts indexed in the Web of Science (WoS) using an artificial intelligence (AI)-based structured rubric (ChatGPT) to assess quality and explore associations with journal metrics. Materials and Methods: A methodological analysis was conducted on 515 comparative-study abstracts from 66 WoS-indexed journals. Each abstract was evaluated by an AI language model (ChatGPT-5, OpenAI) using a 10-item rubric derived from international reporting standards, scoring 0-100 across originality, aim, design, methods, statistics, results, interpretation, flow, and impact. Journal metrics (SCI/ESCI, quartile, Journal Citation Indicator [JCI]) were retrieved from the WoS database. Results: The mean total quality score was 75.3±7.6 (range, 50 to 94). Highest scores were for clarity of aim and results (91.0±5.6%), while lowest were for study design and sample size. Abstracts in SCI journals (76.0±7.6) scored higher than ESCI (70.2±5.1, p<0.001). Higher quality was also associated with Q1-2 journals and JCI >1 (p<0.001 for both). Quartile ranking showed the highest predictive value (area under the curve [AUC] =0.76). Conclusion: Abstract quality in otorhinolaryngology journals is variable but correlates positively with journal impact. AI-based evaluation offers an objective, efficient approach to assess scientific reporting quality.
Objectives: This study aims to evaluate the frequency and severity of misophonia, hyperacusis, and tinnitus in patients with low- and high-frequency hearing loss using standardized questionnaires. Patients and Methods: This cross-sectional study, conducted between 01.05.2025 and 31.08.2025, included 100 patients (52 males, 48 females; mean age 62.5±13.8 year; range, 14 to 95 year) classified into low-, high-, or mixed-frequency hearing loss groups. Misophonia was assessed using the Misophonia Questionnaire (MISO), hyperacusis using the Hyperacusis Scale, and tinnitus using a standardized tinnitus survey. Associations between hearing loss type and symptom severity were analyzed using Chi-square tests, Monte Carlo simulations, Cramér’s V statistics, and logistic regression analyses. Effect sizes were estimated using bootstrap methods. Results: Among auditory sensitivity disorders, tinnitus showed a significant association with frequency-specific hearing loss (p<0.05). In contrast, no statistically significant associations were found for misophonia or hyperacusis. Frequency loss was significantly associated with misophonia, hyperacusis, and tinnitus (Cramér’s V=0.61-0.73, permuted p<0.001). Gender was independently associated with hyperacusis (OR≈3, p=0.046). A moderate positive correlation was observed between misophonia and hyperacusis severity (Spearman ρ=0.29, p=0.01). Subgroup analyses by age and gender revealed similar trends. Conclusion: Tinnitus is more prevalent in individuals with frequency-specific hearing loss, highlighting the need for individualized assessment prior to hearing aid fitting. Although misophonia and hyperacusis are commonly observed, no significant associations with audiometric patterns were identified.
Objectives: This study aims to investigate the effects of personal music listening habits on ultra-high-frequency hearing thresholds in young adults using objective data collected through an artifical intelligence-powered mobile application. Patients and Methods: A total of 35 young adults (12 males, 23 females; mean age: 21.3±1.7 years; range, 18 to 25 years), who had recorded their personal music listening duration and volume data for at least one year, were included in the comparative, cross-sectional study between June 2024 and June 2025. The participants underwent tympanometric evaluation, pure-tone audiometry, and otoacoustic emission measurements. Pure-tone hearing thresholds were evaluated at frequencies ranging from 125 Hz to 8000 Hz using a GSI Audiostar Pro audiometry device with TDH-39 headphones. The ultra-high-frequency hearing thresholds of the participants were evaluated at 8,000, 10,000, 12,500, 14,000, 16,000, and 18,000 Hz using a GSI Audiostar Pro audiometry device with Sennheiser HD 300 Pro Circumaural headphones. Participants were divided into two groups based on their listening habits: high-risk and controls. Results: The ultra-high-frequency hearing thresholds of the high-risk group were found to be higher than those of the control group at most frequencies, but this difference was not statistically significant (p<0.05). However, a significant difference was detected between the groups at low frequencies (250 and 500 Hz; p<0.05). Conclusion: The findings suggest that personal music listening habits in young adults may not yet have reached a level that causes permanent hearing loss. However, this study demonstrates that ultra-high-frequency audiometry can be an important tool for detecting potential early-stage hearing problems. Further follow-up studies with longer-term exposure data could more clearly reveal the effects of these habits.
