
. The taxonomy of Banyutus Nav & aacute;s, 1912 in the Oriental Region is revised. We reject the previous opinion that in this region only one species, B. cubitalis (Nav & aacute;s, 1914), is present. In fact, Oriental Banyutus comprises three species: B. bivittatus (Banks, 1914) n. comb. in the lowlands of eastern Indochina, B. cubitalis from the Himalayas to northern Indochina, and B. indicus Nav & aacute;s, 1929, stat. rev. in the Western Ghats. Formicaleo feai Nav & aacute;s, 1915, is considered as a synonym of Formicaleon bivittatum Banks, 1914, instead of Formicaleo cubitalis Nav & aacute;s, 1914. We provide redescriptions of three species and present figures of the types. Furthermore, we discuss the distribution pattern of Banyutus from the Afrotropical and from the Oriental region. A retrospective examination of historical mosquito collections held at the Institut de Recherche pour le D & eacute;veloppement (IRD, France) and the Institut Louis-Malard & eacute; (ILM, Tahiti, French Polynesia) revealed evidence of Aedes nocturnus on the island of Tahiti dating back as early as 1993. This historical detection was corroborated by targeted field surveys conducted between 2023 and 2025, which confirmed the species' presence at multiple sites, particularly in the southern part of the island. To support these observations, COI sequences from newly collected specimens were analyzed. Although recent work favors recognizing Ae. nocturnus as a distinct species, it has historically been treated as a synonym or geographic subspecies of Ae. vexans. Consequently, the Tahitian sequences were compared with Ae. vexans sensu lato sequences from GenBank, as no Ae. nocturnus sensu stricto sequences were available. The Tahitian specimens clustered within the Pacific group of Ae. vexans, in a sub-group represented by South Pacific islands, including New Caledonia and Moorea, one of the Society Islands. This study provides the first confirmed record of Ae. nocturnus on Tahiti, based on both morphological identification and molecular evidence. The findings underscore the need to integrate molecular tools into entomological monitoring to improve species detection and prevent misidentifications in island environments where vector diversity is often underestimated.
. Ogivaluncus eocenicus n. gen., n. sp., type genus and species of the new Ditrysian family Ogivaluncidae n. fam., is described from the Lowermost Eocene amber of Oise (Northern France). It is tentatively attributed to Yponomeutoidea because of the presence of a distal extension of pleuron VIII (putative synapomorphy), although it differs from this group in the following characters: well-developed uncus; head rough-scaled; labial palps with conspicuous bristles; forewing vein Rs4 running to costa above wing apex, as putative plesiomorphies. It further differs from all the extant families in this group mainly in the combination of characters: haustellum basally scaled; ocelli present; a very small expansion on pleuron VIII; sternite VIII large; and male genitalia strongly different from those in these families. Alongside the description of the new Mycetophilidae species Ectrepesthoneura bouhachemensis Chandler, Belqat, El Mouden & Saidoun n. sp., this study reports major faunistic results from Bouhachem Natural Park (northern Morocco), based on collections made across multiple sites within the park and its surrounding areas. Eight Mycetophilidae species are recorded from Morocco for the first time, including six species newly recorded from North Africa. Notably, Creagdhubhia mallochorum Chandler, 1999, a rare and vulnerable species previously known only from Scotland, is documented for the first time outside the British Isles. In addition, seven genera (Azana Walker, 1856, Creagdhubhia Chandler, 1999, Ectrepesthoneura Enderlein, 1911, Exechiopsis Tuomikoski, 1966, Megophthalmidia Dziedzicki, 1889, Novakia Strobl, 1893 and Tetragoneura Winnertz, 1846), and the subfamily Sciophilinae Winnertz, 1863, are recorded from Bouhachem Natural Park for the first time, and 29 further Mycetophilidae species are added to the park's faunistic list. These findings indicate that this protected area supports an unexpectedly rich and distinctive fungus gnat fauna and functions as a regional biodiversity hotspot. The results also underline the importance of protected areas for conserving insect diversity, particularly for poorly studied groups whose distributions may be underestimated in the western Mediterranean. . Azteca chartifex spiriti Forel, 1912 is a Neotropical ant that exhibits noticeable polymorphism within its worker caste. The aim of this study was to analyze the division of labor among workers based on this polymorphism. We evaluated four key behaviors: colony defense, foraging, nest reconstruction, and the tending of honeydew-producing insects across three polydomous colonies. Head width was measured in workers performing these predefined tasks. Statistical analyses (Chi-square tests) revealed that while nest defense was consistently performed by major workers (87%), other behaviors exhibited significant plasticity. Task allocation for nest reconstruction and Hemiptera tending varied significantly between colonies, suggesting an influence of colony-specific factors, such as ontogeny rather than a strict relationship between shape and task. This balance between specialized defense and flexible task allocation is crucial for understanding the ecological dominance and colony functioning of A. chartifex spiriti. R & eacute;sum & eacute;. Thanks to renewed interest in wild bees in metropolitan France, knowledge of their diversity has steadily increased over the past 20 years. Among the groups of particular concern is the taxonomically complex and highly diverse genus Lasioglossum Curtis, 1833. Building on the most recent national checklist and newly collected material, we describe Lasioglossum ankoui Flaminio & Pauly, n. sp., discovered in Loire-Atlantique and Charente-Maritime, and possibly endemic to metropolitan France (in the present work, to be intended as continental France excluding Corsica and overseas territories). Its distinctiveness is demonstrated through morphological comparisons with related species and confirmed by DNA barcoding. This discovery further refines the taxonomy of Lasioglossum and its faunistic inventory at the national and western Palaearctic scale. A new species of the blister beetle genus Nemognatha is described from the northern region of Madagascar. Nemognatha madagascarensisn. sp. is well distinct by its quite short maxillary galeae and the modified male ventrites. Possible relationships with other Nemognatha are discussed with special regard with the Afrotropical ones. The second Malagasy species of Nemognatha, N. proboscidea, is referred to the genus Zonitodema. A key to the Meloidae of Madagascar is carried out.
