This study aims to investigate how social media embedding influences micro and small enterprises’ (MSEs) adaptability through resource integration mechanisms in agricultural enterprises. The present research theoretical framework is based on resource-based, vocational ability development, and social media embedding theories. Its objective is to determine the influence of social media embedding on MSEs’ adaptability. A convenience sampling survey gathered data from 327 small and micro agriculture-related entrepreneurs in China. According to the study results, both online community embedding and web media embedding had a significant and positive impact on MSEs. While web media embedding significantly affected resource integration, online community integration did not. Resource integration was identified as a mediating factor between the two dimensions of social media embedding (i.e., online community embedding and web media embedding) and the adaptability of entrepreneurial enterprises. This study advances existing literature by decomposing social media embedding into distinct dimensions. This decomposition offers a nuanced understanding of the differential impacts across various dimensions. The research establishes resource integration as a critical mechanism linking social media use to organizational adaptability. Furthermore, it extends resource-based theory application in the digital transformation context of agricultural MSEs. These findings offer practical implications for enhancing enterprise adaptability through social media utilization.
Recent research on counterproductive work behaviors (CWB) has clearly distinguished between organizational-directed and individual-directed forms of CWB. Organizational-directed counterproductive work behaviors (CWB-O) pose a significant threat to organizational effectiveness and employee well-being. However, there remains a gap in research regarding the psychological mechanisms by which perpetrators subsequently engage in positive behaviors. Drawing on moral cleansing theory, this study, based on two-wave survey data from 489 Chinese employees, explores the relationship between CWB-O and organizational citizenship behaviors (OCB-O). The results reveal that employees who engage in CWB-O experience higher levels of guilt and stronger perceptions of moral impurity, both of which independently and positively mediate the impact of CWB-O on OCB-O. Furthermore, we find that employees’ traditionalism orientation positively moderates the indirect effects of CWB-O on OCB-O through guilt experience and moral impurity perception, with the mediation effect being more pronounced for employees with higher traditionalism orientation. This study extends moral cleansing theory and highlights the role of cultural values in shaping workplace moral self-regulation.
In today’s VUCA environment, a large number of short-cycle risks and long-term risks are intertwined with each other, causing a lot of difficulties for the development of enterprises. Therefore, it requires organizations to improve organizational resilience to secure survival and achieve sustainable growth. In the face of increasingly complex challenges, digital transformation has become a “must” to cope with uncertainties and risks, and companies’ willingness to invest in digitalization continues to rise. However, regrettably, insufficient attention has been devoted to the significant topic of how digital transformation fosters heightened organizational resilience in an uncertain environment. Through the analysis of the data collected from 289 retail companies, this study delves into the impact of digital transformation in improving organizational resilience. The results show that digital transformation exhibits a significant positive facilitating effect in enhancing organizational resilience. In addition, both incremental and radical innovations, build a critical mediating link between digital transformation and organizational resilience. Further moderating effects reveal that environmental uncertainty significantly and positively moderates the relationship.
In China, the implementation of the rural revitalization strategy provides a broad stage for migrant workers to return home to start their own businesses. This study constructs a research framework of “competence – legitimacy – performance.” Through online and offline surveys, this study obtained 477 valid samples from new family farm entrepreneurs in Fujian province of China. By using structural equation model, this study explores the relationship between entrepreneurial competence and family farm entrepreneurial performance. The empirical analysis results show that all the five dimensions of family farm entrepreneurs’ entrepreneurial competence, namely, opportunity recognition competence, network competence, resource acquisition competence, entrepreneurial learning competence, and improvisational competence have positive impacts on family farm entrepreneurial performance. And organizational legitimacy also has a positive impact on family farm entrepreneurial performance. In addition, the mediating effect of organizational legitimacy in opportunity recognition competence, network competence, resource acquisition competence, entrepreneurial learning competence, and family farm entrepreneurial performance are supported by data. However, organizational legitimacy does not play a significant mediating role in the relationship between improvisational competence and family farm entrepreneurial performance. The research findings provide some enlightenment and reflections to family farm entrepreneurs and policy-makers.
