Degenerative disorders including Type 2 diabetes, obesity, and resultant cardiovascular complications constitute a major threat to human well-being in recent times. Since the management of these debilitating conditions presents a major challenge to the medical fraternity, together, they have been termed "Metabolic Syndrome (MetS)" or cluster of ailments arising out of a dysfunctional metabolism inside the body. The onset of MetS is characterized by increased insulin resistance, deposition of visceral fat, rise in body mass index, elevated blood pressure, and triglyceride levels as well as low high-density lipoprotein. Although no single reason can be completely held accountable for development of this multifactorial and multifaceted ailment, insulin resistance has been traced to be the most significant cause and common denominator behind development of type 2 diabetes, obesity, and cardiovascular maladies leading to gross alteration of body homeostasis and MetS. Understandably enough, in light of genetic predispositions, composition of diet plays the most important epigenetic role for leading and achieving a healthy lifestyle. Unregulated consumption of meat, poultry, and fried junk food accelerates the departure from aerobic homeostasis and the onset of MetS. On the contrary, consuming a diet rich in indigenous fruits and colorful vegetables, fish, and plenty of fluids delays aging and preserves aerobic homeostasis. This chapter aims to provide a comprehensive update on the roles of specific components of diet namely sugar, salt, and fat in the onset of MetS and associated ailments along with holistic approaches for its management.
Despite the advancement in wound care, the effective therapy of chronic diabetic ulcers continues to be a challenge. Wound healing is a highly controlled process, which involves a sequence of complex overlapping steps. This healing pathway comprises of hemostasis, inflammation, proliferative, and remodeling phases. Recent evidence suggests that phytomedicines can prevent or repair different kinds of destructive cellular damage, including chronic wounds. Several phytochemicals such as polyphenols, alkaloids, flavonoids, terpenoids, and glycosides have pleiotropic effects, including stimulation of fibroblast proliferation, the main step in wound healing. Besides, the mechanism involves induction of collagen synthesis, migration, and reepithelization and their antimicrobial, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and immunomodulatory actions. Similarly, the use of phytochemicals alone or as an adjuvant with standard therapy has demonstrated promising results in managing complications in the diabetic foot. For instance, the extract of Carica papaya has been shown antioxidant, antimicrobial, and anti-inflammatory, and immunomodulatory effects, which, together with proteolytic enzymatic activity, contributes to its wound healing property. It is generally believed that phytotherapy has no or minimal toxicity than synthetic therapeutic agents, favoring its use in diabetic foot ulcer management. The current review highlights the selected phytochemicals and their sources; and potential application in diabetic foot ulcer management.
Current agricultural practices, food processing, and extensive availability of unhealthy “fast foods” impose a broad spectrum of degenerative disorders including bacterial, viral, parasitic, fungal, and yeast infections, all of which became a leading cause of death. An infection is defined as “The invasion and growth of germs in the body.” Several of these germs are opportunistic anaerobic organisms, while their propagation and proliferation potentiate the anaerobic bio-environment alarmingly. An ideal therapeutic objective is to restore a healthier cellular “aerobic” metabolic environment. This chapter will extensively focus on three important infectious disorders (i) COVID-19 infection, (ii) Herpesvirus infection, and (iii) Candida albicans yeast infections. Disease etiology, mechanisms, and pathology will be extensively discussed. Prevention and the potential of therapeutic interventions by structurally diverse nutraceuticals, phytopharmaceuticals, probiotics, and micronutrients will be extensively reviewed.
The prevalence of obesity has increased unprecedentedly from 30.5% to 42.4% over the last two decades. Indigenous knowledge and scientific explorations have led to the development of quite a few phytochemicals as dietary supplements for its effective management. However, most of them have been rendered ineffective for long-term weight management due to poor bioavailability. Several studies have also indicated the need for regular exercise to complement the action of these bioactives. However, in spite of all meaningful endeavours for assuring effective body recomposition, the trajectory of obesity had never declined. This chapter provides a fresh update of the prevailing weight loss myths and misconceptions which have thwarted the effective management of obesity. Additionally, a novel stimulant and sugar free bioencapsulated formulation of phytoceuticals is discussed which has the potential to curb obesity and ensure a holistic solution for the well-being of the body.
