The synthesis is described of a 2-chloro-6,9-dihydro-5,9-methanobenzo[7]annulen-10(5H)-one 4 and the corresponding 8,9-dihydro-5,8-methano[7]annulen-10(5H)-one analogue 5 which are converted into amine derivatives 2 and 3.
