The Plus-minus Parameter of Image Schemas:an Affix-level AnalysisAbstract:The plus-minus parameter is an important feature of image schemas.This paper discusses its effectiveness at the affix level,with an analysis of the image schema of up-down.The data from dictionaries show that the up-as-prefix words tend to carry positive meanings while the down-as-prefix words tend to express negative meanings.This meaning tendency accords with the plus-minus parameter of image schemas.As for the cases of positive-negative reversal,their seeming violation of the Axiological Invariance Principle can be explained with Krzeszowski's "Fundamental Axiological Matrix".
