A combined mechanical LiF:F-2 color center passive Q-switch was used for YAG: Nd lasers. This system gives monopulse emission when each of the switches used alone give multiple pulse generation. Energy in switched regime represents up to 0.7–0.8 from that in free-generation regime, for the same pump energy. Pulse duration is considerably shorter than for the case when only one of the switches is used, leading to monopulse emission with very high peak power in the neodymium lasers.
Phase spectra are used to improve the resolution of the chronospectroscopic method for luminescence studies. From the analysis of these phase spectra the range is found for which the separation power is maximum. The phase difference Delta phi between two luminescent lines is calculated, using a simple three-level fluorescence system, as a function of the modulation frequency omega of the excitation light. The well-resolved spectrum of U6+ in NaF obtained by suppressing the 555.0 nm line at 1010 Hz modulation frequency is also presented.
An analytical treatment of the intensity of the forbidden hyperfine lines or large fine structure parameter D is developed. General expressions are obtained with the effective magnetic field method. The unusual ESR hyperfine spectra of Mn2+ in NH4Cl at X, K, and Q microwave bands are interpreted in terms of this improved theory.
