Objective: It is well-established that vertebroplasty has effects on sagittal parameters due to various pathologies of the spine. Our objective in the study was to reveal the impact of vertebroplasty that was applied to compression fractures due to trauma on sagittal parameters. Material and Method: Twenty patients were included in the study. Scoliosis radiographs were shot preoperatively and at first month during the postoperative period. Spinopelvic parameters of each patient including pelvic incidence (PI), sacral slope (SS), pelvic tilt (PT), lumbar lordosis (LL), thoracic kyphosis (TK), thoracolumbar kyphosis (TLK), cervical lordosis (CL), and sagittal vertical axis (SVA) were assessed. Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) and Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) assessments of the patients were performed as well. Results: Spinopelvic parameter values of the patients were assessed statistically through the analysis of the Paired sample T test before surgery and in the first month during the postoperative period. It was determined that the changes in the PT, SS and LL values of the patients between preoperative and first month postoperative were at the level of p 0.659, p=0.716, p=0.012; and the changes were not significant. It was determined that the changes in the TL, TK, CL, SVA, VAS and ODI values of the patients between preoperative and first month postoperative were at the level of p <0.001and the changes were significant. Conclusion: Vertebroplasty is an efficient technique for relieving pain in thoracic fractures that have a score of 4 and over, based on the thoracolumbar injury classification score and that are type A, based on the AO Spine thoracolumbar injury classification score. Elimination of pain in the acute period is effective in ameliorating the sagittal parameters of patients.
Infections represent the most common complication occurring during the evolution of the severely burned patient, hence requiring closer study and targeted result analysis. The fungal infections are one of the most aggressive types of existing infections, their opportunistic character enabling them to cause invasive infections, ultimately leading to a higher morbidity and a higher rate of mortality. The present study focuses on the presence of Candida spp. in 19 out of a total of 70 patients admitted to the Critical Care Burn Unit in the Clinical Emergency Hospital Bucharest, between 01.01.2019-31.12.2019. No other fungal species, besides Candida spp., were identified in this patient lot. The aim of this study was to analyze the risk factors and the dynamics of the biological parameters of the patients presenting Candida spp. infections, in order to determine how these contribute to the prognostic and final outcome of these patients. We can conclude that a precise diagnostic and prompt treatment can make a significant difference in the outcome of severely burnt patients presenting with a fungal infection.
Uterine rupture is a significant maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality factor. It is defined as the complete cleaving of the three uterine layers. The pregnancy distention leads to alteration of the uterine wall fibers, especially in the low resistance points like surgical scars. World Health Organization realized an extensive systematic review to determine the prevalence of uterine rupture. A lower prevalence was seen in developed countries and higher rates for least developed countries. The incidence of uterine rupture in women with caesarean section is estimated to be 1% and without caesarean section is as low as 0.006%. Although the uterine scar is the main feature of uterine rupture, other contributing influences on untoward outcomes must be promptly recognized. The aim of this paper was to assess the frequency of uterine ruptures in a tertiary referral center, to identify risk factors and symptoms for complete and partial uterine rupture before labor, common symptoms of uterine rupture, multidisciplinary approach, and emergency surgical management.
Background: Vaccines are a key strategy to stop the COVID19 pandemic. The present study was conducted to assess the incidence of Adverse Drug Reactions to the Covishield vaccine among healthcare workers. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional, observational, questionnaire-based study was carried out on healthcare workers of R.U.H.S. College of Medical Sciences, Jaipur, Rajasthan. The study tool consisted of a digital questionnaire. Results: The present study was carried out among 316 healthcare workers who received the first dose of the Covishield vaccine. 83 (26.26%) participants complained of side effects after receiving the first dose of the Covishield vaccine. Fatigue (64), fever (52), body ache (40), swelling at the vaccination site (35), headache (25), and pain in the limb (18) were the most prevalent symptoms. Most post-vaccination symptoms were found to be mild. 67 participants showed side effects of vaccination within 24 hours while 16 showed side effects after 24 hours. Conclusion: This study reflects that one fourth of participants complained of side effects after receiving the first dose of the Covishield vaccine. These side effects are not severe and should not be an obstacle to the successful control of the Covid-19 pandemic in India.