The researchers demonstrate the development of a novel Prodosome technology-derived PL425 PEC phytonutrient-enriched electrolyte formulation and its significant contribution in fluid homeostasis as well as enhanced neuromuscular function, cardio-protection, pulmonary, and other physiological cellular and organ functions. Electrolytes enriched in phytonutrients including polyphenolic bioflavonoids, anthocyanins, saccharides, sulforaphanes, carotenoids and exotic spices, in conjunction with a full spectrum of sea water-derived electrolytes, such as sodium, chloride, potassium, calcium, phosphate, magnesium and bicarbonate, along with vitamin C, all of which are encapsulated in the proprietary Prodosome technology enabling enhanced bioavailability. This technology will maintain important biological functions including metabolic and energy homeostasis, pH equilibration, free radical inhibition, cell-to-cell communication, muscular integrity, enhanced neuronal, cardiovascular, pulmonary, and kidney functions. Moreover, these phytonutrients and electrolytes enhance energy metabolism, ATP production, and activate nitric oxide production without L-Arginine. Ongoing research studies are in progress.
Background: Every biochemical transaction in the body utilizes enzymes. Insufficient enzyme availability leads to impaired digestive health, which tolls approximately 200 million sick days, 50 million visits to physicians, 16.9 million days lost from school, 10 million hospitalizations, and a total of 200,000 deaths per year. Chronic digestive problems can progress to stomach ulcers, inflammatory bowel diseases and colorectal cancer. Digestive enzymes play an intricate role in vital bio-metabolic functions including disintegration, dissolution, absorption, and metabolism of ingested foods to obtain essential nutrients, including amino and fatty acids, cholesterol, carbohydrates, vitamins, and micronutrients for the growth, metabolism, antioxidant protection, and immune-boosting benefits to the body. Moreover, proper digestive enzymes significantly improve gastro-intestinal integrity, immunity, cellular functionality and overall health. An ageing population is at increased risk for suboptimal enzyme availability and are more prone to experiencing indigestion, gas, bloating, disrupted gut health, and malnutrition. Disrupted digestive system can impair and exhaust metabolic capabilities and immune health. Sedentary lifestyle, improper nutrition and advanced age-induced decline in digestive enzymes are the major causes of microbiome imbalances, incomplete digestion, and induction of several degenerative diseases and dysfunctions. Moreover, enzyme availability is a rate-limiting factor, not just for digestion, but to a host of systemic metabolic activities. A state-of-the-art KD120 Prodosomed multienzyme complex (MEC) was engineered consisting of natural protease, amylase, lipases, alpha-galactosidase, and glucoamylase from natural sources, and encapsulated in a SK713 SLP (non-GMO soy lecithin phospholipid) Prodosome® absorption technology, which enables rapid absorption beginning in the sublingual mucosa, reduces degradation in the stomach, and then facilitates absorption through the intestinal mucosa starting in the duodenum. The formulation is activated in a pH ranging from 6.0 to 8.5, in contrast to other enzyme formulations, and is directed to be taken in an empty stomach. The Prodosome® technology facilitates rapid absorption and bioavailability of these encapsulated natural enzymes. Earlier clinical studies exhibited that intervention with N-SORB improves sleep, gastrointestinal functions and neuroendocrine benefits. Objective: A randomized, double-blind placebo-controlled study was conducted to determine the safety and efficacy of N-SORB KD120 MEC in healthy male and female volunteers on several important hematological parameters, digestive and immune health, physical well being, and quality of life over a 90-day intervention. Furthermore, eleven physician’s supervised case studies in male and female subjects, ranging from 20 and 71 years old with comprised digestion, immune and metabolic maladies, were performed. Methods: A total