This study highlight the state of research and the dominant issues in urban studies. It analyzed 638 top papers in the subject category of Urban Studies from 2013 to 2023, which included 636 highly cited papers and 13 hot papers and belonged to 18 Web of Science categories and 16 research areas. All top papers written in English, were from 867 organizations and 74 countries or territories, and published in 39 journals. The top five journals are Landscape and Urban Planning, Cities, Sustainable Development, Habitat International, Computers Environment and Urban Systems. Top five countries were Peoples R China, USA, England, Netherlands and Australia. Furthermore, top five organizations are Chinese Academy of Sciences, University of California System, University of London, University of Hong Kong, Tsinghua University. With co-occurrence network visualization by VOSviewer, all keywords were separated into five clusters including of ecosystem services and health, city growth, China urbanization, urban planning and management, sustainable development and economic-growth. The most papers are focused on the three Sustainable Development Goals of Sustainable Cities and Communities, Climate Action, Life on Land. These findings offer strategic insights for researchers and decision-makers to optimize their research agendas and urban policy strategies aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals. The results will help researchers clarify the research current situation, but also provide guidance for future research, and also useful for student identifying graduate schools and researchers selecting journals.
This studies highlighting the state of research and the dominant issues in Landscape Ecology. Based on Web of Science database and using the bibliometric analysis method, the 4,496 papers were analyzed in the field of Landscape Ecology topic research from 1976 to March 15, 2025. Most papers were written in in English (4,408, 98.043 %), were from 130 countries or regions, 3,651 organizations, and published in 824 journals and 12 book series. The top five journals are Landscape Ecology (434, 9.653 %), Landscape and Urban Planning (120, 2.669 %), Ecological Applications (90, 2.002 %), Ecology (86, 1.913 %), Ecological Indicators (84, 1.868 %), each journal published more than 84 papers. Top five countries are USA, Peoples R China, Canada, Australia, England, each published more than 304 papers. The top five organizations are United States Department of Agriculture USDA, United States Forest Service, University of California System, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Centre National De La Recherche Scientifique CNRS, each with more than 138 papers. With co-occurrence network visualization by VOSviewer, all keywords were separated into eight clusters topic research. By the all keywords occurrence during the different period, we can found the earlier and front research keywords and cluster. Based on ESI database, there are twenty-one top papers of all highly cited papers. The most papers are focused on the five Sustainable Development Goals of 15 Life On Land (3,486, 77.536 %), 13 Climate Action (2,897, 64.435 %), 14 Life Below Water (2,739, 60.921 %), 02 Zero Hunger (1,121, 24.933 %), 11 Sustainable Cities and Communities (982, 21.842 %). The results will help researchers clarify the research current situation, but also provide guidance for future research. This work is also useful for student identifying graduate schools and researchers selecting journals for publishing the most papers or top papers.
Rice is an important cereal crop for over half of the world population and essential for food security, especially in developing countries where it constitutes a substantial part of daily caloric intake. Wood vinegar, obtained from biomass pyrolysis and rich in organic acids, phenols, esters, sugars, and alcohols, promotes crop growth and productivity. Its diverse composition offers an eco-friendly and cost-effective growth promoter and improves stress tolerance in different crops; however, its optimal application timings in rice cultivation remain underexplored. Our study investigated the effects of wood vinegar on rice growth, photosynthetic efficiency, chlorophyll contents, soluble sugars, phenolics, grain chalkiness, and yield at different stages and combinations such as tillering (T), jointing (J), flowering (F), grain filling (G), T + J, T + F, T + G, J + F, J + G, F + G, T + J + F, T + J + G, T + F + G, and J + F + G. Our results indicate that wood vinegar application at T + J + F stages significantly enhanced the photosynthetic rate by promoting gaseous exchange, chlorophyll contents, and SPAD index when compared with control. Additionally, total soluble sugars (9.71 mg g-1) and phenolics (2.4 mg g-1) levels were noticeably induced during wood vinegar application as compared with corresponding control. Besides, this treatment also elevated the yield by up to 32.4%, reduced grain chalkiness, and enhanced head rice percentage. Taken together, these findings suggest that wood vinegar supports sustainable agriculture by improving crop yield and quality, offering considerable benefits to farmers.