Objectives: This study aims to examine the attitudes of audiology students towards their profession and to investigate the impact of personal and sociodemographic factors on these attitudes. Material and Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted with 123 undergraduate audiology students between March 2025 and June 2025. Students' attitudes towards the profession were assessed using the Scale of Attitudes Towards Audiology Profession of Audiologist Candidate Students. Results: The mean subscale scores of students were 62.14±4.32 for “Feeling and Confidence Toward the Profession” and 38.23±5.13 for “Confidence in the Academic Functioning of the Department.” The mean total scale score was 100.37±6.54. Students who willingly chose the department had significantly higher confidence scores in the academic functioning of the department (p=0.008). First-year students had significantly higher academic functioning confidence scores compared to other classes (p<0.001). Other personal and sociodemographic factors had no significant impact on attitudes (p>0.05). Conclusion: The attitudes of audiology students towards their profession were generally positive, and grade level and willingness to choose the department emerged as the primary determinants of their attitudes. Enhancing university education processes and practical training opportunities is recommended to strengthen students professional motivation.
Objectives: This study aims to comparatively evaluate the readability and content quality of patient information texts related to cochlear implants on Turkish-language web pages according to website type and authorship qualifications. Materials and Methods: Between September and October 2025, the first 100 Turkish-language websites retrieved using the keyword “cochlear implant” on the Google search engine were analyzed. Readability was assessed using the Ateşman and Çetinkaya-Uzun readability indices, and content quality was evaluated using the DISCERN instrument. Websites were classified as company, hospital, personal, or newspaper sites. Ear, nose, and throat (ENT)-based authorship, presence of references, and academic affiliation were recorded. All evaluations were conducted independently by two researchers. Results: Ateşman scores did not differ across the groups (p=0.557). The Çetinkaya-Uzun index showed significant differences; company, hospital, and personal sites scored higher (i.e., more difficult) than newspapers (p=0.001, p=0.005, p=0.001, respectively). Texts with references and ENT-based authorship had lower Çetinkaya-Uzun readability scores (p=0.016 and p=0.005, respectively). Academic affiliation did not affect readability (p=0.375). Among the groups, the DISCERN reliability scores were similar (p=0.211). Considering information quality, newspaper, hospital, and personal groups had higher scores than companies (p=0.022, p=0.027, p=0.008, respectively). Overall quality scores were higher for hospital and personal sources than for company and newspaper sites (p=0.015, p=0.017; p=0.007, p=0.004, respectively). Total DISCERN scores were higher for newspaper, hospital, and personal groups than for companies (p=0.028, p=0.034, p=0.011, respectively). Ear, nose, and throat-based authorship increased information quality and total scores (p=0.009 and p=0.012, respectively). Academic affiliation improved all DISCERN domains (p=0.001). Conclusion: Newspaper websites demonstrated the poorest readability, while company websites constituted the lowest-scoring group in terms of content quality. Overall quality scores were higher for hospital-based and personal sources. Based on these findings, we believe that the use of plain language, a two-tiered presentation approach, and the standardization of transparency are necessary.
Objectives: This study aims to investigate the effects of allergic rhinitis on the sexual lives of patients who consulted a physician for allergic symptoms and were diagnosed with the disease and whether it caused sexual dysfunction. Patients and Methods: In this cross-sectional observational study, 75 patients (41 males, 34 females; mean age: 28.9 years; range, 19 to 47 years) diagnosed with allergic rhinitis underwent psychiatrist evaluation by a specialist psychiatrist between 01.01.2018 and 10.09.2020. The Arizona Sexual Experiences Scale (ASEX) was used to determine the extent to which the current condition affected patients’ quality of sex life. Results: It was determined that 44 of 75 patients in this study had sexual dysfunction in terms of ASEX. When the results were compared with national and international normative values, it was found that it was statistically significant for sexual dysfunction (p<0.05). Conclusion: These results show that allergic rhinitis is not a disease with just physical features but a multisystemic disease that can cause psychosocial and sexual dysfunction, and the treatment should be managed accordingly.