of forty-six healthy volunteers (male = 25; female = 21; age: 25.8 12.1 years) were randomly assigned to receive either N-SORB (1 mL, twice daily), prepared in a Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP)-NSF certified facility, or placebo over a period of 90 consecutive days. All subjects were instructed to possess an honest healthy lifestyle during this clinical investigation. A total of 40 subjects completed the study. Body weight, BMI, lean mass, fat mass, bone mineral mass and total blood chemistry were assessed. Complete blood count, as well as blood glucose, liver enzymes, and lipid profile were assessed pre- and postintervention. Serum cytokine levels were determined by using a Bio-Plex Pro Human Cytokine 8-plex assay and ELISA. Whole body composition analysis was performed by dualenergy X-Ray absorptiometry (DEXA) to work out body fat mass, lean mass and android and gynoid fat. Body weight, vital sign , and physical health were assessed. Changes in quality of life were examined using the World Health Organization Quality of Life- abbreviated version (WHOQOL-BREF) and sleep quality was assessed using the 24-item Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) questionnaire. Adverse events were monitored before, during and after completion of the study. Case studies were conducted in 11 subjects and all necessary permissions were obtained. Physician’s (Dr. S. Schutz) supervised case studies were conducted in 4 female and 2 male subjects (age = 69-; 20+-, 30+- and 30+ years, respectively), suffering from digestive problems, who consumed N-SORB (1-1ml packet BID on an empty stomach with the last packet immediately before bedtime) over a period of 3 months in 3 subjects and 1 month in the 4th subject, respectively. While in the second set, two male subjects (age = 71- and 40+ years), suffering from impaired digestion, consumed N-SORB (1-1ml packet BID with the last packet consumed prior to bedtime) over a period of 7 days to 3 months in two subjects, respectively. In another independent case study conducted under physician supervision at the Center for Bioindividualized Medicine, one male (age = 60), suffering from chronic fatigue syndrome, chronic musculoskeletal pain and digestion; and four female subjects (age = 43-, 46-, 51-, and 56 years, respectively), suffering from fatigue, depression, anxiety, compromised gastrointestinal and digestive functions, leaky gut syndrome, joint pain, obsessive compulsive disorder and hypothyroidism, consumed N-SORB (1-1ml packet BID) over a period of 1-3 months. Results: A total of 40 subjects successfully completed the clinical investigation. Compared to placebo, changes in blood cell counts including hematocrit, hemoglobin, mean corpuscular volume, platelets and lymphocytes provide evidence indicating consistent trends of improvement. Digestion was significantly improved. Quality of Life (QOL) parameters showed a small but significant improvement in the N-SORB group. A significant increase was observed in AST level in the placebo group at the end of 90 days of treatment, however, no increase was observed in the N-SORB group. No significant changes in BUN, serum creatinine, ALP, ALT, and lipid profile were observed between the placebo and treatment groups before and following 90-day intervention. In both the case studies conducted independently by the physician(s), respectively. Significant improvement in gastrointestinal and digestive functions were observed, along with other systemic improvements. No adverse events were reported in the clinical investigation and case studies. Conclusion: This clinical investigation demonstrates that 90-day intervention with N-SORB demonstrated significant improvement in digestion, immunity, sleep quality and other health parameters. Improvements were observed in RBC, QOL and PSQI in the N-SORB young health volunteers; and didn’t significantly alter cardiometabolic parameters, lipid profile or body composition. Case studies in eleven subjects significantly improved both digestive and immune health along with other systemic improvements. Overall, N-SORB boosts digestive health, immunity, sleep quality and overall metabolic health.
