The article exposes the moral impact of Hugo Blair during the first five years of the 1830s in Mexico. Likewise, it links the ethical-rhetorical discourse of the Scot with other discursive constellations, particularly classical republicanism. The result is a porous discourse that facilitates the appearance of a syncretic virtue of secular emphasis, enunciated above all by sectors of the middle class.
