ABSTRACT Objective to describe the normal features of the caudo‐thalamic groove at antenatal brain ultrasound in a group of structurally normal fetuses at third trimester and to report a small series of cases with abnormal appearance of the caudothalamic groove at antenatal brain ultrasound. Methods This was an observational study conducted at two referral Fetal Medicine units. A non‐consecutive cohort of pregnant women with a singleton non anomalous pregnancy were prospectively recruited and underwent 3D ultrasound of the fetal brain at 28‐32 weeks. At offline analysis the ultrasound volumes were adjusted in the multiplanar mode according to a standardized methodology, until the caudothalamic groove was visible on the parasagittal plane. To evaluate the inter‐observer agreement, two operators were independently asked to indicate if the caudothalamic groove was visible unilaterally or bilaterally on each volume. The digital archives of the two Centres were also retrospectively searched to retrieve cases with abnormal findings at the level of the caudothalamic groove at antenatal brain ultrasound which were postnatally confirmed. Results 180 non‐consecutive cases fulfilling the inclusion criteria were prospectively included. At offline analysis of the 3D US volumes the caudo‐thalamic groove was identified on the parasagittal plane by both operators at least unilaterally in 176 cases (97.8%) and bilaterally in 174 cases (96.6%). The K‐coefficient for the agreement between the two independent operators in recognizing the caudo‐thalamic groove was 0.89 and 0.83 on one and both hemispheres respectively. At the retrospective search of our archives 5 cases with abnormal appearance of the groove at antenatal brain ultrasound (2 haemorrhage and 3 cyst) were found. Conclusion Our study has demonstrated that the caudo‐thalamic groove is consistently seen among normal fetuses at third trimester submitted to multiplanar neurosonography and that abnormal findings at this level may be antenatally detected. To identify potential risk factors for bladder injury during cesarean section (CS). We conducted an observational case–control study from 2009 to 2024 at our Tertiary Care Hospital, matching each bladder injury case with four controls. Additionally, a systematic review and meta-analysis of the literature was performed using MEDLINE, CINAHL, and Scopus, from inception to 2024; eligible studies were case–control studies assessing risk factors for bladder injury during CS. Random-effects regression with the restricted maximum likelihood method was employed for the meta-analysis. We identified 23 cases of bladder injury out of 15,260 CSs at our hospital, resulting in a rate of 0.15
PURPOSE:To investigate whether congenital heart diseases exhibit higher rates in pregnancies achieved through assisted reproductive technology (ART) compared to natural conception. METHODS:In this retrospective cohort study, multinomial logistic regression was employed to analyze the relationship between categories of congenital heart diseases and three conception groups (IVF, ICSI, and natural pregnancies). The main outcome measures are risks of congenital heart disease categories in IVF and ICSI groups using the natural group as reference. We selected fetuses referred for fetal echocardiography to IRCCS Policlinico Sant'Orsola, Bologna, between January 2005 and November 2023, diagnosed with congenital heart diseases. RESULTS:We categorized the congenital heart diseases into six groups based on anatomical and embryological criteria. The estimated risk of left ventricular outflow tract, valvular, conotruncal, and atrioventricular septal defects was lower in the IVF group compared to natural conception. The estimated risk of valvular and atrioventricular septal defects was lower in the ICSI group vs natural. Conversely, the risk for right heart anomalies was higher both in the IVF and ICSI groups compared to natural conception. Heart rhythm diseases were more frequent in IVF pregnancies. When comparing ART methods, valvular defects, conotruncal defects, and right heart anomalies were more frequently observed in the ICSI group, while atrioventricular septal defects were more common in the IVF group. CONCLUSION:Significant differences were found in the occurrence of congenital heart diseases in pregnancies conceived through IVF and ICSI, versus those conceived naturally, underscoring the importance of further studying the underlying mechanisms of these associations.