Obesity and overweight are now defined as an epidemic. An array of evidence substantiates that existing weight loss strategies and programs have not worked. Fat is the lightest of macromolecules, the highest energy reserve of the body, and the last reservoir of survival insurance to be expended. Conventional weight loss concepts and therapies, for the most part, are based on two primary factors; people eat too much and don’t exercise enough. However, with the increase in gym memberships there has also been a significant increase in the purchase of more wholesome foods. The trajectory of obesity therefore should be decreasing; but it’s not. Furthermore, even the culturally ingrained term “weight loss” itself establishes “heaviness” as the primary criteria for evaluating body composition and size, i.e., scale weight, an inaccurate and erroneous measuring criterion owing to additional variables. An additional 10 factors that contribute to a reduction in metabolic rate and an increase in fat storage have been identified. Individually or in combination, these factors are almost totally ignored or omitted from considerations regarding the etiology of obesity. We developed TrimRox, a stimulant‐ and sugar‐free Prodosomed® TRCAP21 nutraceutical technology, utilizing six standardized extracts comprising of D‐ribose nicotinamide complex, Gynostemma pentaphyllum leaf extract, Myrciaria Dubia whole‐berry extract, Ilex guayusa Loes. (Guayusa) leaf extract, Purple Tea Camellia sinensis extract (PurpleForce™), and alpha Glyceryl phosphoryl choline that effectively addresses all the contributing factors. A 21‐day concept validation physician‐supervised pilot study on the TRCAP21 was conducted in 9 subjects to assess changes in various body parts, including chest, upper arms, waist/belly, hips, and thighs, as well as body weight. The results demonstrated that all subjects experienced a significant reduction in size of one or more of these body parts and significant reduction in body weight. A randomized double‐blind placebo‐controlled study is in progress.
Background: The prevalence of obesity has increased an astounding 30.5% to 42.2% over the last two decades despite numerous weight loss products and programs, thus qualifying it as an epidemic. Fat is the lightest of macromolecules, the highest energy reserve of the body, and the last reservoir of survival insurance to be expended. Water, muscle, and electrolytes are diminished prior to the expenditure of fat resources, the primary cause of rapid weight loss. Contrary to popular belief that only “weight gain” is the sole and correct parameter for evaluating healthy body recomposition, there are no less than 10 additional factors that contribute to a reduction in metabolic rate and an increase in fat storage. These are mostly ignored from considerations regarding the etiology of obesity. Our laboratory developed a novel formulation of D-ribose nicotinamide, alpha glycerol phosphorylcholine and four other evidence-based botanical constituents encapsulated in a Prodosomed stimulant- and sugar-free TRCAP21 (TrimRoxTM) formulation that effectively addresses those contributing factors. To investigate the feasibility of doing a 90-day randomized, double-blind placebo-controlled investigation, we conducted a 21-day concept validation pilot study on TRCAP21 in 9 subjects to assess changes in various body parts, including chest, upper arms, waist/belly, hips, and thighs, as well as body weight. Objective: This physician-supervised 21-day concept validation pilot study on TRCAP21 was conducted on 9 subjects to determine changes in anthropometric parameters including chest, upper arms, waist/belly, hips, and thighs, as well as body weight, and determine the effect of TRCAP21 on energy, mood, satiety, and sugar cravings. Materials and Methods: The study was conducted on nine male and female subjects (age: 47-70 years) to assess the efficacy of TrimRoxTM over a period of 21 consecutive days. Body weights and anthropometric measurements were conducted at the initiation and termination of the study. The effect of TRCAP21 was evaluated on energy level, mood elevation, satiety level, sugar cravings, overall health, and adverse events in the subjects. Results: The results demonstrated that all subjects experienced a reduction in size of one or more these body parts. In addition, it also led to significant improvements in mood elevation, satiety, reduced sugar cravings, elevated energy levels and overall mental and physical health. Intake of 1 packet twice a day (BID) before meals resulted in a significantly greater reduction of body measurements than consuming it once a day (OID). Surprisingly, body weight was reduced in all nine subjects from 2 lbs. to 11 lbs. The randomized double-blind placebo-controlled study is underway to confirm and further substantiate these findings. Conclusion: The TRCAP21 Prodosomed nutraceutical formulation combines the evidence-based efficacy of 6 key