The authors revise the material of Apoidea, Anthophorinae sampled by A.P. Fedchenko in 1869, 1870 and 1871 in Central Asia, all described in a single publication in 1875. This collection is conserved partly in the Zoological Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences in Saint Petersburg (ZISP) and partly in the Zoological Museum of Moscow University (ZMMU). Each species is represented by photographs of type specimens. Discovered holotypes and paratypes are presented. Numerous lectotypes and paralectotypes are designated as well as several neotypes. Some formerly designated lectotypes are invalidated as they were not designated based on valid syntypes. All locations sampled by Fedchenko are presented, on the basis of unpublished personal notes from this author. Precise geographical coordinates are determined. The original key included in Fedchenko (1875) is translated. Aside from its historical importance, it is also the only available key for Central Asian Anthophorinae species. Holotypes were located for the following species: Anthophora bogdanowi, A. similis, A. bifasciata, A. clavicornis, A. clessini, A. excelsa, A. heinemanni, A. kochi, A. stschurowskyi and A. turanica. Lectotypes are newly designated or confirmed for the following species described by Fedchenko: Anthophora abramowi, A. barbipes, A. erschowi, A. flavescens, A. freimuthi, A. kaufmanni, A. kessleri, A. kronebergi, A. loewi, A. mac-lachlani, A. magnilabris, A. martensi, A. melanopyga, A. meridionalis, A. montivaga, A. murina, A. muscaria, A. olgae, A. oschanini, A. picicornis, A. radoszkowskyi, A. ruficornis, A. saussurei, A. semperi, A. solskyi, A. strauchi, A. tarsidens, A. uljanini and A. velocissima. Liturgusa dominica (Mantodea: Liturgusidae) was studied on tree trunks from Marie-Galante (Guadeloupe) to understand the specificity of its habitat (i.e. whether it is a tree-trunk specialist or occupies other habitats) and the influence of host trees and bark structure on its presence, abundance, and distribution at different life stages. Six hundred trees were surveyed and their bark structure sorted into seven categories. Overall, 2976 records were collected (2791 oothecae, 179 nymphs, five adult females, and one adult male). The presence of this trunk-specialist mantis species is significantly influenced by bark structure. In terms of abundance, trees with smooth (not peeling) to slightly rough furrowed bark hosted 92.4% of this species' records; regardless of the tree species. These findings support the hypothesis that some Mantodea species, even if they are generalist predators, are influenced by the characteristics of their microhabitat to grow, hide, move, hunt and reproduce. Prorops Waterston, 1923 (Bethylidae, Scleroderminae) is revised, resulting in the recognition of 14 species. This includes nine previously described ones: P. impotens Waichert & Azevedo, 2012, P. mandibularis Lim, 2011, P. maya Honsberger, Lorenzo-Elarco & Magnacca, 2024, P. nasuta Waterston, 1923, P. obsoleta Evans, 1977, P. petila Evans, 1977, P. rakan Terayama, 2006, P. sparsa Waichert & Azevedo, 2012 and P. umiehu Honsberger, Lorenzo-Elarco & Magnacca, 2024. In addition, five new species are described and illustrated: P. blasa n. sp. from Malaysia and Thailand, P. drava n. sp. from the Solomon Islands, P. tintica n. sp. from Vietnam and Thailand, P. vina n. sp. and P. xista n. sp., both from Thailand. An amended diagnosis of the genus is provided, along with a detailed discussion of the morphological diagnostic characters of both the genus and its species. A taxonomic key to all species is included. We further propose that the distinct frontal projection, a consistent and diagnostic structure throughout the genus, represents a functional adaptation linked to host exploitation, with potential ecological and evolutionary implications. This revision offers an integrated morphological framework, and advances our understanding of the taxonomy, biogeography, and functional traits of Prorops. Tri-trophic plant-insect-parasitoid interactions are one of major mechanisms of phytophagous diversification and niche exploitation. The flies of the genus Blepharoneura Loew, 1873 are highly specialised, feeding exclusively on plants of the family Cucurbitaceae. The pumpkin Cucurbita argyrosperma C. Huber, 1867, locally known as 'calabaza pipiana' is cultivated for seed consumption in several regions of Mexico, sometimes coexisting with a wild subspecies C. argyrosperma subsp. sororia (L. H. Bailey, 1943) Merrick & D. M. Bates, 1989, considered the ancestor of the domesticated plants. In this paper we assessed the infestation rates of Blepharoneura diva Giglio-Tos, 1893 on flower buds of 'calabaza pipiana', from both crops and wild plants over an annual flowering cycle between July and October 2021. The results showed that B. diva infested only male flower buds of cultivated plants, while it was