The legacy of silk is much more than just fabrics; it encompasses ideas, innovations, and, language exchange. In this article, we present one of the results of the European Horizon 2020 SILKNOW project: the design of online teaching materials aimed to support Spanish language learning. We will explore the methodology used in their setting up and how these materials serve to map out a digital educational tourist route that communicates the values of European silk heritage. We will focus on these learning tools in six Cervantes Institute centres that have been used by a total of 229 people. This exploratory study highlights the potential of interdisciplinarity and online education as effective tools to support language learning while raising awareness of endangered cultural heritage and its relevance for fostering new cultural connections.
This article aims to characterise the cultural landscape of Canfranc and the upper valley of the Aragon River (Huesca, Spain), and to analyse its historical evolution through the images that it has generated over the time. A landscape defined by its strategic location on the border with France in a narrow valley of the Pyrenean mountain range, which gives it a strong defensive/military bias and a strong symbolic connotation. Its first known representations come from the historical mapping and planimetry of the 16th century, although photography (and its reproduction) was and has been the most used method to bear witness to the changes experienced by this territory, especially from the first decades of the 20th century, following the opening of the tunnel and the international station, and can also be a powerful tool in heritage management and in the work being carried out with the heritage communities.
The conservation and restoration of monumental heritage in & Uacute;beda (Ja & eacute;n) was a constant throughout the 20th. century, and even some measures undertaken in the city were pioneering at the national ambit. After the arrival of democracy in our country and the establishment of the state of the autonomies, many of the competences of the central government were transferred to the Regional Government of Andalusia. At this time, a new period opened, coexisting traditional solutions with the new resources offered by avant-garde architecture, in a desire to connect with international modernity. In this paper we intend to analyze the different actions carried out in this moment of transition in & Uacute;beda, many of which were promoted by the socialist mayor Arsenio Moreno Mendoza, whose mandate was characterized by the recovery of the historical-artistic heritage of the city. Among other actions, it was reformulated the General Urban Planning Plan (1984), it was promoted the restoration of numerous monuments in the city to provide them with a public utility-also setting up the Rehabilitation Workshop School-and began the procedures for the declaration of the city as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
This article aims to draw attention to the neglect of the historical value of public works in Catalonia. It proposes some reasons for this fact that the author considers specific to the Catalan reality. With regard to the current development of public works in the region, he states that a scenario has been reached in which the substitution and rectification of layouts or elements of public works threatens the survival of previously built assets. For this reason, he considers that the present moment is decisive for the historical documentation of public works assets. It should be the Administration, in this case, the departments of Territori, Habitatge i Transicio Ecologica and Cultura, who sponsor the historical inventory work and promote, subsequently, the cultural heritage of a selection of elements or layouts for their reuse as an asset of the decontamination policies.
The use of beeswax, which is linked to traditional beekeeping, was historically an important activity in rural areas. As a result, various heritage sites related to the pressing of this bee product are still preserved today. In this regard, the aim of this study is to identify and analyse the main technological elements of beeswax pressing, namely beam press wax mills. The study area corresponds to the Northwest of the Iberian Peninsula, covering Galicia, Asturias, part of Castilla Le & oacute;n and North Portugal. In the study, several documentary sources have been reviewed, and fieldwork has been carried out. The research has identified 14 beam press wax presses in the study area. Elements linked to beeswax bleached have also been identified. The research concludes that these beekeeping infrastructures are elements of great relevance, uniqueness, and interest, and therefore need to be protected and preserved.
This article presents the results of the project "Diagnosis and Preventive Conservation of the Film Heritage of the Film and Television Directorate-UNMSM," developed collaboratively by students, professors, and researchers in communication, visual anthropology, and film preservation. Promoted by the INCOMUN group and the Film and Audiovisual Production Directorate of the San Marcos Cultural Center, the project seeks to strengthen the preservation of audiovisual heritage at Peruvian public universities. In a national context without cultural policies for film conservation, the initiative lays the groundwork for research, training, and institutional advocacy. Its achievements include the classification of the Cine-Arte San Marcos film collection, the identification of the magnetic collection of the First National Film and Video Biennial (2004), the digitization of the Butaca magazine (1998-2016), and the proposal of the University Laboratory for Film and Audiovisual Research and Preservation at UNMSM.