Objectives: The aim of this study was to compare the accuracy and consistency of ChatGPT’s responses in Turkish and English, specifically within the vestibular field. Materials and Methods: Based on a review of the current literature, a total of 42 questions were created in three subcategories: vestibular system anatomy and physiology, vestibular diagnosis and tests, and vestibular rehabilitation and treatment. These questions were presented to ChatGPT 3.5 in both Turkish and English. The accuracy of the responses was evaluated by nine experts using a five-point Likert scale. One week later, the same questions were presented in a different order, and the consistency of the responses was assessed by the authors using the same five-point Likert scale. Results: English responses (3.57±0.34 and 3.97±0.47, respectively) were significantly more accurate than Turkish responses (3.33±0.27 and 3.64±0.36, respectively) in the first and third subcategories. Both inter-rater reliability and test-retest reliability were found to be high for both languages. Conclusion: Our study findings suggest that ChatGPT may serve as a complementary educational tool; however, the reliability and accuracy of its content in specific areas such as the vestibular system require further validation. Additionally, language choice, such as Turkish versus English, may influence performance in certain subcategories.
Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of nasal septum deviation (NSD) on the thoracoabdominal diaphragm (TAD). Patients and Methods: This prospective study was conducted between December 2022 and January 2024. The TAD thickness of 51 patients with NSD (45 males, 6 females; mean age 25.7±9.5 years; range, 19 to 51 years) and 51 healthy controls (44 males, 7 females; mean age: 28.5±5.2 years; range, 19 to 47 years) were evaluated ultrasonographically. Thoracoabdominal diaphragm thickness was measured from the anterior axillary line on the right and left sides of the chest wall. Results: Compared to the control group, the mean height was higher and the mean weight and body mass index were lower in the NSD group (p<0.05). Eighty-eight percent of deviated individuals were male. Thoracoabdominal diaphragm thickness measured at the end of both inspiration and expiration was higher in the NSD group (p<0.001). However, the amount and percentage of interphase change of the TAD was lower in the NSD group than in the control group (p<0.001). Conclusion: The incidence of NSD is high in tall, thin, young men. We believe that the TAD was thicker in the NSD group compared to the control group due to hypertrophy of the diaphragm muscles, which contract more strongly to overcome respiratory distress.
Decreased sound tolerance is a condition in which sensitivity to environmental sounds is increased. Hyperacusis, misophonia, and phonophobia are subtypes of this condition. Current literature continues to debate the definition, classification, mechanisms, and management strategies. Tests and self-report measures are available for assessment. Management strategies are based on counseling approaches, sound enrichment therapy, and psychological support. In this context, multimodal approaches increase the effectiveness of the rehabilitation process. Appropriate assessment and guidance of this group of patients, who are not sufficiently recognized despite being common in clinical practice, is of critical significance. The aim of this narrative review is to examine the current literature on disorders of decreased sound tolerance and discuss the definition, classification, mechanisms, and management strategies of these conditions.
Objectives: This study aims to conduct a statistical analysis of clinical and audiological data based on treatment outcomes to examine the factors influencing treatment success of intratympanic dexamethasone injection (ITDI) in patients with tinnitus. Patients and Methods: This retrospective study included 25 tinnitus patients (16 males, 9 females; mean age: 52.8±13.9 years; range, 27 to 72 years) who underwent ITDI treatment at our hospital between September 1, 2023, and September 1, 2024. Patients who completed four doses of treatment and were followed up for six months, with available pre- and posttreatment Tinnitus Handicap Inventory (THI) scores and audiometric evaluations, were included in the analysis. Results: The rates of vertigo, comorbid conditions, and smoking history were 44%, 8%, and 7%, respectively. The median duration from symptom onset to treatment initiation was 20.4 (range, 1 to 120) months. Treatment success was significantly lower in patients with a history of vertigo compared to those without vertigo (27.3% vs. 78.6%, p=0.01). There were no significant differences in success rates based on age, sex, laterality, presence of comorbidities, smoking status, or tinnitus duration (<3 months vs. >3 months; p>0.05 for all). Audiometric analysis showed no significant changes in hearing thresholds at 250-8000 Hz after treatment. However, patients who exhibited greater hearing loss at 8000 Hz in pretreatment audiometry had lower success rates (p=0.051). Conclusion: The presence of vertigo and severe high-frequency hearing loss may negatively influence the success of ITDI treatment in tinnitus patients.
