Currently, due to the rapid spread of COVID-19 with the manifestation of severe acute respiratory syndrome, extensive discussions are underway on a number of topical issues related to the best optimal ways to treat patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) during coronavirus pandemic, including problems of susceptibility to this new infection, presence of comorbid pathology, the disease severity and its course, the risks of complications and mortality, as well as the role of drugs used to control glycemia. The coronavirus pandemic is a severe acute respiratory syndrome SARS-CoV2 (COVID-19) dictates the need for immediate study and deep fundamental understanding of the general pathophysiology of the new disease, potentially determines the choice of therapeutic strategy in patients with DM, affected by coronavirus infection. Currently available epidemiological data on COVID-19 do not support the hypothesis that patients with diabetes are at increased risk of infection compared to the general population. To date, it has been established that decompensated DM is an independent factor that aggravates coronavirus infection and significantly increases the risk of fatal disease outcome. Thus, there are the scientific and clinical needs to obtain new data on the methods of treatment currently used in patients with DM infected with COVID-19 to determine their effectiveness and select the optimal treatment strategy, provide a less severe course and better prognosis of disease. Our knowledge of the new coronavirus infection is deepening day by day and the lessons dealing with this new pandemic around the world are extremely important and very valuable in determining the best approach to fighting against this disease. This review provides a brief summary of the general characteristics of COVID-19, and also based on the literature data provides an analytical characteristics of the relationship between this new infectious disease and DM in order to promote a better understanding of the pathogenetic and clinical aspects of this pathological combination, as well as the selection of the most effective therapeutic strategies for patients with COVID-19 and DM
The rapid development of information technology has given impetus to the modernization of the educational system in general and in medicine in particular. The new millennium was marked by the emergence of programs that could algorithmize and systematize terabytes of information from various sources, adapt and translate arrays of information into simple, accessible visual objects. This is where the Augmented Reality (AR) technology is built. AR is a term designating all projects aimed at complementing reality with any virtual elements. Printed publications are a separate direction for using augmented reality. In the press, this technology has found its place in presenting relevant news, reporting, interviews, advertising, etc. However, today no medical journal in the world uses the augmented reality. And only the publication P.L. Shupik NMAPE and NAMS of Ukraine, in particular the journal “Reproductive Endocrinology”, for the FIRST time begin the program of application of AR for their printed materials. In the magazine “Reproductive Endocrinology” the doctor will be able to not only read about pathologists and see a normal photo, but also reproduce the video of the process of diagnosis or treatment, and consider the image in three-dimensional 3D form. Thanks to AR-technology, separate articles of the magazine with a special note will allow to expand the reader's possibilities in obtaining and perceiving information. Research purpose. To study etiological and pathogenetic features of brain abscesses based on clinical data and the results of bacteriological tests on own clinical experience. Methods and subjects. 242 cases of brain abscess were analyzed for patients from 6 regions of Ukraine. Adults (18-59 years old) prevailed 195 patient (80.6 %), elderly patients (60-74 years) were 15 (6.2 %) persons, children (0-18 years) were 32 (13.2 %). Results and discussions. In our research bacteriologic examination of content of abscesses was conducted in all cases. Bacterial growth was registered in 58 (24.9 %) cases. A Gram-positive flora prevailed in 44 cases, Gram-negative was in 14 cases. Hematic abscess was associated with Gram-positive flora in 9 from 12 cases, abscesses inducted by otolaryngologic illnesses occurred in 9 from 17 cases, posttraumatic abscess was observed in 9 cases from 11. At odontogenic abscess, according to literature data, causative agents are mainly ana-erobes which are not practically selected in our laboratories. At the analysis of fatal cases a death rate was 8.6 ± 3.7 % at the etiologically confirmed supervisions, and 13.04 ± 2.50 % in the absence of the selected causative agent. Conclusions. The basic factors while choosing antibiotics at brain abscess are antimicrobial activity in regard to dominant causative agent, bactericidal or bacteriostatic properties of preparation, and ability of antibiotics to penetrate through the brain-blood barrier.
