Eight samples of triticale (six varieties) were evaluated by digestibility trials using pigs. Relationships between the energy and digestibility values and the concentration of the main chemical constituents of the seeds were established. The most accurate correlations were obtained between the crude fibre content and the digestibility values (0.99 for digestible energy vs. 0.88 and 0.92 for crude protein and organic matter, respectively). Neither the crude protein nor the protein fraction profile had any significant relationship with digestibility. It was concluded that, for equivalent chemical compositions, the digestibility of triticale cultivars in pigs is mainly dependent on their crude fibre content, irrespective of the variety.