This study evaluates the efficiency of agricultural product distribution through the lens of agricultural-commerce integration, focusing on Fujian Province, China. By innovatively dividing the distribution process into two stages—production and sales—and employing a non-radial Slack-Based Measure (SBM) two-stage network Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) model, the research provides a more comprehensive assessment of distribution efficiency. The results reveal that Xiamen maintained full efficiency in both stages, while Fuzhou improved from 0.681 in 2015 to full production efficiency by 2019. In contrast, Nanping's sales efficiency remained as low as 0.041. The results show that while overall distribution efficiency has improved, significant regional disparities persist, particularly in the sales stage. The paper highlights the central role of agricultural product distribution companies in optimizing resource allocation and enhancing efficiency through collaborations with emerging agricultural entities and strategies to reduce distribution costs. Additionally, the study introduces a novel approach by categorizing cities based on their efficiency levels and proposing tailored improvement strategies for each category. High-performing cities like Xiamen and Fuzhou should focus on value-added processing, while low-efficiency cities like Nanping require targeted interventions to improve sales performance. This research contributes to the literature by integrating agricultural-commerce integration into the evaluation of distribution efficiency and offers actionable insights for policymakers and stakeholders in the agricultural sector looking to improve agricultural product distribution systems.
The relationship between collaborative marketing and customer loyalty has attracted attention in retail practice. However, in omni-channel retail, the impact mechanism of the two needs to be further defined academically. Based on the theoretical analysis of the stimulus-organism-response (SOR) framework, this paper systematically creates a research model of the impact of omni-channel collaborative marketing on new customer loyalty. It leads an empirical study using structural equation modeling with survey data from 550 agri-fresh produce omni-channel customers. The samples obtained this time is more appropriate to the overall characteristics of fresh omni-channel customers. The structural equation modeling (SEM) research model was developed on the impact of omnichannel collaborative marketing on new customer loyalty. The results show that both dimensions, i.e., price coordination and service and distribution coordination of omni-channel collaborative marketing strategy, positively affect omni-channel shopping experience and customer loyalty. Moreover, product and sales promotion coordination do not directly affect customer loyalty but through the mediating effects of the omni-channel shopping experience. Omni-channel shopping experience plays a mediating role in the relationship between omni-channel collaborative marketing and customer loyalty.
This study aims to address the research gap by investigating how social media influences the innovation ability of new professional farmers, with a specific focus on technological perspectives. Grounded in embeddedness theory and taking into account the roles of knowledge management and learning orientation, the research aims to unveil the dynamics shaping farmer innovation within the context of social media engagement. Employing a structural equation model and utilizing survey data from 336 farmers, the empirical research concludes that social media embedding significantly and positively impacts the innovation ability of new professional farmers. Knowledge management acts as a partial intermediary between network media embedding and the innovation ability of new professional farmers, and a complete intermediary between network community embedding and their innovation ability. Learning orientation positively moderates the relationship between network media embedding, network community embedding, and knowledge management. The study seeks to contribute to the comprehension of how social media can foster innovation among farmers, thereby promoting high-quality and sustainable development in agriculture. In light of this, recommendations are suggested for the government to encourage social media usage, for farmers to enhance their media literacy, strengthen knowledge management, and cultivate a learning-oriented mindset. Drawing upon social cognition theory and social support theory, this study investigates the impact of social support on entrepreneurial well-being. Using a valid sample of 228 entrepreneur respondents who are supported by Youth Business China (YBC), this study provides compelling evidence regarding the following key findings: Firstly, family support has a significantly positive impact on entrepreneurs’ entrepreneurial well-being. Partner support significantly and positively affects entrepreneurs’ subjective well-being, although it does not significantly impact objective well-being. The positive impact of social support from institutions on entrepreneurial well-being is not significant. Secondly, partner support and institutional support have significant positive impacts on entrepreneurial passion. However, family support does not exhibit a significant positive effect on positive emotions. Instead, it significantly contributes to entrepreneurial identity. Thirdly, entrepreneurial passion demonstrates a significantly positive impact on entrepreneurial well-being. Fourthly, entrepreneurship passion plays a mediating role between social support and entrepreneurial well-being. Finally, entrepreneurial efficacy positively moderates the relationship between social support and entrepreneurial passion. The study culminates with practical implications for entrepreneurs and policymakers in entrepreneurial practices.