constituents, mostly of botanical origin, that act synergistically to restore aerobic cellular metabolism, boost energy level, mood elevation, improve satiety, reduce sugar cravings, reduce body fat in various body compartments as well as weight and improve overall health. Owing to the encapsulation of the components in unique concentric layers of liposome, their release takes place in a sustained and sequential manner. It will be worthwhile to explore its effect on the Gut-Brain Axis, especially the associated microbiome in order to obtain further insights to more accurately define the multiple mechanisms of action. The onset of inflammation takes place in a human body due to an injury or infection during which the tissue becomes inflamed/reddened, swollen, hot, and painful. Basically, it is a collection of host defenses that occurs during an injury and infection in which the white blood cells protect the body from infection from bacteria, fungi, parasites, or viruses. Innate immunity provides the first challenging defense against the diverse foreign harmful invaders, while adaptive immunity, also known as acquired immunity, utilizes specialized immune cells and antibodies, which provide a counterattack and destroy these diverse foreign invaders. Moreover, they can prevent infections/diseases in the future by recognizing those invaders and providing a new immune response. However, when an immune system responds too aggressively to an infection, a condition termed a cytokine storm takes place, which may lead to multi-organ failure and even death. Inflammatory response in advancing age and obesity is intricately associated. Obesity has been identified as a low-grade systemic inflammatory response. Particularly, elevated levels of serum C-reactive protein, interleukin-6, tumor necrosis factor-α, and leptin, well characterized biomarkers of inflammation, are observed predominantly in obese individuals.
In this nonsystematic review and opinion, including articles primarily selected from PubMed, we examine the pharmacological and nonpharmacological treatments of neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS) in order to craft a reasonable opinion to help forge a paradigm shift in the treatment and prevention of primarily opioid-induced NAS. Newborns of individuals who use illicit and licit substances during pregnancy are at risk for withdrawal, also known as NAS. In the US, the reported prevalence of NAS has increased from 4.0 per 1000 hospital births in 2010 to 7.3 per 1000 hospital births in 2017, which is an 82% increase. The management of NAS is varied and involves a combination of nonpharmacologic and pharmacologic therapy. The preferred first-line pharmacological treatment for NAS is opioid therapy, specifically morphine, and the goal is the short-term improvement in NAS symptomatology. Nonpharmacological therapies are individualized and typically focus on general care measures, the newborn–parent/caregiver relationship, the environment, and feeding. When used appropriately, nonpharmacologic therapies can help newborns with NAS avoid or reduce the amount of pharmacologic therapy required and the length of hospitalization. In addition, genetic polymorphisms of the catechol-o-methyltransferase (COMT) and mu-opioid receptor (OPRM1) genes appear to affect the length of stay and the need for pharmacotherapy in newborns with prenatal opioid exposure. Therefore, based on this extensive literature and additional research, this team of coauthors suggests that, in the future, in addition to the current nonpharmacological therapies, patients with opioid-induced NAS should undergo genetic assessment (i.e., the genetic addiction risk severity (GARS) test), which can subsequently be used to guide DNA-directed precision amino-acid enkephalinase inhibition (KB220) therapy as a frontline modality instead of potent opioids.
SARS-COV2 has emerged as the second biggest threat to humanity of all times, after the Spanish Flu massacre. Due to its brisk rate of mutation, especially that of the host receptor docking Spike protein, a safe immunization is still questioned by some, and protection or recovery has been dependent largely on immune system competence and overall bio-constitutional strength. In order to ensure optimal performance of the body’s immune cells, proper nutrition fortified with functional food ingredients is indispensable. Especially in a scenario where targeted therapeutics against life threatening pandemics like SARS-CoV2 are yet to be invented, formulation of dietary supplements rich in antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals is the need of the hour to promote greater immuno-competence and a heightened immune response; decrease the overall metabolic burden; and restore homeostasis in an infected individual. This review highlights our current understanding and advances made in the regimen of functional foods designed to combat viral diseases together with the shortcomings involved therein.
