SUMMARY Objective: To assess the effects of Hyaloglyde® gel (or auto-cross-linked polysaccharide (ACP) gel; Fidia Advanced Biopolymers, Abano Terme, Italy), a hyaluronan-derivative polymer, on flexor tendon repair in zone II. Methods: Fifteen patients (10 males, 5 females), aged between 17 and 47 years old, all with Zone II flexor tendon injuries, were divided in two groups (A and B). The first group (8 patients) was treated with Hyaloglide®, while the second was not. Both tendons were sutured in all cases. Associated metacarpal and phalangeal fractures were present in two cases. Clinical testing was done at follow-up in order to evaluate the capacity for functional recovery. Results: After twenty weeks, group A patients showed satisfactory results with full functional recovery of their hand, while in group B, functional recovery was slower. Two patients of group B underwent tenolysis. Conclusion: These cli- nical findings confirm the previous results obtained with Hyaloglide® and suggest that Hyaloglide® is able to reduce post-surgical adhesions in flexor tendon repair.
