Risk communication is an important component of food safety management. Effective risk communication facilitates enhanced food safety risk management and promotes public health. With the rapid development and widespread application of algorithm recommendation, the way the public accesses food safety information has undergone profound changes, which have had a structural impact on their perception, judgment, and attitude towards food safety risks. In light of recent typical food safety incidents, this study employed a combination of literature review and case analysis to systematically examine the application of algorithmic recommendation in the dissemination of food safety information and analyzed the opportunities and challenges it posed for food safety risk communication. The findings demonstrated that while algorithmic recommendation mechanisms enhanced information dissemination efficiency, they also exacerbated problems such as information cocoons, emotional polarization, and public cognitive bias. Therefore, a multi-dimensional approach encompassing algorithm optimization, platform governance, and public literacy is necessary to improve the food safety risk communication system.
