Objective: to assess the epidemic situation of echinococcosis in the period 2012–2022 in the endemic territories of the Far Eastern Federal District and South of Russia. Materials and methods: based on the data of the annual statistical reporting forms No. 2 "Information on infectious and parasitic diseases", data from the Reference Center for Monitoring Larval Helminthiasis of Rostov Research Institute Microbiology and Parasitology of Rospotrebnadzor, an analysis of the incidence of echinococcosis in the territories of the Far East and South of Russia in the period 2012–2022 was carried out. For seroepidemiological examination of a conditionally healthy population by the ELISA method, the diagnostic kit "Echinococcus-IgG-ELISA-BEST" (JSC "Vector-Best", Novosibirsk) was used. Results: it is shown that the epidemiological situation of echinococcosis is characterized by pronounced territorial unevenness. In the south of Russia, epidemiological problems with echinococcosis persisted in Kalmykia (0.74–2.19 cases per 100,000 population) and in the Astrakhan region (0.60–1.48 cases per 100,000 population). Among the relatively healthy population, the average seropositivity to E.granulosus antigens in the Far East was 5.8%, in the south of Russia — 2,6%. Conclusions: the data obtained indicate an unfavorable epidemiological situation for echinococcosis in a number of regions of the Far East and South of Russia.
Parasitological monitoring of environmental objects plays an important role in the sanitary and epidemiological surveillance system. To control and ensure biological safety, wastewaters are subject to mandatory research because that is where the maximum concentration of parasitic pathogens that can enter the human body is recorded. Since 2011, the Rostov Research Institute of Microbiology and Parasitology of the Rospotebnadzor has conducted 14,055 sanitary and parasitological studies of (pre- and posttreatment) wastewaters and (liquid and dried) sewage sludge sampled at sewage treatment facilities in various territories of the south of Russia. The specific weight of positive wastewater samples before treatment averaged 60.5%, and after treatment, 46.8%. In the spectrum of parasitic pathogens detected in the wastewaters, eggs of Toxocara, ascarids and whipworms were predominantly found. The number of positive sewage sludge samples was 35.2% in the Republic of Adygea, 30.9% in the Republic of Karachay-Cherkessia, 20.5% in the Rostov Region, 34.0% in the Astrakhan Region, and 34.2% in the Krasnodar Territory. Thus, sewage treatment facilities in the south of Russia are epidemiologically significant objects that cause a risk of parasitic pathogen distribution in external environment.
This paper presents the results of the analysis of official reporting data on the incidence of echinococcosis for the last 5 years (2017–2021) and the analysis results of maps of the epidemiological survey of echinococcosis foci in the Russian Federation for the same period. During 2020–2021, a significant decrease in incidence rates for cystic echinococcosis was recorded, as well as in the total number of detected parasitic diseases almost in 1.8 compared to 2018, which is evidently due the limited availability of routine medical care to patients during the pandemic of the new coronavirus disease, COVID-19. But it should be noted that the incidence of alveococcosis remained at the same level over the last 5 years. Rural residents of working age suffer from echinococcosis more often. Despite significant improvements in the methods of instrumental diagnosis of echinococcosis and increased availability of high-tech medical care, echinococcosis-associated lethal outcomes are recorded annually in the Russian Federation. The lethality rate of cystic echinococcosis varied from 0 to 1.1% for the last 5 years, and alveococcosis, from 2.0% to 6.25%.
Objective: to study the sanitary condition of various environmental objects of the Rostov region and the degree of their contamination.Materials and methods: in the period from 2015 to 2019, more than 5600 sanitary and parasitological studies of environmental objects of the Rostov region were performed on the basis of the Rostov Research Institute of Microbiology and Parasitology: waste water and its precipitation, soil, water of open surface reservoirs. The work was carried out in accordance with the accepted normative documents.Results: it was found that 33.4 % of all tested samples were positive, and 1.4% of the samples contained viable eggs of various pathogens of helminthiasis and did not meet the requirements of regulatory documents.Conclusions: the results of the study indicate that the environmental objects of the Rostov region are polluted with parasitic pathogens and their unsatisfactory sanitary and parasitological condition.
