The detector for tuning the beam convergence at the interaction point of the MPD (Multi-Purpose Detector) experiment at the NICA collider (Nuclotron-based Ion Collider fAcility) is discussed. The calibration procedure of the luminosity detector for determination of the absolute luminosity in the MPD interaction zone is presented.
Estimated counting rate in the collisions of heavy ions in the NICA/MPD are presented for collisions of main bunches (bunch-bunch scattering), satellite bunches (satellite-satellite scattering), and the collision of a main bunch with a satellite bunch (bunch-satellite scattering). The distribution of vertices in the MPD interaction area is presented. The main conclusion is that the contributions of satellite-satellite and satellite-bunch scattering do not exceed two percent of the bunch-bunch scattering.
The status of the detector designed to measure the absolute luminosity at the interaction point of the MPD experiment at the NICA collider (JINR) [1] is discussed. The main tasks and performance requirements for the detector are considered. Results of tests of the detector prototypes using cosmic muons and test beams are presented; plans for further work are discussed.
A detector for adjusting the convergence of beams at the point of interaction of the MPD (multi-purpose detector) installation at the NICA collider (nuclotron-based ion collider facility) is discussed. Simulation of the detector operation for Au + Au collisions at √(S_NN)=11 GeV is calculated. It is shown that background events from scattering on residual gas give a negligible contribution to the detector’s samples. It is discussed how to use a detector to adjust beam alignment. The calibration procedure for obtaining absolute luminosity in the MPD interaction zone with the help of this detector is considered.
The Nuclotron-based Ion Collider fAcility (NICA) is under construction at the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR), with commissioning of the facility expected in late 2022. The Multi-Purpose Detector (MPD) has been designed to operate at NICA and its components are currently in production. The detector is expected to be ready for data taking with the first beams from NICA. This document provides an overview of the landscape of the investigation of the QCD phase diagram in the region of maximum baryonic density, where NICA and MPD will be able to provide significant and unique input. It also provides a detailed description of the MPD set-up, including its various subsystems as well as its support and computing infrastructures. Selected performance studies for particular physics measurements at MPD are presented and discussed in the context of existing data and theoretical expectations.
— One of the most important activities of the IBR-2 DSC is the development of detector technologies, which will be used as a basis in designing detectors for future experiments. Detector systems developed by the IBR-2 DSC are described. Today they are used to good effect in research facilities or are prepared for application in the foreseeable future.
When using general-purpose electronics (in particular, CAEN digitizers) in data acquisition systems from two-dimensional position-sensitive neutron detectors with a delay line, the task of constructing neutron events from raw data must be performed at the software level. Digitizers provide raw data in list mode, often referred to as event-based acquisition mode. A tricky algorithm for constructing neutron events can take too long, which disallows near real-time visualization of measurements. The article presents a way to speed up the operation of algorithms for calculating neutron spectra from raw experimental data measured in the list mode. The developed software for a sufficiently fast conversion of the measured data into formats suited for prompt calculation and visualization the requested positional and time-of-flight spectra of neutrons is described. As a result, it became possible to visualize neutron spectra in near real-time.
Social integration of immigrants into host communities is complicated by their cultural and language differences. The success of the process is determined by government policies and educational effectiveness that focus on socialisation and developing tolerance and intercultural interactions/communications. Using student data collected in educational organisations of southern Russia, this study examined the role of cultural characteristics in everyday interactions and analysed students' attitudes towards immigrants as cultural foreigners. About one-fifth of the respondents tended to distance themselves from immigrants/foreigners showing high levels of mistrust of immigrants and people with other religious backgrounds. The questionnaire results prove that the youth of Astrakhan Region tend to be the most tolerant to cultural foreigners, for the region was historically formed as ethnically mixed one. Young people of the Republic of Kalmykia are the least willing to accept representatives of other cultures and migrants, which might be a consequence of repressions against Kalmyks on an ethnocultural basis by the USSR government during the Second World War. The findings suggest that the educational system insufficiently addresses cultural diversity. This study clarifies that schools should have an active role in developing tolerance among students in southern Russia.
Determining the centrality of a collision, or the impact parameter, in heavy-nucleus collisions is important for the analysis of all experimental data and their comparison with theory. One of the methods for this is to measure the number of spectators using a hadron calorimeter arranged at a small angle to the nuclear beam. It is shown that the accuracy in determining the impact parameter at the attainable energy resolution of the hadron calorimeter is inadequate for using the calorimeter in the MPD/NICA and CBM/FAIR projects. The error is as large as 35% at the beam energy of 2.5 GeV even for peripheral collisions. Secondary processes during the motion of spectators through a nucleus make an additional contribution to the error for central and mid-central collisions.
This article discusses the results of parallel measurements with two-coordinate position-sensitive He(3)detectors with a delay line, which are installed on REFLEX and GRAINS neutron spectrometers of the IBR-2 pulsed reactor with the simultaneous use of three data acquisition systems: DeLiDAQ-1, DeLiDAQ-2, and a system based on the N6730 digitizer produced by CAEN.
The article considers precedent utterances from the viewpoint of technical university students’ cultural literacy. The authors analyze the concept of precedent phenomena of culture by giving their classification and sources of their internalization. In this context much attention is drawn to the ways in which students get familiar with the most frequent precedent utterances, originating mostly from the works of fiction. The most significant sources of precedent utterance internalization revealed as the results of the empirical survey conducted among the 1st- and the 2nd- year-students of a technical university are cited. The focus is on the students studying engineering, for the latest approach to technical education includes the study of sociocultural fundamentals and meanings of engineering, which will help the graduates understand the value of culture, science and industry and successfully solve social and professional problems in the future.
A detector for measuring the luminosity at beam crossing points at the NICA collider is proposed. This small detector is based on scintillation counters and may be used both independently and as part of the base NICA detectors. Estimates of the count rate demonstrate that the number of useful counts per minute exceeds 10 4 for pp and Au–Au collisions. A detector calibration algorithm based on van der Meer scans is also proposed. Such calibration measurements take no more than 1 h at NICA. The distribution of interaction vertices is calculated for the NICA parameters.
Special features of the behavior of the pion-production cross section as a function of the mass number of the target nucleus are discussed for incident-deuteron fragmentation to pions produced in the twice-cumulative kinematic region. The fact that, for such pions to be produced in deuteron-nucleus collisions, the target nucleus should be heavier than the proton is the most peculiar to them. They are produced owing to the high-momentum component in both colliding nuclei. The dependence of the production cross section for twice-cumulative pions on the target mass number is simulated, and the effect of various models used to describe the structure of the target nucleus at small nucleon-nucleon distances is examined.
The heterogeneous ferromagnetic–superconducting layered heterostructures V/Fe0.7V0.3/V/Fe0.7V0.3/Nb and Nb/Ni0.65(0.81)Cu0.35(0.19), which contain magnetic clusters and ferromagnetic domains, are studied. The magnetic and superconducting properties of the structures depend on the magnetic-layer thickness, the magnetic field, and the time elapsed from structure preparation. We detected the interaction of clusters with a domain structure, diamagnetism and magnetization reversal of the magnetic layer during the superconducting transition in a ferromagnetic–superconducting heterostructure, and a superconducting transition in the magnetic layer. The magnetic and resistive properties of the heterostructures changed in several weeks and months.