Endogenous motivation to stimulate farmers runs through not only poverty alleviation but also the entire process of rural revitalization. As spatial production is the general carrier of spatial resources to the countryside, if it does not activate the local internal public, the space rent can easily be seized by external forces, and spatial injustice becomes inevitable. The barriers to spatial production are lack of organisable labour force, low human capital and inadequate access to resources. The spatial production model is used to break down the barriers, particularly in the spatial production of organisational mobilisation by mobilising the development of local resources through the use of ICT endogenous capabilities and fostering the social capital of individuals. The Ecological Civilization Talent Station in China is treated as a case of participatory research by the author’s team to analyze the mechanism of spatial production in the sustainable endogenous development of villages and towns.
Drawing on a perspective grounded in social information processing theory, this paper investigates the mechanism through which organizational innovative climate affects individual improvisational behavior. We developed a theoretical model for analyzing our hypotheses and conducted an empirical study by analyzing data from 356 employees who work for service enterprises. Our paper finds that organizational innovative climate impacts employees' improvisational behavior by triggering their psychological safety perception. It is also found that employee's creative self-efficacy plays a positive moderating role in the relationship between organizational innovative climate and employees' improvisational behavior. The results of our study assert that improvisation is not just an inherently individual phenomenon. Rather, it is also affected by the characteristics of the organizations in which employees are embedded. We discuss the implications of these findings for understanding and promoting employees' improvisational behaviors in the workplace.
In the context of global warming, although the coordinated development of tourism has led to regional economic growth, the high energy consumption-driven effects of such development have also led to environmental degradation. This research combines the undesired output of the Super-SBM model and social network analysis methods to determine the eco-efficiency of provincial tourism in China from 2010-2019 and analyzes its spatial correlation characteristics as well as its influencing factors. The aim of the project is to improve China's regional tourism eco-efficiency and promote cross-regional tourism correlation. The results show that (1) the mean value of provincial tourism eco-efficiency in China is maintained at 0.405~0.612, with an overall fluctuating upward trend. The tourism eco-efficiency of eastern China is higher than that of central, western and northeastern China, but the latter three regions have not formed a stable spatial distribution pattern. (2) The spatial network of provincial tourism eco-efficiency in China is multithreaded, dense and diversified. Throughout the network, affiliations are becoming closer, and network structure robustness is gradually improving, although the "hierarchical" spatial network structure remains. In individual networks, Jiangsu, Guangdong and Shandong provinces in eastern China have higher centrality degrees, closeness centrality and betweenness centrality than other provinces, which means they are dominant in the network. Hainan Province, also located in eastern China, has not yet built a "bridge" for tourism factor circulation. In the core-periphery model, the core-periphery areas of China's provincial tourism eco-efficiency are distributed in clusters, and the number of "core members" has increased. (3) The economic development level, information technology development level, and tourism technology level collectively drive the development and evolution of China's provincial tourism eco-efficiency spatial network.
Even though organizations encourage the dissemination of knowledge and information among organizational members, the phenomenon of knowledge hiding still exists widely in organizations. The consequences of leader-signaled knowledge hiding are more destructive to the workplace than the consequences of employees’ knowledge hiding. It is particularly necessary to explore the influence mechanism of leader-signaled knowledge hiding on employees’ work behavior. Drawing on Conservation of Resources theory, this study establishes a moderated mediation model with emotional exhaustion as a mediating variable and supervisor-subordinate guanxi as a moderating variable. This study focuses on the consequences of leader-signaled knowledge hiding and divides leader-signaled knowledge hiding into self-practiced knowledge hiding and explicit knowledge hiding. Based on the results of 440 questionnaires from tourism employees, it is shown that leader-signaled knowledge hiding has a positive impact on employees’ work withdrawal behavior. Specifically, leader’s self-practiced knowledge hiding has a greater direct impact on employees’ work withdrawal behavior, while leader’s explicit knowledge hiding has a greater direct impact on employees’ emotional exhaustion. Emotional exhaustion plays a key mediating role in the relationship between leader-signaled knowledge hiding (i.e., self-practiced knowledge hiding and explicit knowledge hiding) and employees’ work withdrawal behavior. Supervisor-subordinate guanxi significantly moderates the positive relationship between leader-signaled knowledge hiding (i.e., self-practiced hiding and explicit knowledge hiding) and employees’ emotional exhaustion. This study is an extension of previous research on knowledge hiding. The results provide a reference for leaders to deal with knowledge hiding and improve organizational knowledge management ability.
