In order to explore the main factors that effects the survival rate of Walnut bud grafting in open air, it conducts test and study on Walnut bud grafting in open air techniques during the period of 2000—2002. The results show that the best Walnut bud-grafting period is in June. Adopting the measures of one-year stock pruning before budding, grafting in the new tip of a tree in rainy season, rebinding after 5～7 days grafting and irrigating the nursery 3～5 days before grafting in dry condition can notably increase the survival rate of bud grafting. There is no clear difference for the survival rate of grafting early and late varieties.