OBJECTIVE:To determine the diagnostic accuracy of prenatal ultrasound in detecting coarctation of the aorta (CoA). METHODS:An individual participant data meta-analysis was performed to report on the strength of association and diagnostic accuracy of different ultrasound signs in detecting CoA prenatally. MEDLINE, EMBASE and CINAHL were searched for studies published between January 2000 and November 2021. Inclusion criteria were fetuses with suspected isolated CoA, defined as ventricular and/or great vessel disproportion with right dominance on ultrasound assessment. Individual participant-level data were obtained by two leading teams. PRISMA-IPD and PRISMA-DTA guidelines were used for extracting data, and the QUADAS-2 tool was used for assessing quality and applicability. The reference standard was CoA, defined as narrowing of the aortic arch, diagnosed after birth. The most commonly evaluated parameters on ultrasound, both in B-mode and on Doppler, constituted the index test. Summary estimates of sensitivity, specificity, diagnostic odds ratio (DOR) and likelihood ratios were computed using the hierarchical summary receiver-operating-characteristics model. RESULTS:The initial search yielded 72 studies, of which 25 met the inclusion criteria. Seventeen studies (640 fetuses) were included. On random-effects logistic regression analysis, tricuspid valve/mitral valve diameter ratio > 1.4 and > 1.6, aortic isthmus/arterial duct diameter ratio < 0.7, hypoplastic aortic arch (all P < 0.001), aortic isthmus diameter Z-score of < -2 in the sagittal (P = 0.003) and three-vessel-and-trachea (P < 0.001) views, pulmonary artery/ascending aorta diameter ratio > 1.4 (P = 0.048) and bidirectional flow at the foramen ovale (P = 0.012) were independently associated with CoA. Redundant foramen ovale was inversely associated with CoA (P = 0.037). Regarding diagnostic accuracy, tricuspid valve/mitral valve diameter ratio > 1.4 had a sensitivity of 72.6% (95% CI, 48.2-88.3%), specificity of 65.4% (95% CI, 46.9-80.2%) and DOR of 5.02 (95% CI, 1.82-13.9). The sensitivity and specificity values were, respectively, 75.0% (95% CI, 61.1-86.0%) and 39.7% (95% CI, 27.0-53.4%) for pulmonary artery/ascending aorta diameter ratio > 1.4, 47.8% (95% CI, 14.6-83.0%) and 87.6% (95% CI, 27.3-99.3%) for aortic isthmus diameter Z-score of < -2 in the sagittal view and 74.1% (95% CI, 58.0-85.6%) and 62.0% (95% CI, 41.6-78.9%) for aortic isthmus diameter Z-score of < -2 in the three-vessel-and-trachea view. Hypoplastic aortic arch had a sensitivity of 70.0% (95% CI, 42.0-88.6%), specificity of 91.3% (95% CI, 78.6-96.8%) and DOR of 24.9 (95% CI, 6.18-100). The diagnostic yield of prenatal ultrasound in detecting CoA did not change significantly when considering multiple categorical parameters. Five of the 11 evaluated continuous parameters were independently associated with CoA (all P < 0.001) but all had low-to-moderate diagnostic yield. CONCLUSIONS:Several prenatal ultrasound parameters are associated with an increased risk for postnatal CoA. However, diagnostic accuracy is only moderate, even when combinations of parameters are considered. © 2024 The Authors. INTRODUCTION:Immune checkpoint inhibitors are extensively used in present-day clinical practice for treating many types of cancers at different stages. To date, there are scarce data on the use of immunotherapy in pregnancy. Immune-related adverse events are a typical consequence of this therapy miming autoimmune diseases. CASE PRESENTATION:A 35-year-old woman (G1P0) diagnosed with gastric carcinoma underwent neoadjuvant chemotherapy followed by surgery. During follow-up, axillary metastasis was discovered, radiotherapy failed, and consequently immunotherapy was started. Concurrently, pregnancy ensued. Despite potential risks, the patient opted to continue immunotherapy and the pregnancy. At 31 weeks, fetal bowel dilation was noted. Subsequently, the fetus also developed fetal growth restriction. A cesarean section was performed at 35 weeks. The newborn required repeated bowel resections for necrotizing enterocolitis, necessitating extensive medical intervention. The mother continues pembrolizumab treatment with a positive response. CONCLUSION:To the best of our knowledge, this might constitute a possible case of a fetal immune-related adverse event after immunotherapy in utero exposure.