absent from wild flowers. A significant increase in infestation rates (63.1%) was observed towards the end of the flowering season in early September, which correlated with an increase in the average size of the flower buds. In addition, the wasp Opius (Bellopius) hirtus Fischer, 1963 (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) was recorded for the first time parasitising larvae of the genus Blepharoneura, accounting for 37.2% of the viable pupae sampled. This is the first report of the tri-trophic interaction B. diva-C. argyrosperma-O. hirtus, revealing that this is a stenophagous fly specialised on male flower buds of the genus Cucurbita L., 1753. Domestication processes of C. argyrosperma probably influenced the host choice of the fly, which preferentially feeds on cultivated flower buds rather than wild plants. Historical background on the biology of this parasitoid wasp revealed that it only attacks the fruit-feeding larvae of several tropical tephritid species. Therefore, our results revealed a significant shift in the ecology of the wasp, to parasitise flower-feeding larvae of cucurbits. The three species of the Mada adusta species-group (Coccinellidae: Coccinellinae: Epilachnini) are revised, and Mada gregaria Celante & Santos n. sp. is described from Brazil (Bahia, Casa Nova and Pil & atilde;o Arcado). All four species are included in a dichotomous taxonomic key, and an updated distribution map is provided. Mada gregaria Celante & Santos n. sp. is the first species of the genus confirmed to occur in the Caatinga Dominion and represents the first documented association of an Epilachnini species with a member of the Loganiaceae family, feeding on Strychnos rubiginosa A. DC. Field observations revealed adult aggregations, oviposition behavior, and evidence of dormancy adaptation to seasonal resource scarcity. These findings contribute novel biological and ecological data for the genus and broadening its knowledge and extending its known distribution into seasonally dry tropical ecosystems. ?Katatopygia cerestensis n. sp., first fossil representative of the mycetophilid extant genus Katatopygia, is described after a compression from the Oligocene lacustrine Konservat Lagerst & auml;tte of C & eacute;reste (Luberon, southern France). The bee genus Trachusa Panzer, 1804 is reviewed from Vietnam, with four recognized species representing two subgenera. Of these, two new species are described and illustrated: Trachusa (Paraanthidium) bella n. sp. and T. (P.) bidoup n. sp. One species, T. (Orthanthidium) formosana (Friese, 1902) is recorded in Vietnam for the first time and the distribution area of T. (P.) vietnamensis Flaminio & Quaranta, 2021 is extended southward to the Central Highlands. Lastly, a key is presented to the species of the genus in Southeast Asia along with a map of their distribution. Several species of ants were reported to place their nests inside empty shells of larger terrestrial gastropods. The structure of their nests was never studied in detail. We recorded 14 species of ants nesting in empty shells of terrestrial gastropods in various habitats of the Czech Republic, of which especially small species of the genus Temnothorax were the most numerous. In steppic habitats, nests of Temnothorax unifasciatus were placed inside the cocoons of the shell-nesting solitary bee Osmia bicolor in several cases. This bee is a specialist for nesting inside empty shells and is locally common and numerous in steppic habitats in Central Europe. In two nests, remnants of a dead bee were found inside the cocoon, together with the colony of T. unifasciatus. The adult of O. bicolor probably died inside the nest and was partly eaten by the ants suggesting a scavenging behaviour. This finding is unique and interesting, brings new insight to the biology of ants and a challenge for further studies on ants nesting in empty shells of gastropods. Dans les habitats steppiques, des nids de Temnothorax unifasciatus ont & eacute;t & eacute; plac & eacute;s & agrave; plusieurs reprises dans les cocons de l'abeille solitaire Osmia bicolor, nicheuse dans des coquilles. Cette abeille, sp & eacute;cialiste de la nidification dans des coquilles vides, est localement commune et abondante dans les habitats steppiques d'Europe centrale. Dans deux nids, les restes d'une abeille morte ont & eacute;t & eacute; retrouv & eacute;s & agrave; l'int & eacute;rieur du cocon, avec la colonie de T. unifasciatus. L'adulte d'O. bicolor est probablement mort & agrave; l'int & eacute;rieur du nid et a & eacute;t & eacute; partiellement mang & eacute; par les fourmis, sugg & eacute;rant un comportement charognard. Cette d & eacute;couverte est unique et int & eacute;ressante, elle apporte de nouvelles perspectives sur la biologie des fourmis et constitue une base pour de futures & eacute;tudes sur les fourmis nichant dans des coquilles vides de gast & eacute;ropodes.