Objectives: This study aims to evaluate the efficacy of endoscopic endonasal surgery in patients with idiopathic cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) rhinorrhea. Patients and Methods: In this study, 24 patients (8 males, 16 females; mean age: 52.8±12.0 years; range, 18 to 72 years) who underwent endonasal endoscopic surgery for idiopathic CSF rhinorrhea were retrospectively analyzed between January 2009 and May 2018. Pediatric patients and patients with a history of trauma, tumor, or previous cranial and endoscopic endonasal surgery were excluded from the study. Patients’ demographic characteristics, defect localization, side, size, radiological features, graft/flap materials used, additional treatment methods, and complications were analyzed. Results: When the defect localization was examined, 33.4% was the sphenoid sinus lateral wall , 25.0% of olfactory sulcus region, 20.8 posterior of frontal sinüs ostium and %20.2 fovea ethmoidalis. One patient had a bilateral defect. On radiological examination, more than half of the patients (54.2%) were Keros type 2. Defect size ranged from at least 1 mm to at most 20 mm. Postoperative hospital stay was between 6 days and 60 days. Eleven of the patients had lumbar drainage. Fascia lata was most commonly (66.6%)used to close the defect. Complications encountered were meningitis, pneumocephalus, and sepsis; mortality occurred in one patient. One patient underwent craniotomy due to recurrent rhinorrhea. Conclusion: Despite the difficulties in diagnostic methods, advances in medical technology and surgical techniques have enabled the minimally invasively treatment of idiopathic CSF rhinorrhea using endoscopic methods. Contrary to external approaches, endonasal endoscopic method is an effective treatment method with low morbidity and mortality.
Objectives: This study compared the effectiveness of different preparations in reducing pain. Patients and Methods: The double-blind study was conducted between October 2023 and March 2024. Four different premedications (phenazone, lidocaine, Xylocaine, and physiological saline) were administered to patients to reduce pain. Twenty minutes after each procedure, the patient's pain levels were assessed using the Visual Analog Scale and Categorical Rating Scale-4. Patients were asked to select their preferred method of intratympanic injection at the end of all procedures. Results: One patient was excluded due to a perforated eardrum. Thirty-eight patients (24 females, 14 males; mean age: 53.1±13.6 years; range, 27 to 76 years) were included in the study. The intratympanic injection of Xylocaine and physiological saline resulted in significantly less pain than lidocaine. Fifteen (39.5%) patients favored Xylocaine, while 14 (36.8%) patients chose physiological saline. Conclusion: Xylocaine and physiological saline were more effective premedications than lidocaine and phenazone. Xylocaine, due to its deionized structure, was superior to lidocaine but did not provide greater efficacy compared to physiological saline. Further studies are needed to develop new agents, particularly deionized drops.
Objectives: This study aims to evaluate the effect of adenoid or adenotonsillar hypertrophy, which causes sleep apnea, on the systemic immune inflammation index (SII). Patients and Methods: The study group consisted of 83 patients (46 males, 37 females; mean age: 7.4±2.4 year; range, 3-17 year) who underwent adenoidectomy or tonsillectomy due to obstruction at the Department of Otolaryngology, Malatya Training and Research Hospital, between January 2024 and July 2024. A control group was formed from 75 healthy children (46 males, 29 females; mean age: 8.0±3.4 year; range, 3-17 year). The medical records of the patients were reviewed retrospectively, and the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), and SII (calculated as neutrophil count × platelet count / lymphocyte count) were obtained from complete blood count data and compared. Results: The study group had a NLR of 1.31±0.72, while the control group had an NLR of 1.39±0.76. The PLR was 112.34±37.06 in the study group and 110.29±38.55 in the control group. The study group had a SII of 502.03±310.09, while the control group had a SII of 428±234.08. No statistically significant differences were found between the study and control groups regarding the median values of NLR, PLR, and SII (p>0.05). Conclusion: The findings indicate that NLR, PLR, and SII, often used as markers of inflammation in various diseases, do not correlate with upper airway obstruction.
