Satellite systems can efficiently utilize expensive and limited bandwidth and power resources, by reusing frequency bands over multibeams with provision of optimum resource allocation. This paper provides comparative analysis on the resource allocation schemes for frequency reusing multibeam satellite systems under interference-limited condition. After reviewing recent works on machine learning-aided schemes, we propose a new idea to enhance the performance. The performance estimation results investigated in this paper reveal that the proposed scheme can enhance the performance compared to the existing method.
Satellite systems serve as a crucial tool for non-terrestrial networks, offering a solution to areas where terrestrial network coverage is limited. With the advanced capabilities of modern satellite systems that leverage frequency reuse across multiple beams, the provision of efficient 6G services becomes possible worldwide. However, achieving this efficiency requires an optimal resource allocation (RA) strategy that considers the interference-limited environment and the constraints of limited power and bandwidth. This research paper provides a comprehensive review of existing studies on RA problems in interference-limited multi-beam satellite systems, specifically exploring low-complexity methods. The paper thoroughly investigates the operational principles underlying various RA methods that use simple machine learning algorithms. Additionally, it conducts an in-depth analysis of the advantages and disadvantages associated with these methods. To validate the effectiveness of the proposed low-complexity techniques, the paper presents simulation results obtained from a multi-beam satellite system operating in a Low Earth Orbit (LEO). These results serve as evidence for the efficacy of employing simple RA methods based on linear machine learning.
This paper delves into an analysis of the performance of a resource allocation scheme that harnesses beam-hopping technology within a low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite system, all within the confines of an interference-limited scenario. The primary concern lies in ensuring that the operation of the LEO system does not inadvertently trigger radio interference with the geostationary Earth orbit (GEO) satellite network, particularly when both systems share the same frequency band. Given the intricate interplay of multiple system parameters, this paper not only presents simulation outcomes contingent on varying separation distances and antenna gain characteristics but also offers a comprehensive analysis of these results. Beyond the present investigation, the paper also highlights potential avenues for future studies in this realm.
In the context of the fifth generation (5G) and beyond wireless systems, non-terrestrial networks (NTNs) are expected to play a crucial role in supporting ubiquitous connectivity and ensuring service availability, reliability, and responsiveness. In the deployed NTNs, the Ka-band is extensively utilized to support the growing demand for high-speed and high-capacity communications. This work aims to illustrate the utilization of the Ka-band for consideration in the design of spectral-efficient NTNs. First, we provide an extensive overview of NTNs, with a specific emphasis on joint spectrum management within these networks. Then, we present the current utilization of the Ka-band in various systems, such as satellite and terrestrial systems. Finally, we discuss technical challenges in deploying NTNs with the Kaband and explore potential solutions to address these challenges.
The Earth Station in Motion (ESIM) system is one of the most modern satellite systems, providing high-speed and high-capacity communication with mobility. To operate the ESIM in the Ka-band, a compatibility study with incumbent services should be considered for the protection of existing services. This paper provides a methodology to assess the interference from ESIM to an FS in the same Ka-band, taking into account the antenna pointing errors occurred inevitably by the tracking antenna system of the ESIM. Based on a point-to-point interference scenario, the simulation results show the interference distributions according to the elevation angles of the ESIM and the distances between the ESIM and FS. In addition, a separation distance of up to 38 km should be guaranteed for protecting a victim FS receiver taking the results of simulation into consideration.
In this paper, we propose an efficient resource allocation scheme for the integrated satellite/terrestrial networks. The proposed scheme is a frequency sharing technique to mitigate the inter-component interferences which can be generated between a satellite beam and terrestrial cells that are operated in the same frequency. The proposed dynamic resource allocation scheme can mitigate the total inter-component interference by optimizing the total transmission power and it can expect a result of which can lead to an increase in capacity. In such a system, the interference situation can be affected by the distributed traffic demands or up/down link communications environments. In this point of view, we evaluate the performance of the total consumed power, the amount of inter-component interference with respect to different traffic distributions and interference environments between the satellite beam and terrestrial systems.