Background:Conventional medical therapies for neurodegenerative diseases primarily target anti-inflammatory interventions, immune suppression of autoimmune pathologies, and, depending on the diagnosed pathological mechanisms, neurotransmitter reuptake inhibition, among other tactics. However, the incidence of neuroinflammatory pathologies appears to be progressively increasing. The National Institutes of Health, National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences in 2016, estimated that 5.4 million Americans were living with Alzheimer's. If no effective solutions are found and implemented, within 30 years of this publication, according to data from Harvard, more than 12 million Americans will suffer from neurodegenerative diseases. Methods:Rather than investigating greater etiological depth, modern medicine seems to have been designed to addressing obvious symptomologies to relieve suffering for as long as possible until neuropathological progress inevitably wins in achieving complete functional disability and death. Researchers are reporting herein evidence-based effective treatment therapies that are outside conventional medical standard of care therapies. Conclusion:These therapies are the result of a deeper exploration into etiological factors, including an expanded understanding of the role of anaerobic pathologies in the etiology of neuroinflammatory disorders and methods of reverting to a competent aerobic metabolism. Such therapies include a liquid VMP35 MNC; a greater focus on viral mechanistic pathologies and their remission; and understanding of the genetic basis for a loss of neurological interconnectivity and consequential reward deficiencies in combination with neuronutrient deficiencies, enabling neuronutrient repletion with nutrigenomic therapies such as the KB220Z.
Metabolic competence in conjunction with well-balanced nutritional support is extremely important for normal biochemical and physiological functions, as well as for enhanced athletic performance. Research-affirmed nutraceuticals enriched in structurally diverse phytonutrients including bioflavonoids may help to boost athletic, functional, and biophysiological competence. Occurrence of chronic degenerative disorders is associated with an increase in anaerobic events, namely, the inability to effectively use oxygen and water, and inability to use nutrients for cellular energy production and management, metabolic homeostasis, and waste removal. Earlier clinical studies in our laboratories using the WADA compliant bioflavonoid-enriched Prodosomed VMP35 Multinutrient Complex (“Prodovite®”) demonstrated that it boosted aerobic metabolic competence and provided protection against diverse chronic degenerative anaerobic disorders. We hypothesized that Prodosomed VMP35 may serve as a novel supplement to boost athletic performance. The objective of the study was to conduct selected focused pilot studies to demonstrate the efficacy of a WADA compliant Prodosomed VMP35 to improve athletic competence and performance in a variety of sports activities. The efficacy of VMP35 was assessed in different models of sports performance/athletic competence including power lifting, resistance training, cycling, and selected case studies. VMP35 supplementation restored aerobic metabolic events, minimized oxidative stress, and improved athletic performance, recovery, and immune competence. These pilot clinical studies demonstrate that iron-free VMP35 restores aerobic metabolism by restoring iron-dependent hemoglobin to red blood cells, bolstering neutrophils in the blood (immune support), and significantly improving performance output in a diverse range of athletic activities.
