Examination of erosion-induced nutrient transport to the Baltic Sea via the rivers of the Odra catchment were made. The modelling approach was based on the Universal Soil Loss Equation (USLE) and a statistical concept to specify the necessary parameters (related to soil, topography, rainfall erosivity, crop rotation and management practices) for subcatchments as related to long-term mean climatic conditions. A specific portion of calculated soil loss was taken into consideration to estimate the load of particulate and soluble nutrients flowing towards the watercourses. For the agricultural conditions in the year 1989/90, an erosion-induced load of 1882 t nitrogen (N) and 1422 t phosphorus (P) was calculated. This corresponds to specific loads of 0.148 kg ha(-1) N and 0.12 kg ha(-1) P.