Objectives: This study aims to examine the academic career awareness of undergraduate students in speech and language therapy. Patients and Methods: A total of 103 speech and language therapy students (81 females, 22 males; mean age: 22.8±2.3 years; range, 21 to 39 years) studying at universities were included in this study. Participants filled out a personal information form and the Academic Career Awareness Scale in Higher Education. Results: No statistically significant difference was found between the scale dimensions according to the sex of the participants, the type of university they attended, the type of high school they graduated from, the employment status of the mother and father, and the educational status of the mother and father (all p>0.05). Conclusion: It was observed that the participants had academic career awareness but not at the desired level. There is a need for training and activities in universities that will increase the academic career awareness of students.
Objectives: This study aims to analyze the indications, surgical procedure, histopathological outcomes, and complications in patients presenting with a parotid mass retrospectively. Patients and Methods: One hundred fifty-six patients (94 males, 62 females; mean age: 51.1±17.2 years; range, 6 to 90 years) who underwent surgery in our clinic due to a parotid mass between January 2014 and December 2024 were included in the study. The indications, age and sex distribution, histopathological results, and complications of surgery were retrospectively examined. Results: Of the patients, 134 (85.9%) applied to the outpatient clinic due to painless swelling in the parotid area, and 22 (14.1%) presented with a fixed mass in the parotid region. The mass was located on the right in 60 patients, on the left in 93 patients, and bilaterally in three patients. The mass was located in the deep lobe in 24 patients, while it was limited to the superficial lobe in 132 patients. Superficial parotidectomy was performed in 126 patients, total parotidectomy in 18 patients, and total parotidectomy with neck dissection in 12 patients. Pathology results were reported as benign in 123 patients (non-neoplastic lesion in 13 patients) and malignant in 33 patients. Pleomorphic adenoma was the most common benign tumor in 61 (55.45%) patients, followed by Whartin tumor in 37 (33.63%) patients. Mucoepidermoid carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma were the most prevalent malignant tumors, affecting seven (21.21%) patients. Complications occurred in 21 (13.46%) patients. Facial paresis was the most common complication. Conclusion: The majority of parotid tumors are benign, and their treatment is surgical. The most common complication in parotid surgery is facial paralysis. Preoperative histopathological diagnosis, location of the mass, stage of the tumor, facial nerve invasion, and presence of palpable lymph nodes in the neck are important in planning the surgery.
Objectives: The purpose of our study was to objectively identify the often-overlooked anterior canal benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) and to assess the efficacy of the Yacovino treatment maneuver in patients through both objective and subjective evaluations. Patients and Methods: The prospective study evaluated 360 patients (246 females, 114 males; mean age: 58.7±12.7 years; range, 18 to 75 years) with BPPV between December 2020 and March 2024. We applied the Yacovino treatment maneuver to patients diagnosed with anterior canal BPPV. We evaluated the treatment outcomes using videonystagmography and the Dizziness Handicap Inventory. Results: Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo of the posterior semicircular canal was observed in 275 (76.3%) cases, BPPV of the horizontal semicircular canal was observed in 62 (17.2%) cases, and BPPV of the anterior semicircular canal was observed in 23 (6.5%) cases. A comparison of total Dizziness Handicap Inventory scores before maneuvers and after recovery revealed a statistically significant improvement in patients (p<0.001). Conclusion: The Yacovino maneuver is easy to apply and highly effective in treating anterior canal BPPV. Supine head hanging test should be conducted in patients who are suspected of having BPPV.