Based on the regret regulation theory and entrepreneurial cognition theory, this study aims to investigate the relationship between entrepreneurs’ anticipated regret and entrepreneurial persistence through the mediator of entrepreneurial cognition. To that end, we distributed surveys to entrepreneurs who were supported by the “Xing Chuang Tian Di” project and used 248 questionnaire data to examine the hypotheses. The results show that entrepreneurs’ anticipated regret has a significant and direct impact on entrepreneurial persistence. Also, entrepreneurship cognition plays a mediating role between anticipated regret and entrepreneurial persistence. In addition, the entrepreneurial environment plays a positive role in moderating the relationship between anticipated regret and entrepreneurial persistence.
Recent trends in the academic literature indicate growing interest in leadership for fostering employees' knowledge sharing. In this research, we integrate social cognitive theory and social exchange theory to explain how and when self-sacrificial leaders promote employee knowledge sharing. It is found that self-sacrificial leaders influences employees' knowledge sharing by nurturing employee moral ownership and a sense of obligation to the organization. We also found the moderating effect of supervisor-subordinate guanxi on the self-sacrificial leadership—employees' knowledge sharing link. We discuss the implications of these findings for understanding and promoting self-sacrificial leaders and employees' knowledge sharing behaviors in the workplace.
Farmers' entrepreneurship is a powerful breakthrough for solving the problems associated with "agriculture, rural areas and farmers." Although studies have commonly used the same entrepreneurial activities to analyze farmers' entrepreneurship, its deep economic roots have rarely been investigated. Investigating the internal development mechanism within the same industry is helpful for understanding farmers' entrepreneurship motivation and decision making and is an important point at which to implement regional research and enrich the overall research on farmers' entrepreneurship in the Chinese context. Based on a single-case study in Q Village, Fujian Province, this work identifies the key role played by relational contracts in entrepreneurship groups: reducing transaction costs, promoting investment in asset specificity, and improving contract flexibility. Moreover, this approach is conducive for different action groups in terms of stimulating entrepreneurial motivation in the initial entrepreneurship period and improving entrepreneurship learning ability in the long term. Primary Action Group transforms exploratory intuitive learning into exploratory compilation learning, and Secondary Action Group triggers the learning effect and makes a proprietary investment by utilizing intuitive formulaic learning and compiled formulaic learning, thus reducing unforeseen, contracting and verification costs. During the pattern maturity period, Primary Action Group rationally integrates the supply chain and forms a stable entrepreneurial paradigm, while Secondary Action Group does so to maintain prior information reserves and lower information search, supervised execution, and bargaining decision costs. The value cocreation ability of the same type of commercial modularity is formed, and the whole process of farmers' entrepreneurship is completed. Our results have important implications for policymakers in China and other countries with clans.
Customer engagement is a new value index affecting the omnichannel benefits of enterprises. It is beginning to attract the attention of both scholars and managers. However, there is still a lack of research on the mechanism influencing customer engagement in the fresh food omnichannel retail context. Drawing from the stimulus–organism–response (SOR) framework, this paper builds a relationship model between omnichannel integration and fresh food customer engagement. In addition, the paper empirically analyzes the mechanism of omnichannel integration’s impact on fresh food customer engagement. The findings show that omnichannel integration promotes flow experiences through three modes: information integration, business integration, and service and distribution integration. Flow experience is mediating the relationship between omnichannel integration and customer engagement. Strengthening the customer engagement knowledge system can help fresh food omnichannel retailers to create and manage the long-term cooperative relationship between customers and the company’s value creation. The higher the degree of omnichannel integration of fresh food retail firms, the more conducive it is to enhancing the customer flow experience, which will positively impact customers’ attitudinal and behavioral engagement.
