This article explores the concepts of longing and dreaming as categories fundamental for human development throughout life. It aims to creatively employ concepts from philosophical, literary, and cultural studies and to attempt to transpose them into pedagogy through a brilliant paradox called “maturity towards childhood”. The categories of longing and dreaming are peculiar imponderables that require subtlety of description. The phenomenon of ambivalence is used as a descriptive tool. Hence, the argumentation reveals the dual nature of the categories under investigation: as pain and pleasure, as arche and telos, as “the radiance of life and that which frightens” (Pawliszyn 2019: 331). The essence of the article’s narrative is the argument for the titular “maturing towards childhood”, where childhood is understood, following G. Bachelard, as a cosmic childhood, that is, beyond time. Is the vision of pedagogical guidance toward “maturity towards childhood” as longing and dreaming possible? It is undoubtedly needed so as not to completely strip human education of sensitivity, subtlety, reflectiveness, passion, and the depth of experiencing the world. It is our duty, as those who “guide children” into the world (Greek: paidagogos), to understand, care, and be sensitive to “maturity towards childhood” as a contemporary “competence of absence”.
This article examines a context that is critical for understanding contemporary transformations in socio-cultural reality, with a particular focus on broadly understood educational practice. Specifically, it addresses dehumanization, and more precisely, the variant which may be called self-dehumanization. The analysis proceeds in two stages. First, the phenomenon of self-imposed dehumanisation is conceptualized using selected themes from the humanist tradition of mass society analysis (Znaniecki, Ortega y Gasset, Oakeshott, Sloterdijk). Second, the article poses a series of questions regarding the relationship between contemporary education and the core elements of self-dehumanization: the culture of cynicism, the ontology of ingratitude, intellectual-ethical inertia, and resentment. The discussion seeks to invite further examination of education as a potential environment for dehumanization and, above all, the tendency among educational actors toward self-degradation, a topic that remains underexplored in pedagogical theory and is often overlooked in educational practice.
This article explores the importance of theoretical assumptions for educational practice by analyzing a selected problem, the dilemma expressed in the phrase: reason or relationship. “Reason” here indicates the anthropological necessity of undertaking educational activities for the sake of the student’s own well-being, while “relationship” primarily speaks to an anthropological image that demands the educator’s unconditional acceptance of the student. Both theoretical models guide and justify different educational practices, which are presented in the article. Furthermore, the article addresses the problem of seeking a solution to the dilemma both on theoretical and consistently practical grounds.
W artykule zanalizowano i oceniono monografię podoktorską z zakresu filozofii edukacji.
Zajęcia były prowadzone zgodnie z założeniami modelu Research Team-Based Learning (RTBL) w formule projektu badawczego. Przyszłe nauczycielki procesowi stawania się badaczem zjawisk społecznych w warunkach RTBL przypisują znaczenia w kontekście: bycia badaczem i rozwijania własnych zasobów poznawczych, społecznych oraz emocjonalnych; doświadczenia pracy zespołowej jako przestrzeni wspólnego uczenia się, negocjacji i organizacji działań badawczych; rozumienia procesu badawczego i wartości wiedzy naukowej w paradygmacie jakościowym.
Artykuł przedstawia syntetyczny przegląd najważniejszych wydarzeń naukowych i promocyjnych w dziesiątym roku istnienia czasopisma „Nauki o Wychowaniu.
This article emerges from a lived engagement with education and addresses a tension arising from concern with “what comes out” of teaching and research, where experience is reduced to representation in order to be made presentable. In this reduction, the very life of education, as something in the making, is set aside, and experience becomes fragmented into separate domains of feeling (across sensory registers), narration, and materiality. In response, this text foregrounds forms of attention that remain responsive to lived situations, through which experience persists, is revisited, and is reconfigured over time. Documentation is approached as an infrastructure that keeps relations open and resists the premature closure of meaning. From the position of the teacher–researcher, I attend to slowness, ambiguity, repetition, and the seemingly ordinary in the classroom. The teacher’s presence in the roles of scaffolder and mentor is reconfigured as an active participator within a network of relations, opening possibilities for arts-based and problem-based pedagogies.
Rodzi to silne konotacje z kategorią „pomocy narzuconej”. Celem artykułu było opisanie terenowej działalności kuratorów rodzinnych w optyce „pomocy narzuconej” i pokazanie, w jaki sposób kuratorzy dbali o zachowanie autonomii podopiecznych.
Artykuł stanowi wprowadzenie do 22. tomu czasopisma „Nauki o Wychowaniu. Studia Interdyscyplinarne” (NOWIS).
The article is an introduction to the 20th volume of & bdquo;Nauki o Wychowaniu. Studia Inter-disciplinarne". It presents the main topic of theory and its applications, and the concep-tual framework of the volume together with an outline of its contents. In the summary, it shifts the emphasis to a discussion on the positions presented in the volume, engag-ing it and inviting it to continue.
In 2024 and2025, important academic events on the methodology of educational and social research took place in Poland. The 9th and 10th PTP Pedagogical Methodology Seminar, the 11th Transdisciplinary Symposium of Qualitative Research, and the V International Symposium on Autoethnography and Narrative 2025 devoted to auto ethnography showed a shift in interest towards participation, affectivity, and crossing the boundaries set by tradition and applicable standards. Reflections on the role of the researcher, research ethics, and the embodied and dialogical approach to cognition also played a special role. Another significant event was the XXX PTDE Conference, devoted to the diagnosis of educational needs, measurement methods, and analysis of examination results, whose next edition will take place in 2025 in Krakow.
Theory and theorising are essential issues for science. Every science. And especially for the social sciences. For this reason, the author of the article indicates some of the influential tendencies in these sciences that eliminate theory from thinking about the discipline and also from thinking about empirical research. Even though essential and groundbreaking theoretical works appear in world literature, mainstream publications reduce theory to quotes, lists, and sometimes only chapter mottos. The author ponders the conditions for this state of affairs. He concludes that reviewers are partly respon-sible for this state of affairs and are not always interested in original and-above all-independent analyses; they are not interested in working with the text. For this reason, authors engage in "compilation" activity, which can hardly be called scientific in the traditional sense. In the final word of this essay, the author enumerates the weakness-es of this state of affairs and possible long-term consequences for developing social science theory.
The aim of this text is to explore the motivations of adults for pursuing postgradu-ate studies, retraining in new fields, and participating in other training programs and courses, as well as to identify the factors that influence their engagement and success in the educational process. The theoretical section discusses the characteristics of adult learning and highlights the main motivations and needs of adults in this con- text. The empirical part focuses on a reflective analysis of adults' experiences related to learning and self-development. The research was conducted using problem-centered narrative interviews. The results indicate that adult learners are driven by a variety of motivations, most commonly linked to professional, personal, and social factors. Moti-vation to participate in training plays a crucial role in adults' personal and professional development.
The article begins by exploring the concept of distance, particularly within the sociolo-gy of education as discussed by & Eacute;mile Durkheim, Pierre Bourdieu, and Fran & ccedil;ois Dubet. The notion of distance is thus problematized, enabling an analysis of the strategies employed by teachers who, by having virtual profiles on social networks, protect their personal lives and visibility outside of the school environment. The article uses an on-line forum to gather empirical data, specifically identifying teachers who accept former students on their personal pages and those who accept current students in a restricted manner, allowing limited interaction. These individual approaches provide some evi-dence of the moral norms that weigh on teachers, who engage in these private spaces in a negative manner, through avoidance rituals, to maintain an idealized image of their professional role.