An increase in anaerobic (oxygen-deprived) pathogenesis significantly increases the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) inflicting damage on cell membranes and intracellular constituents. Generation of ROS and concomitant inflammatory response is the two hallmarks of cellular damage caused by cellular injury or invasion by pathogens. Oxygen deprivation, as opposed to oxygen deficiency, is a major contributor to oxidative stress and damage, cytokine production, and inflammation. When our cells are unable to efficiently and effectively utilize the oxygen to facilitate aerobic glycolysis and other cellular metabolic events, the oxygen instead oxidizes cell membranes, lipids, neurons, cross-links proteins, damages DNA, and initiates inflammation among other consequences. These anaerobic events are hallmarks of chronic degenerative diseases (CDD). Excessive demands to curtail oxidative damage can overburden endogenous antioxidative capabilities. A key treatment strategy to tackle the adverse effects of inflammation involves the augmentation of the structural integrity and functional competence of cellular materials, reducing the impact and consequences of tissue insult; the generation of ROS; and the cascade of subsequent pathological disorders. Moreover, restoration of cellular aerobic metabolic events, such as aerobic glycolysis and oxidative respiration, is an equally important collateral goal. A healthy diet and supplementation, providing an abundance of exogenous sources of antioxidants and a host of phytochemical dietary components, becomes even more important to restore aerobic metabolism; augment and assist in improving cellular structural integrity, and thereby reducing oxidative stress, damage, and inflammatory sequela. VMP35 MNC, a research-affirmed Prodosomed nutraceutical technology-based phytonutrient formulation, enriched in structurally diverse bioflavonoids, polyphenols, and phenolic saccharides, etc., have been shown to boost cellular structural integrity and physiological functions, and restore aerobic metabolic competence including for athletic performance as well as for general well-being. This review provides a strategic approach for the design of a novel Prodosomed VMP35 Multinutrient/phytoceutical complex and to evaluate its ability to reverse anaerobic pathologies, including inflammation, and restore healthy cellular aerobic glycolysis.
Electrolytes and fluids are mandatory for the proper functioning of the cells, tissues, and organs in the body. Electrolytes including sodium, chloride, potassium, calcium, phosphate, magnesium, and bicarbonate, and selected phytopharmaceuticals along with vitamin C maintain important biological properties such as physiological pH in various tissue compartments, otherwise adverse health consequences can occur. These constituents are crucial for the basic physiological functions including metabolic and energy homeostasis, inhibiting oxygen free radical generation, free radical scavenging, cell communications, cardiovascular well-being, muscle performance, and pH balancing, etc. Electrolytes are continuously eliminated through urine, sweat, feces, skin sloughing, and menstruation. A deficiency of alkalinizing electrolyte buffers induces chronic anemia syndrome, currently misconceptualized as iron deficiency anemia, due to the expenditure of alkalinizing histidine from the iron-bound heme protein. The iron is not excreted but is repartitioned from the blood to other tissues. Therefore, restoration of these electrolytes is very important for preventing non-genetic anemia and for normal physiological and biochemical functions. A proprietary Prodosome Technology integrates solar dried electrolytes and phytopharmaceuticals to optimize electrolyte performance. Whole food concentrates and botanical extracts augment electrolyte functions and ATP production, boosting nitric oxide without L-Arginine. A preliminary investigation exhibited clinical efficacy in volunteers. Ongoing studies are in progress.
World statistics indicate that approximately 1.93 billion people suffer from anemia. Anemia is intricately linked to overindulgence of dietary fat, salt, and sugar-induced chronic inflammation, chronic kidney disease, gastrointestinal and gynecological malignancies, and autoimmune disorders. Hemorrhagic anemia results in substantial loss of blood which causes significant alterations in all blood parameters, including reduced iron. We hypothesize that chronic anemia syndrome is a constellation of disorders and chronic inflammatory events caused by an increasing anaerobic/acidic environment and thereby inducing a defensive expenditure of alkalinizing buffers in hemoglobin (i.e., histidine) to prevent a dangerous lowering of blood pH. We developed a novel, patent-pending noniron nutraceutical supplement, VMP35 MNC (Prodovite), and conducted a controlled one-way crossover clinical study in 38 men and women to evaluate the rate of absorption and effects on hematological parameters using live blood cell imaging with phase contrast microscopy. Two independent case studies were also reported in this review. Taken together VMP35 MNC (Prodovite) exhibited potential benefits in hematological parameters. No adverse events were reported.
