Upper Devonian carbonate reef complexes have been studied on the territory of the Kolyvan-Tom' Folded Area in sections in the right bank of Tom' River. Facies analysis of the exposed part of the reef complex indicates the predominance of fore-reef and continental margin depositional environments of a tectonically active margin. The identified conodont associations are represented by cosmopolitan representatives of the genera Ancyrodella, Ancyrolepis, Icriodus, Mehlina, Palmatolepis, Polygnathus and "Polylophodonta" suggesting a correlation with the punctata-jamieae, rhenana-linguiformis, triangularis and Lower crepida conodont zones. The largest conodont diversity occurs at the triangularis/crepida boundary. Biofacies analysis of ostracod distribution has led to identification of characteristic associations and their restriction to certain parts of the palaeobasin. Substage boundaries yielded ostracods with both smooth and ornamented shells. In the lower part of the substages, smooth forms predominate, whereas the middle and upper parts of the substages are characterised by forms with tuberculate and reticulated surface. Hollinella valentinae Beds were traced in the Upper Frasnian Solomino Formation, and Acratia granuliformis Beds were traced in the Lower Famennian Kosoy Utyos and lower Mitikha members. Isotope geochemistry of the Upper Devonian sections of the south of Western Siberia reveals Frasnian global events - the Middlesex/punctata and the Upper Kellwasser, their stratigraphic position confirmed by palaeontological data, as well as by the globally expressed negative carbon isotope anomaly. These boundaries are marked by changes in depositional regime reflecting sea-level eustatic fluctuations, which are complemented with faunal changes.
The volcanogenic-carbonate-terrigenous Upper Devonian complex of deposits of the margin of the Kuznetsk Basin has been studied. The results of the studying of sedimentological processes, the composition of sedimentary rocks, the specifics of the petrographic composition of impurity pyroclastic material, make it possible to reconstruct the sedimentation conditions here in the Late Devonian. The predominance as an impurity and sometimes as the main component in sedimentary rocks of andesitic fine pyroclastics with a lower value of acidic and basic volcanic components has been established. From the Late Givetian — Early Frasnian to Famenmian, an uneven increase in the content of acid pyroclastics occurs in the rocks. The studied sections relate to the vast shelf and continental slope of the Siberian paleocontinent. The western direction of the paleoslope is determined. The studied sediments belong to the slope and basin type, they are represented by fine-grained tephroid and volcanomictic sandstones, fine-detrite limestones, olistostromes and slope landslide breccias, turbidites and rarer turbidite canalites, peculiar “conglomerate limestones” (paleoseismites). The composition of pyroclastics and volcanoclastics in sedimentary rocks indicates the manifestation of andesitic volcanism synchronously with sedimentation and the existence of paleogeodynamic conditions corresponding to the active continental margin possibly of the Andean type in the Late Devonian in the studied area. Based on the data obtained as a result of quantitative calculation of the generic composition of the ostracod associations from the studied sections of the Middle (upper part) and Upper Devonian within three structural-facies subdistricts of the margin of the Kuznetsk Basin, the analysis of ostracods was carried out. The features of the biofacial distribution of ostracods allowed us to identify 10 associations and establish their matching with certain parts of the basin from the Late Givetian to the Late Famennian time. The influence of volcanism on the composition of ostracod associations is traced, the appearance of pyroclastics in rocks reduces the taxonomic diversity of ostracod associations and quantitative composition. Variations in the taxonomic composition of ostracod associations correlate well with trends in T-R cycles, the genus is Bairdia is dominant during transgression.
—Dataset on the Middle Devonian volcanic-carbonate–terrigenous sediments of Salair and the Kuznetsk trough, submerged northward under the Mesozoic–Cenozoic West Siberian geosyneclise (WSG) cover, have been presented. Mainly deep water sediments composed of thin- and fine-grained clastic material (with predominance of tephroids) and thin-, fine-clastic biodetrital limestones with slope slide breccia, as well as turbidites and peculiar “conglomerate-like” limestones (paleoseismites) were found. Sedimentary and geodynamic environments have been reconstructed for the Middle Devonian strata. Predominantly andesitic composition of pyroclastic ashes with fewer values of felsic and basic volcanic components have been determined. The structures related to the continental margin environments of the Siberian continent, the continental slope and its basement have been found. According to sedimentary and geochemical data, the paleogeodynamic environment within the studied region was relatively stable and generally corresponded to the island arc conditions. The paleoclimate of the source area changed from semi-humid in the late Emsian–early Eifelian (Malaya Salairka age) to aridic in the middle Givetian (Kerlegesh age). Basin sediments formed in the deep water oxic environments with good water aeration, excepting euxinic environments found in the lowermost part of studied succession.
The biostratigraphic data on the ammonoid, brachiopod, conodont, and ostracod assemblages of the Mamontovo and Zarechnoe horizons of the Salair were revised and analyzed. The stratigraphic succession of the Middle Devonian deposits of the Salair is clarified, and the new Zarechnoe Horizon, including the Akarachkino, Safonovo, and Kerlegesh beds, is proposed. The upper Eifelian ammonoid assemblage of the Agoniatites Zone, established in the upper part of the Akarachkino Beds, is the biostratigraphic level for global correlations. The upper Eifelian and lower Givetian brachiopod assemblage (Indospirifer padaukpinensis (=I. pseudowilliamsi)) characterizes the Safonovo Beds. Two middle Givetian brachiopod zones were recognized in the Kerlegesh Beds: Rhynchospirifer hians (=Ilmenia subhians) and Subrensselandia? salairica (=“Chascothyris” salairica). The conodont assemblage of the Akarachkino Beds characterizes the upper Eifelian. The middle Givetian conodont assemblage, including Icriodus difficilis Ziegler et Klapper, Polygnathus linguiformisklapperi Clausen, Leuteritz et Ziegler, Po. parawebbi Chatterton beta morphotype, Po. ovatinodosus Ziegler et Klapper, and Po. pseudofoliatus Wittekind, was found in the upper part of the Safonovo Beds. No conodont assemblage was found in the Kerlegesh Beds.
New data on ostracods from three Upper Devonian key sections located in the northwestern part of the Kuznetsk Basin along the Tom River have been obtained. Biostratigraphic analysis allowed define biostratons identified in the rank of Beds with ostracods (Bairdia vassinoensis, Hollinella valentinae and Acratia (cooperina) granuliformis). Beds with ostracods are of different correlation potential. Thus, Beds with Bairdia vassinoensis and Beds with Hollinella valentinae can be traced in two structural-facies subzones of the Kuznetsk Basin margin. Forms with a wide geographical distribution have been established in the ostracod complexes. They could be regarded as markers for interregional correlations.
