In a new relativistically invariant approach, data on multiple production of particles are analyzed in pp, p-barp, ..pi../sup -/p, ..pi../sup -/C, pC, and pTa interactions in the momentum range from 6 to 205 GeV/c. Distributions of hadrons (..pi../sup -/, K/sup 0//sub S/, ..lambda..) in the square of the 4-velocity (b/sub k/) relative to the jet axis are obtained. It is shown that at a momentum p/sub lab/ greater than or equal to22 GeV/c these distributions do not depend on energy and are identical for hadronization of quarks and of multiquark systems. The observed universal properties of 4-dimensional jets of hadrons apparently are fundamental characteristics of interactions of color charges with the vacuum.
The results of a study of the ..pi../sup -/p..--> pi../sup -/..pi../sup +/n reaction at 5 GeV/c are presented and compared with the predictions of the Reggeized one-pion-exchange model. It is shown that the model gives a qualitative description of the basic features of the reaction. (AIP)
Calculated and measured characteristics are reported for the magneto-optical system used to shape and transport the beams of rf-separated particles in the Lyudmila 2-m liquid-hydrogen chamber at the Serpukhov proton accelerator. The measuring equipment and the methods for adjusting the system are described briefly. (AIP)