Background—There are conflicting data in the international literature on the risks of abnormal fetal growth in fetuses presenting an isolated single umbilical artery (SUA), and the pathophysiology of this complication is poorly understood. Objective—To evaluate if changes in diameter of the remaining umbilical artery in fetuses presenting an isolated SUA are associated with different fetal growth patterns. Study design—This was a two-center prospective longitudinal observational study including 164 fetuses diagnosed with a SUA at the 20–22-week detailed ultrasound examination and 200 control fetuses with a three-vessel cord. In all cases, the diameters of the cord vessels were measured in a transverse view of the central portion of the umbilical cord, and the number of cord vessels was confirmed at delivery. Logistic regression and nonparametric receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis were carried out to evaluate the association of the umbilical artery diameter in a single artery with small for-gestational age (SGA) and with fetal growth restriction (FGR). The impact of artery dimension was adjusted for maternal BMI, parity, ethnicity, side of the remaining umbilical artery and umbilical resistance index (RI) in the regression model. Results—A significantly (p < 0.001) larger mean diameter was found for the remaining artery in fetuses with SUA compared with controls (3.0 ± 0.9 vs. 2.5 ± 0.6 mm). After controlling for BMI and parity, we found no difference in umbilical resistance and side of the remaining umbilical artery between the SUA and control groups. A remaining umbilical artery diameter of >3.1 mm was found to be associated with a lower risk of FGR, but this association failed to be statistical significant (OR = 0.60, 95% CI = 0.33–1.09, p value = 0.089). We also found that the mean vein-to-artery area ratio was significantly (p < 0.001) increased in the SUA group as compared with the controls (2.4 ± 1.8 vs. 1.8 ± 0.9; mean difference = 0.6; Cohen’s d = 0.46). Conclusion—In most fetuses with isolate SUA, the remaining artery diameter at 20-22 weeks is significantly larger than in controls. When there are no changes in the diameter and, in particular, if it remains <3.1 mm, the risk of abnormal fetal growth is higher, and measurements of the diameter of the remaining artery could be used to identify fetuses at risk of FGR later in pregnancy.
ABSTRACTObjectivesTo describe the appearance and size of the ganglionic eminence (GE) in normal fetuses on midtrimester three‐dimensional (3D) neurosonography and to report on the association between GE alterations (cavitation or enlargement) and malformation of cortical development (MCD).MethodsThis was a prospective multicenter cohort study of normal fetuses and a retrospective analysis of pathological cases with MCD. From January 2022 to June 2022, patients attending our tertiary centers for an expert fetal brain scan were recruited for the purpose of the study. A 3D volume of the fetal head, starting from the sagittal plane, was acquired in apparently normal fetuses using a transabdominal or transvaginal approach. Stored volume datasets were then evaluated independently by two expert operators. Two measurements (longitudinal diameter and transverse diameter) of the GE in the coronal view were obtained twice by each operator. Intra‐ and interobserver measurement variation was calculated. Reference ranges for GE measurements were calculated in the normal population. A previously stored volume dataset of 60 cases with MCD was also analyzed independently by the two operators using the same method in order to assess if GE abnormalities (cavitation or enlargement) were present. Postnatal follow‐up was obtained in all cases.ResultsIn the study period, 160 normal fetuses between 19 and 22 weeks of gestation were included in the study. The GE was visible in the coronal plane on 3D neurosonography in 144 (90%) cases and was not clearly visible in the remaining 16 (10%) cases. The intra‐ and interobserver agreement was almost perfect for the longitudinal diameter, with an intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) of 0.90 (95% CI, 0.83–0.93) and 0.90 (95% CI, 0.86–0.92), respectively, and substantial for the transverse diameter, with an ICC of 0.80 (95% CI, 0.70–0.87) and 0.64 (95% CI, 0.53–0.72), respectively. A retrospective analysis of 50 cases with MCD in the second trimester showed that GE enlargement was present in 12 cases and GE cavitation was present in four cases.ConclusionsSystematic assessment of the GE in fetuses at 19–22 weeks of gestation is feasible on 3D neurosonography, with good reproducibility in normal cases. Cavitation or enlargement of the GE can be demonstrated in fetuses with MCD. © 2023 The Authors. Introduction: placental anomalies can affect fetal and maternal outcome due to severe maternal hemorrhage potentially resulting in hysterectomy and cord accident including abruption that can determine fetal damage or death. The aims of our study are to determine if the rate of placental and umbilical cord anomalies are more common in IVF singleton pregnancies compared to spontaneous pregnancies; to evaluate the role of ultrasound in screening for these anomalies and to investigate if oocyte donor fertilization is an additional risk factor for the development of these anomalies. Methods: this was a prospective cohort study involving two tertiary centers. Patients with a singleton pregnancy conceived with IVF and patients presenting with a spontaneous conception were recruited between 1st May 2019 to 31st March 2021. A total of 634 pregnancies were enrolled in the study. All patients underwent similar antenatal care, which included ultrasound examinations at 11-14, 19-22 and 33-35 weeks. Ultrasound findings of placental and/or umbilical cord abnormalities were recorded using the same protocol for both groups and confirmed after birth. Results: IVF pregnancies had a significantly higher risk of low-lying placenta, placenta previa, bilobed placenta and velamentous cord insertion (VCI) compared with spontaneous pregnancies. In the heterologous subgroup there was a significant increased incidence of placenta accreta spectrum (PAS) disorders than in spontaneous pregnancies. All these anomalies were identified prenatally on ultrasound imaging and confirmed at birth. Discussion: IVF pregnancies in general and those resulting from donor oocyte in particular are at higher risk of placental and umbilical cord abnormalities compared to spontaneous pregnancies. These anomalies can be diagnosed accurately at the mid-trimester detailed fetal anomaly scan and our findings support the need for a targeted ultrasound screening of these anomalies in IVF pregnancies.
