Populations of Procambarus clarkii from Italian lakes, geographically distant, including newly confirmed sites and those of the first introduction in the Italian peninsula, have been investigated. We traced the dispersal routes of this invasive alien species in order to identify the typical variants of a specific (micro) geographical area in order to integrate the data in management plans concerning the expanding acclimated populations. We assessed the variability of the mitochondrial DNA control region aligning our data with the reference sequence NC_016926.1 and standardizing them to a reading range of 760bp.
