A study was conducted to evaluate the effect of roughage-based diet on growth, hematological and sero-biochemical profile and nutrient digestibilityof growing rabbit. There were three dietary treatment groups viz. traditional diet, 50% concentrate+50% roughage, 100% roughage treated as T0, T1 and T2, respectively.A total of forty-five (45) weaned crossbred New Zealand White growing rabbitswere distributed into three treatment groups each having three replications following Completely Randomized Design. From this study, it was found that weekly concentrate and DM intake was significantly influenced by 50% concentrate+50% roughage and 100% roughage diet though the FCR wasinsignificant. Final body weight, weeklybody weight and weight gain were notdiffered with roughage-baseddiet. The nutrient digestibility of DM, CP, CF, Ashand NFE was alsovaried significantly (P<0.05) among the treatment groups compared to the controlgroup except for EE.There was a significant difference existed in serological parameters (P<0.05) among the treatment groups. Our results indicate that rabbit can be reared feeding roughage although body weight gain waslittle decreased than the traditional diet and other concentrate groups.A little decreased body weight is less economic loss than feeding concentrate. So, it can be concluded that supplementation of aroughage-based diet can be used in the diet of growing rabbit.
Background: Gynecological disorders are the major challenge for Goat production profitability in Chuadanga, a goat dominating district of Bangladesh. To control the gynecological cases of goats in Chuadanga district, it is of utmost importance to estimate the prevalence of them along with their current therapeutic management. Methods: A cross sectional study was conducted from May, 2018 to April, 2019 on a total of 89 gynecological cases of goat to estimate the prevalence of different gynecological disorders along with drug prescribing patterns at Chuadanga Sadar Upazilla, Chuadanga, Bangladesh. Relevant data on different gynecological cases of goat were collected from the registered sheets of Upazilla Veterinary Hospital (UVH) and used for this study. Result: The highest prevalence of gynecological case was of anoestrous (20.2%) followed by abortion (18.0%), retained placenta (16.9%), pyometra (10.1%), dystocia (9.0%), repeat breeding (6.7%) and prolapse of the vagina (5.6%). The prevalence of metritis was 4.5% followed by milk fever (4.5%), prolapse of the rectum (3.4%) and postpartum bleeding (1.1%). Prostaglandin (25.0%) followed by a combination of oxytocin and calcium (18.8%) and combination of oxytetracycline and metronidazole (18.8%) were commonly prescribed drugs for treating abortion cases. Vitamin AD3E (33.3%) was prescribed the highest for treating anoestrous. A combination of oxytocin and oxytetracycline (33.3%), followed by oxytocin (26.6%) were predominantly prescribed for treating retained placenta. This study reveals the overall burden of reproductive disorders of goat along with drug prescribing patterns at the Chuadanga, Bangladesh. This outcome will be supportive to know the better treatment strategy against reproductive disorders in goat.

Upazilla Veterinary Hospital plays a significant role in veterinary service where lots of livestock animals are brought for treatment of various diseases. Previously, a few studies were conducted to investigate animal diseases during summer in Jhenaidah Sadar. So, the present study was aimed to estimate the proportionate prevalence of diseases and disorders and to know the pattern of antimicrobials used for the treatment of food animals during summer (March to June 2019). A total of 1588 diseased animals’ data were extracted from the paper-based hospital register book of three randomly selected Upazilla Veterinary Hospital namely Jhenaidah Sadar, Horinakundu and Kotchandpur. Out of all clinical cases, digestive disorders were the highest percentage (35.4%) in which 35.1%, 35.9%, 32.1% and 14.3% in cattle, goat, sheep, and buffalo, respectively. The overall proportionate prevalence of disease during summer was endo-parasitic (17.6%), followed by bacterial disease (11.4%), whereas the proportionate prevalence of viral disease (3.0%) was very negligible. Among total individuals cases (N=1588), A significant number of animals(n=598)were prescribed with antimicrobials in which highest percentage was sulfonamides (29.9%) followed by tetracycline(27.4%), penicillin (7.9%) and aminoglycosides (5.2%). However, among the combined drug combination of aminoglycosides and penicillin(23.7%)were prescribed most frequently. This study brings to an end that the digestive disorder was mostly prevalent disease condition during summer. So, this study would be conducive to build up a better management strategy to prevent the digestive disturbance of animals in this area.
Objective: This study was conducted to estimate the prevalence of Trichomonas gallinae infection in pigeon and determination of spatial factors related with T. gallinae infection among smallholder farms at Abhaynagar and Monirampur Upazillas, Jessore District, Bangladesh. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study has undertaken from November 24, 2017 to February 28, 2018 on randomly selected 60 pigeons from 12 smallholder farms. Wet smear technique has been used to identify T. gallinae, from swab samples collected from oropharynx and crop of the sampled birds. Results: The overall prevalence was 60% (95% CI: 46.5-72.4) in which 75% (95% CI: 55.1-89.3), 50% (95% CI: 23.0-76.9), and 44.4% (95% CI: 21.5-69.2) were in squab, adult male, and adult female, respectively. The prevalence, in the case of dead pigeons (n = 13), 69.2% showed positive to the protozoan infection in the study. On the basis of spatial distribution, T. gallinae infection in the rural area was 64% (n = 25) followed by urban area 57.1% (n = 35) of the district. The prevalence of T. gallinae was insignificantly higher at Abhaynagar upazilla in contrast to Monirampur upazilla (30%) of Jessore district. Conclusion: This research finding suggests that a significant level of (57.4%) T. gallinae infection is circulating among the pigeon population of Bangladesh. Therefore, proper housing, feeding, and disease management should be ensured by the owner to prevent this problem.
Objective: This study was constructed to build up the normal dimensions of the digestive tract of domestic Rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus). Materials and methods: Five rabbits of both sexes were used in this study. After dissection of the rabbits, the exact positions of different parts of the digestive tract (i.e., esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine) were measured using Metric rule, thread, electronic and normal balance. Results: The mean lengths of the small intestine and large intestine were 169.53±21.65 and 132.3±17.42 cm, respectively, and weight of the whole digestive tract was 263.60±56.80 gm. The mean lengths and mean diameter of esophagus, duodenum, jejunum, ileum, cecum, colon and rectum were 9.62±1.64, 41.26±4.06, 106.60±14.64, 21.64±46.32, 41.14±2.82, 83.16±13.74 and 8.0±1.08 cm and 1.16±0.12, 1.71±0.11, 1.70±0.09, 1.73±0.05, 5.47±0.15, 3.36±0.16 and 2.81±0.24 cm, respectively. Conclusion: These results can be considered as a baseline study that may assist in disease diagnosis and clinical works with rabbits.