Objectives: This study aims to report the frozen section examination (FSE) results of level 2 lymph nodes (LNs) during parotidectomies for parotid masses preoperatively diagnosed as a benign lesion and to evaluate the possible role of FSE in the diagnosis and treatment plan of these patients. Patients and Methods: The prospective study was conducted on patients who underwent parotidectomy with a preliminary diagnosis of a benign parotid lesion between May 2018 and June 2023. Among 120 patients who underwent parotidectomy, 30 patients (24.79%; 23 males, 7 females; mean age: 53.3±12.3 years; range, 22 to 79 years) who had FSE examination of level 2 LNs during parotidectomy were identified. The age, sex, fine-needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB), FSE, and final histopathology reports were evaluated from the patient records. All parotidectomies were performed by the same surgeon using the modified Blair incision, and level 2 LNs were harvested to ascertain the histopathological content through FSE during the surgery. Results: Twenty-five (83.3%) of the 30 patients had a preoperative FNAB, and it was compatible with the final histopathology in 20 (66.67%) patients. The most common parotid lesions were Warthin’s tumor (60%) and pleomorphic adenoma (36.67%), respectively. The FSE of all LNs was reported as reactive, and FSE did not alter the treatment plan in any patient. Conclusion: An LN metastasis detected with FSE may be utilized as an adjunctive diagnostic tool during parotidectomy to prevent the preoperative misdiagnosis of a high-grade malignancy as a benign parotid gland lesion. Although the present study did not demonstrate such a contribution to a false-negative preoperative diagnosis of primary malignancy, the absence of a metastatic LN disease may be an auxiliary finding to confirm the diagnosis of a benign gland disease.
Objectives: This study aims to evaluate the vocal fatigue and vocal hygiene knowledge levels of academics working at universities. Materials and Methods: The study included 104 participants (70 females, 34 males; mean age: 38.2±9.6 years; range, 21 to 73 years) who worked as academics at universities. The participants were asked to fill out the participant demographic data form, Turkish version of the Voice Fatigue Scale, and Voice Hygiene Awareness Knowledge Level Form. Results: In terms of physical discomfort, it was found that the levels of physical discomfort were higher in those who were lecturers (9.11±5.18) compared to research assistants (4.30±2.95), associate professors (4.30±3.74), and professors (4.90±3.01). When the relationship between the scores the participants received from the scales was evaluated, it was found that the dimensions of fatigue and avoidance and physical discomfort had a negative and significant relationship with vocal hygiene (p<0.05), while there was no significant relationship between the dimension of rest and recovery and vocal hygiene (p>0.05). Conclusion: This study showed that vocal fatigue is high among academics working at universities, but their vocal hygiene awareness levels are low.
Objectives: This study aims to evaluate the relationship between the affected semicircular canal and nystagmus characteristics with the perception of dizziness in individuals diagnosed with posterior canal (P-BPPV) or lateral canal (L-BPPV) benign paroxysmal positional vertigo. Patients and Methods: In this prospective study, a total of 56 individuals (37 females, 19 males; mean age: 55.5±10.0 years; range, 32 to 78 years) diagnosed with BPPV according to the Bárány Society criteria were evaluated using videonystagmography between March 2025 and July 2025. Forty of these patients had P-BPPV, while 16 had L-BPPV. The duration, latency, and intensity of nystagmus were recorded. The severity of dizziness was assessed using the Visual Analog Scale (VAS), and dizziness-related quality of life was evaluated using the Turkish version of the Dizziness Handicap Inventory (DHI). Results: Left ear involvement was significantly more common in the L-BPPV group compared to the P-BPPV group (p<0.05). Nystagmus duration was significantly longer in the L-BPPV group (p<0.05). No significant differences were found between the groups in terms of other nystagmus parameters, the number of maneuvers and attacks, or VAS and DHI scores (p>0.05). In the P-BPPV group, a weak but significant positive correlation was observed between nystagmus duration and VAS score (p<0.05). Conclusion: These findings suggest that nystagmus characteristics may not fully reflect the clinical experience of the disease, and symptom perception may vary individually and be influenced by multiple factors.
