The possibility of the effective self-similar frequency-modulated (FM) pulse amplification is studied in inhomogeneous amplifiers. The dynamics features of the gain are considered in the erbium-doped fiber amplifiers operating in a three-level scheme. It is shown that the use of active optical waveguides with a suitably chosen profile of normal group velocity dispersion can provide efficient amplification of subpicosecond pulses.
Laser pulse amplification in optical fiber amplifier with variable dispersion is considered. Active segments with exponential growth of dispersion are connected by passive optical fiber modulators. Fiber modulators have the given rate of dispersion decrease. It can be used for the pulse frequency modulation control.