This study analyzed 5,166 research and review articles on the topic of soil pollution published up to July 20, 2024, including 72 top-cited papers. The publications, primarily written in English, originated from 129 countries or regions and appeared in 961 journals and five book series. The five most productive journals were Science of the Total Environment (298 articles, 5.77%), Environmental Science and Pollution Research (218, 4.22%), Environmental Pollution (162, 3.14%), Chemosphere (142, 2.75%), and Environmental Monitoring and Assessment (138, 2.67%). The top five contributing countries-China, Spain, the United States, Poland, and India-each published more than 275 papers. Using co-occurrence network visualization with VOSviewer, the keywords were grouped into seven distinct thematic clusters. In addition, the 25 keywords with the strongest citation bursts were identified through CiteSpace analysis. Most of the publications were aligned with three key Sustainable Development Goals: Sustainable Cities and Communities (SDG 11), Zero Hunger (SDG 2), and Climate Action (SDG 13). The findings of this study not only provide a comprehensive overview of the current state of research in soil pollution but also offer valuable guidance for shaping future research directions in this critical environmental field.
The present study aimed at investigating the beneficial effects of wood vinegar on yield and productivity of an indigenous rice cultivar (Wuxiangzhan). A pot experiment was conducted at the College of Plant Science and Technology, Huazhong Agricultural University, Wuhan, China by following randomized complete block design (RCBD) with 15 replications. Foliar application of 400-fold diluted wood vinegar was conducted at key rice growth stages such as tillering (T-1), jointing (T-2), flowering (T-3), grain filling (T-4), and application at all stages (T-5), with a control (C) receiving no application. Results showed highly significant effects related to foliar application of wood vinegar at aforementioned growth stages. Moreover, considerable trait variation was observed among the treatments based on a diverse pool of morpho-physiological and qualitative attributes. T-5 treatment significantly improved several morpho-physiological parameters (% increase over control) including total chlorophyll content (21.50%), leaf area (22.39%), and aboveground dry matter accumulation (14.19%). Likewise, photosynthetic parameters such as net photosynthesis and stomatal conductance were also observed to be maximized in T-5, with an increase of 17.97% and 33.33% respectively. Yield components including plant height, number of productive tillers, and grain yield were most enhanced in T-5, with a notable 28.77% in grain yield. Quality assessments revealed that wood vinegar application in T-5 also decreased chalkiness rate (19.27%) and amylose content (5.40%) while increasing head rice recovery (2.50%) and protein content (3.09%) thus optimizing rice quality. Cumulatively, in comparison to the control, rest of the wood vinegar treatments showed beneficial effects viz; T-5, T-1, T-2, T-3, and T-4. These findings demonstrate that wood vinegar, particularly when applied at all growth stages, can significantly enhance rice growth, yield, and quality. In conclusion, this research uncovered wood vinegar application as one of the sustainable and eco-friendly rice cultivation practices, contributing to global food security.