Purpose Following the rapid expansion of data volume, velocity and variety, techniques and technologies, big data analytics have achieved substantial development and a surge of companies make investments in big data. Academics and practitioners have been considering the mechanism through which big data analytics capabilities can transform into their improved organizational performance. This paper aims to examine how big data analytics capabilities influence organizational performance through the mediating role of dual innovations. Design/methodology/approach Drawing on the resource-based view and recent literature on big data analytics, this paper aims to examine the direct effects of big data analytics capabilities (BDAC) on organizational performance, as well as the mediating role of dual innovations on the relationship between (BDAC) and organizational performance. The study extends existing research by making a distinction of BDACs' effect on their outcomes and proposing that BDACs help organizations to generate insights that can help strengthen their dual innovations, which in turn have a positive impact on organizational performance. To test our proposed research model, this study conducts empirical analysis based on questionnaire-base survey data collected from 309 respondents working in Chinese manufacturing firms. Findings The results support the proposed hypotheses regarding the direct and indirect effect that BDACs have on organizational performance. Specifically, this paper finds that dual innovations positively mediate BDACs' effect on organizational performance. Originality/value The conclusions on the relationship between big data analytics capabilities and organizational performance in previous research are controversial due to lack of theoretical foundation and empirical testing. This study resolves the issue by provides empirical analysis, which makes the research conclusions more scientific and credible. In addition, previous literature mainly focused on BDACs' direct impact on organizational performance without making a distinction of BDAC's three dimensions. This study contributes to the literature by thoroughly introducing the notions of BDAC's three core constituents and fully analyzing their relationships with organizational performance. What's more, empirical research on the mechanism of big data analytics' influence on organizational performance is still at a rudimentary stage. The authors address this critical gap by exploring the mediation of dual innovations in the relationship through survey-based research. The research conclusions of this paper provide new perspective for understanding the impact of big data analytics capabilities on organizational performance, and enrich the theoretical research connotation of big data analysis capabilities and dual innovation behavior.
Despite the pivotal function of knowledge sharing for enterprises in today’s highly competitive and ever-changing economic environment, the mechanism about how ethical leadership impacts employees’ knowledge sharing remains a largely unexplored domain in the literature. Drawing on the social exchange theory and social learning theory, this study examines how ethical leadership helps to encourage followers’ knowledge sharing behavior considering the dual-mediating effects of positive reciprocity and moral efficacy. A questionnaire-based survey is used to collect data in China. And structural equation modeling techniques are used to analyze the collected data in order to test the proposed hypothesis. Results show that ethical leadership has positive impact on followers’ knowledge sharing. It is also found that both positive reciprocity and moral efficacy play significant mediating effects, and they are equally important in accounting for the impact of ethical leadership on followers’ knowledge sharing. Based on the analysis results, this paper further discusses theoretical and practical implications.
From various mass media, it is discovered that environmental anomaly is constantly occurred in past years. It proves that global ecological crises have gradually impacted the earth and the public behavior involving in environmental issues cannot be solved simply by environmental experts, but requires people’s correct environmental understanding and behavior. The solution of environmental issues lies in the development of environmental education; in other words, environmental education is an important tactic to improve environmental issues. Aiming at rural tourism visitors to Fujian Province, total 420 copies of questionnaire are distributed, and 288 valid copies are retrieved, with the retrieval rate 69%. The research results show positive and significant effects of environmental facilities on environmental education, environmental education on environmental literacy, and environmental facilities on environmental literacy. According to the results, suggestions are proposed, expecting to assist in the sustainable development of domestic rural tourism and cultivate the environmental literacy and responsible environmental behaviors of the citizens.