This research aims to map the ephemeral occupation of space by certain musical phenomena in Seville, a city declared: City of Music by UNESCO. Despite the role of music as experienced in its streets, the declaration makes no reference to it. In a context of increasing virtualisation of social behaviours and debates around the spectacularisation of public space, musical events emerge as valuable analogue forms of representation. Both traditional urban rites and spontaneous manifestations are considered, as long as they take place in public space and within the time frame from the democratic transition to the present day. With the aim of recognising their intangible heritage value and unveiling a new interpretation of the urban map, the events are classified based on the movement of music through the city: dynamic path, fragmentation, and static representation. This is approached through a manipulable and experimental method that brings together multiple realities within a single temporal and physical plane. For the cartographic development, references are drawn from other contexts and scales: from territorial ones, where ancestral cultures leave their intangible mark through songs and sound languages; to urban ones, where contemporary artists explore places through surprise, improvisation, or sensory immersion. Although often studied from disciplines outside of urban planning, they are also substantially dependent on the city's physical framework. This journey through musical Seville delves into the singularities and universalities of its urban and architectural relationship with music, through cartographies that disseminate, value, and protect this heritage.
The article analyses the key factors for continuity in social mobilisation processes relating to heritage. The study covers the period between 2000 and 2015, which includes the impact of the 2008-2013 financial crisis and the predominantly rural Andalusian territory in inland areas. Specifically, the trajectory of the Caicena River Ecomuseum in Almedinilla, C & oacute;rdoba, was chosen as the subject of study. Heritage mobilisation is understood as a process driven by local communities that generates social cohesion, well-being and identity through the care of heritage. The example of Almedinilla shows how the neighbourhood's defence of archaeological sites against external threats gave way to a comprehensive heritage activation programme, with the involvement of various local agents. Among the keys to continuity are: the existence of a set of heritage sites relevantto the population; the support ofthese active social communities; continuous management and planning; the creation of networks and the diversification of funding sources; research and innovation applied to the territory; and a commitment to inclusive values. Thus, the Caicena River Ecomuseum has established itself as a driving force for social dynamism, contributing to the eco-social development of the local communities and their engagement. It is concluded that these processes, managed in a sustainable and collaborative approach, not only help to safeguard heritage, but also generate opportunities for the future, promoting identity, collective selfesteem, and resilience, which are key elements for fair, balanced, and sustainable development in rural areas.
Valdeca & ntilde;as' reservoir (C & aacute;ceres, Extremadura) has hidden beneath its water a heritage treasure since 1963, the Guadalperal dolmen. This megalithic complex is in a delicate situation due to the increasing consequences of climate change. Forgotten after its flooding during the "swamp policy" of the Spanish Franco regime, the one renamed by the press as the "Spanish Stonehenge" emerges to the Surface due to the decrease of dam's level. Ddrought, media pressure and exceeding the carrying capacity of the monument cr & eacute;ate the perfect breeding ground to put the preservation of this example of Spanish submerged heritage in check.
The Ricote Valley, located in the Region of Murcia (Spain), is a historic area of great cultural and landscape value, currently seeking recognition for its agricultural system as a Globally ImportantAgricultural Heritage System (GIAHS) by the FAO. This paper documents and analyzes the current model of protection, management, and territorial planning in the area, with the aim of assessing its suitability to preserve the territory's values and promoting its sustainable development. As a result, the paper presents a proposed course of action that acknowledges the key role that cultural heritage protection must play in the planning and stewardship of this cultural landscape.
The plaster lattices of the Alhambra and the Generalife have been affected by different alterations, the most recurrent being cracks. These cause the detachment of material until culminating in the loss of the part, leaving the span without lattice. The problems of deterioration or loss of the lattices pose different solutions ranging from the restoration of cracks and gaps to complete replacement with a copy or replacement with a glass. The objective of the study is to construct a account of the interventions of the lattices during the 20th century, evaluating the criteria and techniques used by the Alhambra plaster workshop. This poses theoretical dilemmas that the architects of the Alhambra have faced.