Introduction: The objective of this randomized controlled study was to demonstrate whether acoustic stimulation in utero is associated with fetal reactivity which is documentable by cardiotocography. Materials and methods: A monocentric randomized controlled trial was performed at a single university tertiary hospital between September 2016 and July 2017. This study was registered as a randomized clinical trial on clinicaltrail.gov (registration number NCT04622059). Unselected pregnancies at term of gestation were consecutively recruited for the purpose of this study. After 10 min of normal cardiotocography without accelerations (non-stress-test with a basal frequency between 110 and 150 beats/min, normal variability between 6 and 15 b/min, no accelerations, and no fetal movements), fetuses were randomized at a 1:1 ratio to either of the two groups. Fetuses in group A (n = 105) received acoustic stimulation after 10 min from the beginning of the CTG, whereas fetuses in group B received no stimulation (n = 105). The outcome variables investigated were the lapse of time between the beginning of the CTG and the occurrence of the first acceleration, and the lapse of time between the beginning of the CTG and the first fetal movement noticed. Results: The lapse of time between the beginning of the CTG and the occurrence of the first acceleration was significantly shorter in the group with acoustic stimulation compared to the other group (14.87 ± 5.01 vs. 21.90 ± 6.94 min, p-value < 0.001 log-rank test). Similarly, the lapse of time between the beginning of the CTG and the occurrence of the first fetal movement was significantly shorter in group A compared to group B (17.77 ± 7.62 vs. 23.28 ± 7.61 min, p-value < 0.001, log-rank test). Fetal cardiac acceleration and the occurrence of a fetal movement during the first 20 min of the CTG were more frequently recorded in group A compared to group B (respectively, 15% vs. 5% and 20% vs. 8%). Conclusion: This RCT showed an early fetal reaction following auditive stimulus, documentable by cardiotocography. Further research is needed to investigate a possible role of acoustic stimulation in utero for the prenatal diagnosis of congenital hypoacusis.
Background: developmental dysplasia of the hip has an incidence of 3–5 out of 1000 children. Currently, only postnatal screening is available. Objective: to test the feasibility of a method based on Graf technique application at antenatal ultrasound in assessing the normal development of the hip in unselected term fetuses. Methods: a prospective cohort study in a single university tertiary hospital from January 2017 to January 2020. Single uncomplicated term pregnancies (37–40 weeks) attending our center for routine ultrasound were consecutively recruited for the purpose of the study. A 3D volume acquisition was launched on the coxofemoral joint of the fetus by a single expert operator, and offline analysis was then performed in the multiplanar mode by two operators (blinded to each other analysis) in order to measure the alpha and beta angles according to our modified Graf technique. Intra- and inter-observer variations were calculated. Reference charts for normal values of both angles were produced. Postnatal ultrasound was then performed to measure the Graf angles in newborns, confirming a normal development of the hip. Results: in the study period, 433 uncomplicated term pregnancies underwent 3D ultrasound for the assessment of the fetal hip. One case was subsequently excluded because of confirmed postnatal diagnosis of developmental dysplasia of the hip. The measurement of our modified Graf angles was feasible at prenatal ultrasound with a good reproducibility. The inter-rater and intra-rater reliability of both angles was substantial. Reference charts for normal values of both angles were produced. Conclusions: the evaluation of the coxofemoral joint in fetuses at term of gestation has never been attempted before. The Graf technique application, currently employed at postnatal ultrasound, may also be adapted to prenatal ultrasound with a substantial reproducibility. However, there was no evidence of a linear relationship between prenatal and postnatal alpha angles and beta angles. Further research is needed to establish if developmental dysplasia of the hip could be diagnosed antenatally.
