5,10,15,20-tetrakis(1'-carboxymethylpyrid-4-yl)porphyrin tetrachloride (1) and 5,10,15,20-tetrakis(1'-carboxymethylpyrid-4-yl)porphyrin tetrabromide (2) were synthesized. Water-soluble tetrapyridylporphine derivatives are salts of halides with multicharged cations with a complex aromatic structure. Thermal effects of dissolution of crystalline tetrapyridylporphins (1) and (2) in water and in aqueous solutions of KOH at 298.15 K were determined by direct calorimetric method. The integral enthalpies of dissolution were measured on a variable temperature calorimeter with an isothermal shell that we designed. The reaction part of the calorimeter and all internal parts in contact with the solution are made of titanium alloy VT-1. The volume of the calorimetric cell was similar to 60 cm(3). The stability of the thermostating system during calorimetric measurements was maintained with an accuracy of 10(-3) K. The standard enthalpies of formation of compounds were calculated using the additive group method. This method takes into account the influence of the primary environment for atoms. The values of the standard enthalpy of tetrapyridylporphine formation and its dissociation products in an aqueous solution were obtained for the first time. They are key quantities in the thermochemistry of this compound, open up the possibility of conducting rigorous thermodynamic calculations in systems with tetrapyridylporphine. The differences in thermochemistry of porphyrins (1) and (2) related to different counter -ion (chloride or bromide) opens a possibility to use solution calorimetry for distinguishing between these ions, which can be useful in some industrial applications.
Recently, more and more drugs that are derivatives of oligopeptides have been introduced to the pharmaceutical market. The structural elements of these compounds are amino acids and dipeptides. When stabilizing functional groups are introduced into the peptide structure, as well as through the use of special delivery systems, oligopeptide derivatives can be used as innovative med-icines. The calorimetric method was used to determine the heat of interaction of glycyl-D-phenyl-alanine with solutions of nitric acid and potassium hydroxide at 298.15K and the values of the ionic strength of the solution 0.5, 0.75 and 1.0 in the presence of KNO3. Measurements were carried out on a calorimeter with an isothermal shell and automatic recording of the temperature-time curve. The unit was equipped with a reaction vessel with a volume of 60 cm(3). Calibration was performed by current at T = (293.15-308.15) +/- 0.01 K and P = 100.5 +/- 0.7 kPa. A thermistor KMT-14 was used as a temperature sensor. The temperature of the calorimetric cell was controlled in a thermostat equipped with a PID controller with an accuracy of 0.002 K. The temperature sensor of the ther-mostat was a platinum resistance thermometer. The calorimeter was calibrated by current. The volume of the calorimetric liquid is 42.83 ml. The enthalpy of stepwise dissociation of glycyl-D-phenylalanine at zero ionic strength was found by an equation with one individual parameter. Standard thermodynamic characteristics (Delta rH degrees, Delta rG degrees, Delta rS degrees) of acid-base interaction reactions in aqueous solutions of glycyl-D-phenylalanine are calculated. The effect of the background electro-lyte concentration on the dissociation heats of glycyl-D-phenylalanine is considered. Knowledge of the thermochemical characteristics of dipeptides is necessary for understanding and subsequent modeling of the process of protein biosynthesis occurring in biological systems. Data on the ther-modynamic characteristics of dipeptide solutions are needed in various fields where these com-pounds are used: pharmacology, medicine, food and cosmetic industries, for the development, jus-tification and optimization of technological processes involving these compounds and their com-plexes with metals.

Calorimetry is used to study the interaction between dipeptide L-carnosine (Car) and amino acids L-histidine (His) and L-asparagine (Asn) with pyridoxine (PN) in an aqueous solution. Experimental values of the enthalpy of dissolution of amino acids and peptide in an aqueous PN solution at T = 298.15 K are obtained for the first time. The thermodynamic characteristics and stoichiometry of the formation of molecular complexes between the reactants are determined. It is found that the stability of the resulting complexes depends on the structure of the reactants and falls in the order Car > Asn > His. It is shown that the main contribution to the stabilization of the resulting complexes comes from the entropy component of the Gibbs energy of complexation.
The study of model biological "guest-host" processes between dipeptides and crown ethers allows us to understand the nature of molecular recognition in living systems. The reaction of the formation of the molecular complex of the crown ether 18-crown-6 (18K6) with L-carnosine (L-Carn) in water at T = 298.15 K was studied using isothermal titration calorimetry. The mixing heats of aqueous solutions of L-carnosine with aqueous solutions of 18-Carn-6 were determined on a TAM III titration calorimeter system (TA Instruments) equipped with a 20 mL titration cell. In the main experiment, the heat of mixing of aqueous 18K6 solution with aqueous L-Carn solution was determined. In separate experiments the heat effect of dilution of L-Carn solution in water was measured, which was taken into account in determining the thermal effect of complex formation. From the thermochemical data, the thermodynamic parameters of the molecular complex for-mation reaction were calculated. It was found that the presence of a histidine fragment in the L-Carn structure leads to an increase in the stability of the molecular complex L-Carn with 18K6 and to a decrease in the exothermicity of complex formation as compared to the complex formation of alanine with 18K6. Thermodynamic parameters of [L-Carn 18K6] formation reaction are similar to thermodynamics of 18K6 complex formation with histidine. Quantum-chemical calculations were performed within the framework of the electron density functional theory using the GAUSSSIAN 03 software package. The results were visualized using the ChemCraft software. We performed the conformational analysis of L-Carn within the framework of the density functional theory (version B3LYP/6-31G**) to analyze the reactivity of L-Carn structural fragments. For three stable conformers in the M062X/ aug-cc-pVTZ approximation the geometric parameters were obtained and the electron density distribution was analyzed within the framework of the QTAIM method as well as the NBO scheme.

The present work reports on molecular interactions of dicarboxylic amino acid, L-aspartic acid (Asp), with nicotinic acid, isonicotinic acid and picolinic acid in aqueous solutions at 298.15 K. Thermodynamic parameters of complex formation between the reagents were estimated using solution calorimetry method. It was found that strengthening of the stability of the Asp complexes follows the order nicotinic acid < isonicotinic acid < picolinic acid. The process of complex formation between Asp and the pyridinecarboxylic acids in water is entmpically favorable. For zwitterionic forms of reagents, DFT theoretical calculations at B3LYP/6-31++G(d,p) level of theory have been performed. Analysis of natural bond orbitals (NBO) has been carried out for the most stable conformers of complexes formed. According to the quantum chemical calculations and thermodynamic data, the complexes between Asp and pyridinecarboxylic acids with 1:2 stoichiometry is mainly formed due to the electrostatic interactions and hydrogen bonding.
