In the present paper we have shown that a determination of the efficiency of an apparatus on the basis of the weight concentration of the precipitated particles alone is too rough an evaluation. For devices measuring the aerosol concentration the fundamental characteritic is the efficiency with respect to aerosol particles of various dimensions; when the size distribution curve of the aerosol under consideration is given, the efficiency of every apparatus with respect to a given aerosol can therefore be determined.