BACKGROUND Hypoxia caused by inadequate intracardiac mixing owing to a restrictive foramen ovale is a potentially life-threatening complication in neonates with dextro-transposition of the great arteries. An urgent balloon atrial septostomy is a procedure of choice in such cases, but dependent on the availability of a 24-hour interventional cardiology facility. The prenatal identification of predictors for an urgent balloon atrial septostomy at birth would help in optimizing the management of these neonates, minimizing the risk of hypoxic damage. OBJECTIVE This study aimed to predict with prenatal echocardiography the need of urgent balloon atrial septostomy in neonates with dextro-transposition of the great arteries. STUDY DESIGN This was a retrospective cohort study of patients with a prenatal diagnosis of transposition of the great arteries that were delivered in our center between 2010 and 2019, for whom fetal ultrasound echocardiograms obtained at less than 3 weeks before delivery were available. The following parameters were systematically obtained at fetal echocardiography: size and appearance of the foramen ovale, septum primum excursion (foramen ovale flap angle at the maximal excursion), diameters of the atria, and size of the ductus arteriosus. Balloon atrial septostomy was defined as urgent if performed within 12 hours from birth in neonates with restrictive foramen ovale. Neonatal follow-up was obtained through medical records analysis. RESULTS From November 2007 to April 2019, 160 fetuses with complete transposition of the great arteries were referred to our echocardiography laboratory and 60 of these were included in the analysis; 27 underwent urgent balloon atrial septostomy, 11 elective balloon atrial septostomy, and 22 no balloon atrial septostomy. The size of the foramen ovale was the best predictor of an urgent balloon atrial septostomy. A measurement of >6.5 mm had a sensitivity of 100% and a false positive rate of 45%. CONCLUSION Fetal echocardiography predicts the need of an urgent balloon atrial septostomy in fetuses with dextro-transposition of the great arteries although with a limited precision. In our experience, a measurement of the foramen ovale within 3 weeks of delivery had the greatest accuracy.
The association between in vitro fertilisation (IVF) and placental abnormalities is known but there are currently no data of the effects of the use of donor oocytes on placentation. The aim of our study was to prospectively quantify the incidence of placenta abnormalities in IVF pregnancies in a large cohort, and to assess whether heterologous fertilisation is an additional risk factor for the development of these abnormalities. A multicentre prospective study that consecutively enrolled pregnancies conceived with IVF at routine anomaly scan. Spontaneous pregnancies were enrolled at the same gestational age as controls. All patients underwent routine antenatal care. Ultrasound findings of placental or umbilical cord abnormalities were recorded in the two groups and confirmed after birth. The occurrence of placental findings in the study groups was assessed using the chi-squared test or Fisher's exact test, where appropriate. Post-hoc pairwise comparisons were performed with the Fisher's exact test, using the Simes' method for false discovery rate control. 601pregnancies were included: 272 spontaneous, 329 IVF (248 conceived with homologous and 81 with heterologous fertilisation). Overall, abnormalities of the placenta and umbilical cord were significantly more frequent in the IVF group, compared with spontaneous pregnancies. IVF pregnancies presented with significantly increased risk of velamentous cord insertion (p = 0.003), low-lying placenta (p < 0.001), previa (p = 0.025) and bilobed (p < 0.001), compared with spontaneous pregnancies. Heterologous pregnancies presented with an additional risk when compared with homologous pregnancies (p < 0.001), in particular, for the incidence of placenta accreta spectrum (PAS) (p = 0.019). Our data confirm that IVF pregnancies are at higher risks of placental and umbilical cord abnormalities including PAS. Our findings support the need for targeted screening of these anomalies as if undiagnosed before birth they can lead to high maternal and fetal morbidity.