The objective of this paper was to use bibliometric methods to analyze the publications of “Agroecology” topic research and citation topics of sustainable development goals (SDGs). Based on Web of Science database and using the bibliometric analysis method, this study analysed 3,865 articles and review types of papers on Agroecology topic research from 1979 to December 3, 2024, including 50 top papers classified as highly cited papers and one hot paper according to the Essential Science Indicators database. Papers mainly written in English (94.64%), were from 143 countries or regions and published in 758 journals and book series. The top five journals are Agroecology and Sustainable Food Systems, Sustainability, Frontiers in Sustainable Food Systems, Agriculture Ecosystems Environment, Agronomy for Sustainable Development. The top five countries and regions are USA, France, Brazil, England and Spain, each published more than 265 papers. With co-occurrence network visualization by VOSviewer, all keywords were separated into seven clusters topic research of yield and soil, agriculture sustainability and food sovereignty, biodiversity, sustainable agriculture, climate change on agroforestry, benefits analysis, wildlife. Top 25 keywords with the strongest citation bursts were performed in CiteSpace. Based on ESI database, there are 50 top papers that are both 50 highly cited paper and one hot paper. Most publications focus on five Sustainable Development Goals of 02 Zero Hunger, 15 Life on Land, 13 Climate Action, 03 Good Health and Well Being, 11 Sustainable Cities and Communities. The results help researchers to better understand the current research landscape, but also provide guidance for future research on Agroecology research.
Based on the Web of Science, this study analyzed 3,103 research articles and review articles of maize or corn intercropping system research from 1952 to 2022. Results showed that papers mainly written in English (2,925, 94.264%), were from 9,814 authors, 114 countries/territories and 2,201 organizations, listed in 496 Journals and two Book Series. The top five journals were Field Crops Research (181, 5.833 %), Agronomy Journal (107, 3.448 %), Agroforestry Systems (103, 3.319 %), Plant and Soil (97, 3.126 %) and Indian Journal of Agricultural Sciences (80, 2.578 %). Top five countries and regions were Peoples R China, USA, Brazil, India and Kenya, each more than 221 papers. The top three affiliations were China Agr Univ, Sichuan Agr Univ, and Wageningen Univ. Top 5 authors are Yang Wenyu, Yang Feng, Chai Qiang, van der Werf Wopke, Liu Weiguo, each published more than 36 papers. Based on the analysis of network map of VOSviewer, there is cooperation for authors, organizations and countries or regions. Visualizations offer exploratory information on the current state in a scientific field or discipline as well as indicate possible developments in the future. The analysis of all keywords showed that maize or corn intercropping system research were separated into ten clusters. So, authors can choose their ideal journal with a high impact factor or Q1 in Category to publish their papers in the English language related to their research field.

The top five journals are Science of the Total Environment, Journal of Cleaner Production, Agriculture and Ecosystems Environment, Environmental Science and Pollution Research and Sustainability. The top five countries were Peoples R China, U.S.A., India, Germany and Japan. The top five organisations were the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Nanjing Agricultural University, Indian Council of Agricultural Research, CGIAR and Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, each with more than 126 papers. The top four authors were Wassmann Reiner, Pan Genxing, Smith Pete and Cao Cougui. All keywords were separated into 10 clusters with co-occurrence network visualisation using VOSviewer, and the research front was shown by co-occurrence overlay visualisation. This study analyzed 1,739 papers on medicinal mushrooms published from 1999 to July 18, 2022 based on Web of Science (WoS). Papers were mainly written in English (1,733, 99.655%), from 6,502 authors, 92 countries or territories, 1,862 organizations and published in 311 journals and 3 book series. International Journal of Medicinal Mushrooms published 1,069 (61.472%) papers. Top 5 countries or regions were P.R. China, India, Taiwan, USA, and Malaysia; each published more than 87 papers. From the average citations, papers from Ukraine, Israel, Netherlands, Serbia, and Thailand show the highest citations per paper (more than 22.9 times per paper). The top five affiliations were Chinese Academy of Sciences, University of Malaya, University of Haifa, National Chung Hsing University, and Shanghai Academy of Agricultural Sciences, each with more than 49 papers. Top five authors are Wasser SP, Hyde KD, Mau JL, Sabaratnam V, Yang Y; each published more than 26 papers. The paper with the most was Wasser SP in Applied Microbiology and Biotechnology (2002), which has 1442 citations and the average number of citations is 68.67 times per year. Based on the ESI database, there are 13 top papers with 13 highly cited papers and 1 hot paper. All keywords in medicinal mushrooms research were separated into ten clusters according to different research topics. The results will help researchers clarify the current situation and provide guidance for future research.
