A system is described that was developed at the Scientific-Research Institute of Nuclear Physics for processing of the data recorded on stereoscopic photographs from large bubble chambers and hybrid spectrometers using PUOS-4 measuring projectors, an Elektronika-60 microcomputer, and an ES-1045 computer. The system structure, the main programmable interfaces, and the intercomputer communications are examined. The mean-square error of the measuring channels of the system, determined from calibration measurements, is within 1.3-3.5 /mu/m; the standard deviation of the coordinates of the measured points with respect to the track in the plane of the photograph is 6 /mu/m. The system is widely used at the institute for analysis of data from experiments in high-energy physics performed with the European Hybrid Spectrometer and the Mirabel large bubble chamber. Approximately 80,000 stereoscopic photographs have been processed and the system is being prepared to process data from the Skat bubble chamber and a spectrometer with a vertex detector that is under construction.
The flux of high-energy muons (with threshold energies between 10 and 500 GeV) was measured with a magnetic spectrometer in the system used at Moscow State University to investigate extensive air showers. The lateral distributions of muons, their energy spectra, and the dependence of the characteristics of the muon component on the shower-age parameter, the sign of the muon charge, and the number of particles per shower in the range N/sub e/ = 5 x 10/sup 4/--3 x 10/sup 6/ are reported.
This paper describes a UIM-23 microscope which was used to scan photographs obtained from holographic bubble chambers. The optical scheme of the apparatus is illustrated. Readings of 2 m could be obtained in the X and Y coordinates and 4- m readings in the Z coordinate. The electronics of the instrument conform to the CAMAC standards and are described in this paper.
