The thermal decomposition behaviour of approx. 60 nitrogen-rich substances on the basis of tetrazole and tetrazine structures was investigated by thermoanalytical methods. Decomposition mechanisms initiated by ring opening of the heterocycles could be established. Substituent effects on the exothermic decomposition characteristics of nitrogen-rich compounds am demonstrated.
The microbial degradation of nitrocellulose investigated in a composting environment appeared not to be straightforward. Depending on the degree of esterification the large nitrate groups may sterically hinder the enzymatic hydrolysis or effectively block it.
RDX products obtained at high heating rates are discussed. RDX was decomposed by combustion in pressurized bomb and by short laser pulse irradiation.
AbstractGas generators with high boron content of interest for ducted rockets were prepared and characterized. The parameters tested were: combustion residue pressure exponent flow and temperature of the ejected boron particles mechanical properties. The results of the experments (optical bomb, high speed camera, two‐color pyrometer, thermal analysis, tensile test) are presented and discussed.
A method is presented to determine thermodynamic and kinetic parameters from complex thermoanalytical curves. Such curves are obtained when thermoanalytical events like phase transition and chemical decomposition overlap.
From the Raman, infrared and electronic spectra all of the fundamental vibrational frequencies were determined for both the ground state4A2g and the excited2E g In addition some fundamental frequencies were established for the4T2g and4T1g excited states from low temperature absorption spectra.

The emission of hexafluoromanganate with various cations (K, Rb, Cs) has been studied. The observed emission has a long lifetime and is assigned as phosphorescence corresponding to the transition 2Eg → 4A2g. From both absorption and emission data the origin of the phosphorescence is located. The emission is quenched by traces of Mn(II).
A high pressure nitrogen flash lamp is described which has a half-height width of less than 200 nsec and a light output of more than 5×1014 quanta/pulse.
