Purpose of the paper:Starting from an overview of current trends, the aim of the present study is to identify models of cultural heritage enhancement in terms of consumer enjoyment from a new temporal and cognitive perspective.Methodology: The paper starts with a theoretical-conceptual analysis inherent to the main evolutionary stages of cultural heritage enhancement. It follows with the reporting of findings based on the Scenario Based Design (SBD) method relative to industrial research and experimental development in the context of the FIBAC project.Findings: The research evidences the empirical nature of the theoretical analysis carried out, identifying key elements relative to the visitor's experiential dimension and highlighting innovative modalities of cultural experience.Research limits: The focus of the research addresses empirical evidence resulting from a specific scenario, however to enable the generalization of the findings in terms of validity and reliability, a more widespread analysis would be necessary. Practical implications:The logic underlying the experimental element of the project envisages the full involvement and participation of the visitors and represents a stimulus for exalting the managerial potential of cultural institutions (in particular museums) from the perspective of service management.Originality of the paper: This lies in the resorting to SBD methodology, relative to the development of customized technologies in the specific context of the cultural heritage experience, above all from an interdisciplinary point of view.Furthermore, given the state of the art, the study represents the first concrete experience carried out within the museum context.
Governance is a widely used term charged with often conflicting meanings. The object of our paper relates to the concept of public governance in a stakeholder relationship governance perspective, aimed at creating consensus in decision making processes. In effect, the legitimising of public decision making authorities consists not in the exercise of top down powers concretized in formal instruments and mandatory consequences, but rather, in creating conditions that involve stakeholders more fully, encouraging them to take an active role in public decision making processes. The paper also examines the trend in “relational” terms of features characterizing the Public Administrations both from a theoretical and empirical point of view. From the empirical perspective, the research concerns local Public Administrations (Regional, Provincial and Local Authorities). On the basis of the constructs underpinning the theoretical analysis, the diverse modalities of interaction between the relative parties (Institutions and stakeholders) will be examined, taking into account: specific actions and tools utilized. The analysis will examine furthermore, the category of stakeholders involved (citizens, businesses, etc.). Finally, the paper attempts to underline the innovative shift from a Citizen Relationship Management perspective to that of Stakeholder Relationship Governance and the potential implications for further research.
This paper presents an innovative model delivering value-added services (VAS) on a multi-application card using both payment and VAS during the same payment transaction. The idea was born in the framework of the TITAN research project, with the aim of achieving a multi-application and multi-channel platform. Starting from EPAS protocol’s perspective to standardise electronic payments, the aim is to include VAS data management in the current financial messages. In order to improve the process of card payment transactions through the delivery of new VAS, cooperation between EPASOrg and TITAN’s team was established. This cooperation facilitated the examination and submission to ISO 20022 of data components related to the provision of VAS meeting the requirements of those new contactless applications developed during project activities. The latter result led a Change Request to ISO in order to allow the extension to VAS on standard ISO 20022 related to card payment. The innovative model proposed is validated through an example with reference to a transport service delivery, highlighting the full benefits of innovative and integrated payment services. The conclusion summarises the next steps and underlines possible implications for future business and technological developments.
Abstract This paper introduces an entrepreneurial innovation supported by public research. TITAN is an R&D project funded by European Structural Funds with the National Operational Program for “Research and Competitiveness” 2007–2013 (NOP for R&C). General purpose of TITAN project is to achieve a multi-application and multi-channel platform to manage value-added services (VAS) and e-payments. From the EPAS protocols perspective of standardizing the electronic payment, VAS data management will be included in the current financial messages (CAPE – ISO 20022). In order to improve the process of card payment transactions through the delivery of new VAS was born the cooperation between EPASOrg and TITAN’s team. This cooperation would facilitate the examination and submission to ISO 20022 of data components related to the provision of added-value services meeting the requirements of those new contactless applications developed in the framework of the project. This is the principal and most entrepreneurial innovation concentrated on the integration of payment and VAS that draws attention to a new model delivering the VAS on a multi-application device used by both payment and VAS, during the same payment transaction. The latter result has led a Change Request to ISO in order to allow the extension to the VAS on the standard ISO 20022 related to card payment. The innovative model proposed is validated through a sample scenario and, finally, the conclusions summarize the next steps and underlines possible implications for future business and technological developments.
During recent years radical changes have affected universities in most Western European countries, implying new pressures and demands on higher education systems and deeply influencing the context in which universities operate. The paper attempts to investigate governance issues and the need for new strategic paths emerging as a result of changed scenarios. Specifically, the greater number of stakeholders involved in academic activities requires universities to take into account a variety of social, economic and cultural factors when making strategic decisions. Adjustments in board composition through appointing non-academic members are signals of such trends. Moving from this consideration and relying on data on the governance structures of Italian universities, the paper discusses challenges for academic institutions in terms of change in their strategic management and governance structures as well as the likely directions such change is taking.
This chapter analyses the concept of collaborative knowledge management introducing a case study of an Italian firm, MOMA, the main actor of the network ‘Pole of Excellence on Knowledge’. This chapter illustrates MOMA’s vision, evolution, profile and business strategy.
The paper aims to identify conditions and factors that can either facilitate or limit the generation of knowledge which can help improve firms' competitiveness. By implication, the growth and development of innovative firms contributes to the competitiveness of the territory in which they operate. Our research is divided into three macro phases that deal with theoretical analysis, empirical research and the resulting comparison between the two. In the first phase, we examine contributions from both Italian and International academics/and experts who have tackled the theme of innovation. We also study the analysis of the phenomenon of innovation in more depth, both at the individual business level and at a territorial level. The empirical research carried out in the second phase of the paper deals with firms that operate in the area of Salerno (city of Salerno and its province). Finally, in the summary we compare the results from the empirical research with those from the theoretical analysis.
The growing normative, financial, organizational and didactic autonomy, which has interested European universities, has stimulated the monitoring processes on efficiency, efficacy, and operational methods with which public resources are managed. Moreover, the association between financial funds, along with sustained costs and service quality, has strongly increased top management's attention to costs reduction and, above all, to the final user's satisfaction. In this new scenario, evaluation comes out to be the natural consequence of the strong universities' autonomist pressure. Therefore, this paper, after approaching universities' structural and systemic assets, as well as their relationship with the referring contest, analyses specific (related to the formative offer) and global university's performances measurement methods and evaluation difficulties. The exposed theoretical analyses are completed with an empirical application about an engineering degree course self-assessment.
