A method of continuously depositing the superconducting compound Nb3Sn on a moving substrate is devised. As original materials for obtaining the Nb3Sn, NbC15, and SnC14 are chosen and these are fed separately to the wire. In an apparatus based on this principle, wires with a continuous, single-phase layer of Nb3Sn firmly attached to the substrate (Pt or Nichrome) are obtained. On changing the deposition conditions, the thickness of the layer changes from one to several microns.
