The solidification process of the left holder block was simulated by using the computer simulation software V-Cast. The position and shape of the shrinkage defects were predicted. The oval riser was designed in the upper part of the left holder block,but the riser feeding capacity was not enough. The riser size was modified and the insulating sleeve,chill,and gating system were increased. The results after the once more simulation show that,the modified process can eliminate those defects and the quality of the casting can be ensured.
