Objective: To investigate the protective effects of Rhizoma Paridis total saponins(RPTS)on the rats subjected to two-hit induced by multiple fractures and lipopolysaccharide.Methods:Eighty-six Wistar rats were randomly divided into three groups, and were made to the model in accordance with the standard of two-hit animal model induced by multiple fractures and lipopolysaccharide, except the blank control group.1 hour later, rats in RPTS groups were given Rhizoma Paridis total saponins by intragastric administration.6 hours later, the concentrations of TNF-α、IL-1β and IL-6 in the blood serum of part rats were detected by ELISA(enzyme linked immunosorbent assay). The pathological changes of the lung tissues were examined with light microscope. The mortality rate were estimated from another part rats. Results:In RPTS groups, the concentrations of TNF-α、IL-1β and IL-6 in blood serum of rats were remarkably lower than model group(P<0.001).In the model group, the evidence of lung injury was discovered by light microscopy. In RPTS groups, the histological changes of lung injury were ameliorated. The mortality rate in RPTS groups was lower than the model. Conclusion:Rhizoma Paridis total saponins can protect the rats subjected to two-hit induced by multiple fractures and lipopolysaccharide by falling the concentrations of TNF-α、IL-1β and IL-6 in blood serum of rats and inhibiting acute lung injury
