The aim of this study was to investigate clinical factors that may affect the incidence of incomplete excisions of tumoral lesions in outpatient settings. We evaluated the clinical and histopathological findings in a retrospective, monocentric study on adult patients in whom surgery was performed in an outpatient setting. We assessed all patients who had surgical procedures for the excision of tumoral lesions performed in 2021 by a total of 8 surgical teams. A total of 699 lesions from 558 patients were gathered. 86 lesions were excluded from the study as they did not fulfill the inclusion criteria. There were 163 nevi and 283 lesions that were cancerous or precancerous. In total, 43 lesions had positive borders, of which 29 were nevi and 14 were classified as malignant tumors. Out of 14 melanoma surgeries, none had positive borders. Nevi were at risk for positive histological borders (odds ratio 3.32 [95%CI 1.70 – 6.48], p=0.0004). The mean size of nevi with positive margins was 76.11 mm2, compared to 51.03 mm2 for those with negative margins, although this difference was not statistically significant. Teams with more cases tend to have a higher rate (6.74% vs. 5.15%), but without statistical significance. Overall, the findings suggest that there is a significant correlation between clinical diagnostics and positive excision borders, and that experience may not be as influential a factor as clinically determined excision margins.
Vaccination against COVID-19 is a highly debated subject that brings confusion due to contradictory information coming from the scientific community and the media. Our aim was to focus on a homogeneous group of students in the healthcare field to assess their intention to vaccinate and the drivers behind this decision. A cross-sectional study was performed in the spring of 2021 in a Medical University in Romania. 725 of the undergraduates that completed an online questionnaire regarding their intention to vaccinate against COVID-19 were included in the study. Univariable analysis and logistic regression were performed on several variables to analyze factors affecting the willingness to vaccinate against COVID-19. In our study sample, 93.1% of students presented a strong intention to vaccinate, out of which the highest proportion belonged to subjects studying general medicine (96%). On logistic regression, we identified the following predictor factors: previous infection with coronavirus, prior vaccination refusal, VAX score, scientifically oriented sources of information and preference for RNA-based technology. Medical students have an increased willingness towards vaccination. Even for them, a highly educated and informed group of subjects, the general attitude towards vaccinations has a strong impact on the choice of COVID-19 vaccination.

BACKGROUND:The Melkersson-Rosenthal syndrome (MRS) is a very rare clinical entity and its classical form is being characterized by the following triad: facial nerve palsy, swelling of the lips and fissured tongue. However, the monosymptomatic form is more common and the typical manifestation is facial edema and/or enlargement of the lips.CASE REPORT:We report a case of monosymptomatic MRS with a positive biopsy of granulomatous cheilitis.CONCLUSIONS:In the daily practice as a pediatrician, it is not usual to diagnose a patient as having MRS. We consider that this is partly because of misdiagnosis. We therefore believe that this case report will supply additional information, in the scope of recurrent facial paralysis and orofacial edema in both children and adults.
We describe a patient with widespread skin lesions and circulating IgG autoantibodies to both type VII collagen and laminin 5. Although autoantibodies to type VII collagen belonged to IgG2, IgG3, and IgG4 subclasses, laminin 5 was targeted exclusively by IgG3 autoantibodies. Interestingly, despite the presence of IgG3 autoantibodies, the patient's serum failed to fix complement to the dermoepidermal junction. In addition, these autoantibodies did not recruit and activate leukocytes or induce dermoepidermal separation in skin sectioned by cryostat. We report a most unusual case of an autoimmune subepidermal blistering with an exclusive IgG3 reactivity to laminin 5.

An association between cutaneous cylindromas and salivary gland cylindromas would probably not be fortuitous. Case report. A 66-year-old man developed multiple cutaneous cylindromas and cylindromas situated in the parotid and submaxillary gland. Histology was similar for both localizations. Discussion. This association was probably not fortuitous as the histology was similar, other cases have been reported in the literature, and recent complaint concerned the development of multiple cutaneous cylindromas and salivary gland cylindromas. Salivary gland cylindromas should be searched for in patients who develop cutaneous cylindromas as they are more aggressive in nature.