Based on the Essential Science Indicators database, this study analyzed 1,777 top papers in the Ecology subject category of Web of Science, for eleven years from 2011 to 2021, which included 1,770 highly cited papers and 15 hot papers in the field and belonged to 33 categories and 29 research areas. All top papers written in English came from 12,677 authors, 3,246 organizations and 123 countries or territories, and were published in 104 journals and 5 book series in the field. The top five journals publishing the highest number of top papers are Proceedings of the Royal Society B Biological Sciences (9.96% of papers), Global Change Biology (7.88%), ISME Journal (7.71%), Landscape and Urban Planning (7.54%) and Trends in Ecology and Evolution (5.01%), each published more than 89 papers. Top five countries were USA, England, Australia, Germany and Canada. Furthermore, top six organizations publishing the highest number of top papers are University of California, Berkeley, University of Oxford, Chinese Academy of Sciences, University of Queensland, University of British Columbia, and University of California, Davis (more than 62 papers each). VOSviewer software supported the bibliometric analysis. Co-occurrence analysis of top papers' keywords identified eight clusters that correspond to eight major research topics representing different viewpoints on Ecology. Those main topics are: ecosystem services and conservation management, climate-change impacts, evolution and selection, biodiversity, diversity and abundance, ecology patterns and community structure, ecology prediction, impacts of biological invasions. The subject of ecosystem services and conservation management is a front or recent interest topics in Ecology.

Top 5 core journals with higher impact factor ranked as Soil Biology Biochemistry, Geoderma, Plant and Soil, Catena, Soil Tillage Research. Top 5 countries and regions were Peoples R China, USA, Germany, Australia, France. The study also analysed that top 5 organizations were Chinese Acad Sci, Univ Western Australia, Univ Chinese Acad Sci, INRA, Nanjing Agr Univ. The analysis of all keywords showed that the research was separated in clusters. Therefore, authors can choose their ideal journal with a high impact factor to publish papers in the English language related to this research field.

The top five journals are the Nature Climate Change (15.9% of the studied paper), Atmospheric Chemistry and Physics (12.1%), Journal of Climate (7.0%), Bulletin of the American Meteorological Society (6.7%), and Journal of Geophysical Research Atmospheres (4.6%), each published more than 76 papers. Top five countries were the USA, England, PR China, Germany, and France. Furthermore, top five organizations of National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR), National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), Chinese Academy of Sciences, and University Colorado were popular based on contribution of articles more than 134 papers each. Top 5 core journals ranked as Weed Technology (207, 5.368%), Euphytica (191, 4.953%), Pakistan Journal of Botany (189, 4.901%), Frontiers in Plant Science (137, 3.553%) and Theoretical and Applied Genetics (114, 2.956%). Top 5 countries and regions were USA, Peoples R China, Pakistan, Australia, and India. Top 5 organizations were USDA ARS, Chinese Acad Agr Sci, Nanjing Agr Univ., Huazhong Agr Univ., and Univ. BACKGROUND: The strawberry (Fragaria×annanasa Duch.) is a fresh fruit of its attractive colour, good flavor and enrichment of nutrients in the world. OBJECTIVE: This study analyzed the 3,885 strawberry research papers both article and review types from Food Science and Technology category. METHODS: The data were searched and extracted from Web of Science database, and were analyzed by bibliometric science and visualization tools. RESULTS: Papers mainly written in English (3,754, 96.628%), were from 12,695 authors, 94 countries/territories, 2,689 organizations and in 168 Journals and book series. The top five Journals were Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry (432, 11.12%), Food Chemistry (338, 8.7%), Postharvest Biology and Technology (245, 6.306%), Journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture (187, 4.813%) and Journal of Food Science (185, 4.762%), which each published more than 185 papers. The top five countries and regions were USA, Spain, Peoples R China, Italy and Brazil. The top five organizations were CSIC, ARS (USDA ARS), Univ Calif Davis, Univ Politecn Valencia and Zhejiang Univ. The top five authors were Battino Maurizio, Giampieri Francesca, Wang Shiow Y. (Wang, SY), Mezzetti Bruno and Carle Reinhold (Carle R), each published more than 23 papers. All keywords of the strawberry research from Food Science and Technology category were separated nine clusters for different research topics. CONCLUSIONS: The paper could provide a valuable guide for designing future studies, and is also useful for student identifying graduate schools and researchers selecting journals.