Single umbilical artery (SUA) increases the risk of fetal growth restriction (FGR) and low birthweight. The aim of this study was to evaluate the changes in the diameter of the umbilical artery in fetuses with SUA compared with controls, and to investigate if there is a correlation between the diameter of the umbilical artery and fetal weight. Multicentre retrospective study (Sant'Orsola Hospital, University of Bologna and Institute for Women's Health, University College of London). 196 fetuses with SUA and 200 controls were included. The diameter of cord vessels was measured in a transverse view of the umbilical cord at 20–22 weeks. Logistic regression and nonparametric receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis was carried out to investigate the association of umbilical artery diameter in single-artery fetuses with FGR and low birthweight. Afterwards, the impact of artery diameter was adjusted for the umbilical resistance index (RI) by including this variable as a covariate in the regression model. In a secondary analysis, differences in umbilical artery diameter between cases and controls were evaluated with two-tailed t-test. We found a significantly larger mean vessel diameter in SUA, compared with controls (3.0 ± 0.9mm vs 2.5 ± 0.6 mm) (p < 0.001). A cut-off of 2.1 mm and 2.2 mm was determined for the diameter of the single umbilical artery, which correlates respectively with a higher risk of FGR and low birthweight. We observed no significant difference after controlling for the effect of umbilical RI (FGR: OR = 0.60, 95% CI = 0.31–1.13; SGA: OR = 0.70, 95% CI = 0.45–1.11). In fetuses diagnosed with SUA at 20–22 weeks, the mean diameter of single umbilical artery was significantly larger than in controls. A larger vessel is related with a lower risk of FGR and low birthweight.

The decision of whether to terminate the pregnancy according to the different types of congenital heart defects has not been investigated yet.OBJECTIVE:This study aimed to evaluate the frequency of voluntary termination of pregnancy after the prenatal diagnosis of a congenital heart defect in a tertiary care center.STUDY DESIGN:This was a retrospective study of patients who were referred to our center from January 2013 to December 2019, underwent fetal echocardiography, and were counseled by a perinatologist and a pediatric cardiologist. The following data were collected: prenatal diagnosis, including genetic testing; gestational age at diagnosis; and outcome of pregnancy. The diagnoses were stratified retrospectively according to the type of congenital heart defect and its severity (low complexity, moderate complexity, and high complexity) by a perinatologist and a pediatric cardiologist.RESULTS:Of 704 women who received a diagnosis of fetal congenital heart defect, 531 (75.4%) were seen before 23 weeks' gestation, which is the upper limit imposed for the termination of pregnancy by the Italian legislation. Congenital heart defects were apparently isolated in 437 of 531 cases (82.3%). Overall, 108 of 531 patients (20.3%) requested a termination of pregnancy. The rate of termination of pregnancy was found to vary according to the severity of congenital heart defects: low complexity, 0%; moderate complexity, 12.1%, and high complexity, 33.2% (P<.001). The presence or absence of associated anomalies or the ethnicity of the couples was not found to have an influence on women's decisions.CONCLUSION:In our population, the decision to terminate a pregnancy after the diagnosis of a fetal congenital heart defect is influenced by the surgical complexity of the congenital heart defect itself. However, most patients, including those with the most severe forms of congenital heart defect, decided to continue the pregnancy.
To predict neonatal outcome in cases with complete transposition of the great arteries (TGA) basing on foramen ovale (FO) morphology at fetal echocardiography. The primary outcome was the necessity of urgent Rashkind procedure. This was a retrospective cohort study. Patients referred to our tertiary centre for suspected complete TGA in a 12-year period.The following parameters were systematically obtained at fetal echocardiography at 34–37 weeks: presence of restrictive (FO), FO diameter, right atrium diameter. Neonatal follow-up was obtained through medical records analysis. From November 2007 to April 2019, 71 fetuses with complete TGA were referred to our echocardiography laboratory. Of these, three were lost at follow up. Of the 68 remaining cases, 31 underwent urgent Rashkind procedure, 22 elective Rashkind procedure and 15 no procedure. Cases with restrictive FO had a significantly higher risk of urgent Rashking procedure compared with cases with normal FO (p < 0.05). Cases with smaller FO diameter and larger right atrium at fetal echocardiography had a significantly increased risk of urgent Rashkind procedure (p < 0.05). In cases with complete TGA a restrictive or narrow FO and a large right atrium at fetal echocardiography are associated with a worse neonatal outcome.