BACKGROUND:A common neurological condition worldwide is Reward Deficiency Syndrome (RDS) leading to both substance and non-substance addictive behaviors, that must be combatted by integrating both central nervous system and peripheral nervous system biological approaches. Integrity of hemoglobin is a crucial determining factor for the overall health functions. Nutrient repletion therapy should be a fundamental strategy to restore the healthy properties of blood. A unique patent-pending iron-free VMP35 formulation was engineered by our laboratory to restore iron-dependent hemoglobin in anemic cells using a proprietary Prodosome® absorption technology. This formulation, containing an array of nano-emulsified botanical ingredients rich in bioflavonoids, strengthens the structural integrity of connective tissues, and potentiates immune competence, cellular aerobic metabolism, and enhances efficient regulation of inflammatory events. We discuss the intricate aspects of strong vs. fragile immunity and consequential inflammatory responses to convey a deeper understanding of the varied and overly complex sequela of immunological behaviors and events. The effect of the VMP35 is mediated through highly absorbable nutritional/nutrigenomic repletion enabling improvements in the systemic set of functional behaviors. In fact, the iron-free VMP35 facilitates a "Systems Biology Approach" which restores hemoglobin status, reverses anaerobic hypoxia, improves competent immune responsivity, and regulates appropriate and controlled activation of general and neuro-inflammatory sequela. Under these pathogenic circumstances, iron-deficiency anemia has been misconceptualized, and a new nosological term, Chronic Anemia Syndrome, is proposed. The comparative therapeutic rationale of Reductionist vs. Systems Biology approaches is also explained in detail.METHODS:The efficacy of the novel therapeutic iron-free VMP35 liquid nutraceutical is detailed in restoring iron-dependent hemoglobin to RBCs and boosting cellular morphology, viability, and immune competence, thereby reducing the need for prolonging inflammatory sequela.RESULTS:This was demonstrated in a previous IRB approved multi-subject human study. In addition, two recent case studies report dramatic restorative benefits of nutrient repletion therapy of the VMP35 on subjects having experienced near-fatal events, which confirmed the findings explained in this manuscript.CONCLUSIONS:This novel iron-free VMP35 modulates an array of homeostatic biological parameters such as enhanced hemoglobinization, aerobic metabolism, viral immuno-competence, and inflammatory regulation. Further research, examining mechanistic and beneficial effects in athletic performance, is in progress. Importantly, during these troubled immune challenging times, modulating an array of homeostatic immunological and inflammatory dysfunctions are tantamount to improved population outcomes.TRIAL REGISTRATION:The Clinical investigation in a total of 38 subjects was conducted under an Institutional Review Board (IRB) from the Path Foundation in New York, NY (#13-009 April 25, 2013). The two case studies were done at Lancaster General Hospital, Lancaster, PA, and Jefferson University Hospital, Philadelphia, PA, USA. Both studies were retrospectively registered.
The purpose of this editorial is to inform the entire scientific community, but more importantly the clinicians and professional on the front-line of caring for the victims of individuals with Reward Deficiency Syndrome (RDS) and a remarkable array of addictive, impulsive and compulsive behaviors. Over the last two decades, changes in the nomenclature of addictions suggest a significant shift in the conceptualization of addictions, where non-substance related behaviors can also be classified as addictions. A large amount of data provides empirical evidence that there are overlaps of different types of addictive behaviors in etiology, phenomenology, and in the underlying psychological and biological mechanisms. Recent results suggest a large overlap between the existence of these addictions and behaviors and underlies the importance of analyzing the possible common psychological, genetic and neural pathways. Most importantly, exhaustive data to date, further support concepts such as the Reward Deficiency Syndrome and the component model of addictions that propose a common phenomenological and etiological background of different addictive and related behaviors. With this information and known mechanisms of various neurotransmitter interactions in the brain reward circuitry, we should be “thinking out of the box” in face of a serious devastating opioid and other drugs crisis. We question the wisdom of the continued utilization of only reducing harm and not epigenetically attempting to repair either the trait (genetic) or state (epigenetic) neurochemistry of the brain reward circuit, especially during the known unwanted fatalities of modern day. The Opioid Crisis as eloquently discussed in Oesterle., et al. echoes these remarks. Finally, we are proposing that, in order, to successfully combat the widespread abuse of drugs and even non-drug behaviors (e.g. gambling etc.), one option, is to consider induction of “dopamine homeostasis” WC 285.