To clarify the current situation, hotspots, and development trends in the field of rice and climate change topic research, a massive literature dataset were analyzed from the Web of Science database by bibliometric method. The research theme was chosen given the continuous increase of studies related to climatic changes and their consequences to rice. Based on the Web of Science core database, this study analyzed 4170 papers in the field of rice and climate change topic research from 1990 to July 2022, which include 86 highly cited papers and 3 hot papers. Papers were mainly written in English (4157, 99.688%), from 16,363 authors, 4017 organizations, and 129 countries/territories, published in 841 journals and seven book series. The top five Journals are Science of the Total Environment (136, 3.261%), Sustainability (89, 2.134%), Agronomy Basel (81, 1.942%), Agricultural and Forest Meteorology (77, 1.847%), and Climatic Change (74, 1.775%), each published more than 74 papers. Top five countries and regions of People's Republic of China, the USA, India, Australia, and Japan were the major article contributors, each published more than 360 papers. Top five organizations of Chinese Acad Sci, Nanjing Agr Univ, Univ Chinese Acad Sci, Chinese Acad Agr Sci, and Int Rice Res Inst (IRRI) were popular based on contribution of articles more than 133 papers each. Among the all authors, top five authors were Tao Fulu, Pan Genxing, Zhang Zhao, Hasegawa Toshihiro, and Iizumi Toshichika, each published more than thirty papers. All keywords were separated into eight clusters for different research topics. The top seven core journals are ranked as Plant Disease (252, 8.601%), Phytopathology (229, 7.816%), Plant Pathology (93, 3.174%), Frontiers in Plant Science (89, 3.308%), Canadian Journal of Plant Science (86, 2.935%), European Journal of Plant Pathology (86, 2.935%) and Journal of Experimental Botany (86, 2.935%), and these journals each published >86 papers. The top five countries and regions were the USA, People's Republic of China, Spain, Canada and England. The top five organisations were the University of Florida, USDA ARS, University of Malaga, University of California Davis, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada. The top five authors are Peres, Natalia A. (Peres, Natalia; Peres, N.A.); Madden, LV; Munoz-Blanco, Juan (Munoz-Blanco, J); Schwab, Wilfried (Schwab, W) and Ellis, MA, each published >25 papers. All keywords of the strawberry research from the Plant Sciences category were separated into 11 clusters for different research topics. Papers mainly written in English (3,769, 97.34%), were from 10,102 authors, 83 countries or territories, 2,033 organizations and published in 770 Journals and three book series. The top five Journals were HortScience (278, 7.18%), Journal of the American Society for Horticultural Science (272, 7.024%), Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry (116, 2.996%), Journal of Economic Entomology (97, 2.505%), Food Chemistry (92, 2.376%). The top five countries and regions were USA, Peoples R China, Canada, Chile and Brazil. The six most paper contributed organizations were USDA ARS, University of Florida, Michigan State University, University of Georgia, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, and University of Maine. The top five authors were Hancock, James F.; Rowland, Lisa J.; Ehlenfeldt, Mark K.; Lyrene, Paul M.; and Strik, Bernadine C. All keywords of the blueberry research based on Web of Science were separated into seven clusters for different research topics. This review could provide a valuable guide for designing future studies. This work is also useful for student identifying graduate schools and researchers selecting journals.
