Disability is often associated with the need for support in broader society, and the employment of individuals with disabilities is frequently addressed in terms of providing them with personal, social, and economic assistance. However, for individuals with disabilities, the choice of an occupation can also serve as a means of supporting others and contributing to their well-being. This study focuses on understanding the variables associated with high school students with physical disabilities who prefer occupations that position them as providers rather than recipients of help. 76 high school students with physical disabilities participated in the study. Results indicated that the most highly endorsed vocational values were 'friendship' and 'helping others'. Students with personality traits of extraversion and conscientiousness demonstrated higher levels of active coping and posttraumatic growth. Furthermore, those with higher levels of active coping and posttraumatic growth were more likely to value helping others as a vocational ideal.
IntroductionThis cross-sectional study investigated the sequential mediating effect of hope and career adaptability on the relationship between trait emotional intelligence and vocational outcome expectations among preservice teachers.MethodsData were collected from 311 preservice teachers (239 female, 72 male) across various teaching disciplines. The SPSS Amos software package was used for data analysis.ResultsThe findings indicate that trait emotional intelligence is significantly associated with vocational outcome expectations. Crucially, the results demonstrate that both hope and career adaptability collectively mediate this relationship through a sequential mediation effect.DiscussionThese results reveal that vocational outcome expectations are also shaped by emotional and motivational resources, thereby contributing to the existing literature on the professional development processes of preservice teachers.
Career decidedness, career decision-making self-efficacy, and proactive career behaviors are critical variables in individuals’ vocational development. While cross-sectional research has established associations between these constructs, such designs fail to capture the dynamic, temporal nature of career development or establish clear directional influences. Grounded in Social Cognitive Career Theory (SCCT), the present longitudinal study addressed this gap by examining whether career decidedness mediated the relationship between career decision-making self-efficacy and proactive career behaviors over time. Data were collected in two waves from 390 Turkish university students and analyzed using a cross-lagged panel model. The results demonstrated that initial levels of career decision-making self-efficacy significantly predicted subsequent increases in career decidedness, which in turn predicted higher levels of proactive career behaviors. These findings suggest that career decidedness serves as a temporal bridge, translating self-belief into career-related actions. Practically, the study highlights the importance of university counseling interventions that simultaneously boost students’ self-efficacy and decision-making clarity to foster long-term proactive career engagement.
IntroductionTeachers' professional identity has recently become a prominent focus in educational research, as it is closely related to teachers' effectiveness, motivation, and professional performance. Identifying the psychological factors that strengthen teachers' sense of professional identity is therefore critical, particularly in challenging professional contexts.MethodsThis study examined the associations between cognitive control/flexibility and teachers' professional identity in Türkiye, with an emphasis on the sequential and multiple mediating roles of career optimism, career engagement, and career adaptability. The sample consisted of 372 teachers (175 women and 197 men). Data were analyzed using structural equation modeling and serial multiple mediation analysis, with the integrated use of SPSS, AMOS, and JASP software.ResultsThe findings revealed that career optimism, career adaptability, and career engagement functioned as significant serial and multiple mediators in the relationship between cognitive control/flexibility and professional identity. While cognitive control/flexibility showed limited direct effects, their influence on professional identity was transmitted primarily through career-related psychological resources. In addition, individual characteristics, particularly age, were found to influence these processes.DiscussionThe results highlight the importance of fostering career development, motivation, and psychological flexibility in supporting teachers' professional identity. These findings offer practical implications for educational policy and teacher development programs, emphasizing the role of career-related resources in sustaining teachers' professional effectiveness and long-term career engagement.
IntroductionThis study investigated how conscientiousness and perfectionism mediate the relationship between parental warmth and parental rejection and Vocational Outcome Expectations (VOE).MethodsData from 729 university students (ages 17–42) were ana lyzed via structural equation modeling.ResultsResults showed that perceived parental warmth (both maternal and paternal) positively predicted VOE, with conscien tiousness partially mediating these relationships. While zero-order correlations indicated a negative relationship between parental rejection and VOE, structural models revealed more complex dynamics. Specifically, perfectionism acted as an inconsistent mediator (suppression effect) in the relationship between maternal rejection and VOE, whereas perceived paternal rejection was indirectly associ ated with VOE through perfectionism.DiscussionThe theoretical and practical implications of these findings are discussed.

This research aims to shed light on the psychological and socioeconomic dimensions of the working environment in Turkey. Structural equation modelling was used in this study, which examined the mediating role of psychological flexibility in the effect of subjective underemployment levels of adult individuals working in Turkey on decent work levels. The data of the study consists of 334 people who are actively working in one of the central provinces of Turkey. As a result of the analyses, it was determined that psychological flexibility partially mediates the relationship between subjective underemployment and decent work. These findings were discussed in the light of other studies in the literature and suggestions were made.
This study examined the mediating role of ostracism in the relationship between adolescents' attachment styles and depression levels. The sample of this study consists of 621 adolescents (66.8% (n = 415) female and 33.2% (n = 206) male) living in one of the developed cities in Turkey. The results showed that ostracism partially mediates the relationship between secure, avoidant, and anxious-ambivalent attachment styles and depression. Based on the results of the study, we confirmed that ostracism partially mediates the relationship between secure attachment and depression. Secure attachment predicted ostracism and depression negatively; we found that ostracism predicted depression positively. Secondly, we found that avoidant attachment predicted depression and ostracism positively, and ostracism played a mediating role in this relationship. Finally, we concluded that anxious-ambivalent attachment positively explains ostracism and depression and that ostracism plays a mediating role in this relationship.
Proactive career behaviors are recognized as key antecedents in the successful transition from the student role to the workforce. In this context, there is a growing need for studies to identify variables that influence the development of proactive career behaviors. This study aims to investigate the mediating role of career adaptability in the relationship between university students' proactive career behaviors and psychological needs. A total of 383 students, including 242 females (63.2%) and 141 males (36.8%), participated in the research. Data were collected using the Balanced Measure of Psychological Needs Scale, the Career Adapt-abilities Scale-Short Form, and the Career Engagement Scale. Structural equation modeling was employed to test whether career adaptability mediates the relationship between psychological needs and proactive career behaviors. The results indicated that proactive career behaviors were significantly related to career adapt-abilities and all three psychological needs: autonomy need, relatedness need, competence. Moreover, career adapt-abilities was found to fully mediate the relationship between proactive career behaviors and psychological needs. By contributing to the literature on proactive career behaviors, this study offers theoretical insights and practical implications that could have positive effects on university students’ successful transition to work life and their career development processes.
This study aimed to develop and validate the University Students Career Sustainability Scale-Turkish Sample (US-CSS-TR) to assess university students’ perceptions of career sustainability within the Turkish context. The research sought to establish the scale’s validity and reliability while examining its relationships with job-finding anxiety, work volition, and proactive career behavior. The study followed a quantitative research design, collecting data from undergraduate students at various state and foundation universities in Istanbul. The scale development process included exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) to assess structural validity. Measurement invariance tests were conducted across gender groups, and correlation network analyses were performed to examine the relationships between career sustainability and relevant career development factors. Statistical analyses were conducted using SPSS, AMOS, JASP, and JAMOVI. EFA and CFA confirmed a unidimensional structure for the US-CSS-TR, demonstrating strong internal consistency and reliability (Cronbach’s alpha = 0.911 to 0.920). Measurement invariance analyses indicated that the scale was invariant across gender groups. Correlation analyses revealed that proactive career behavior had the strongest positive association with career sustainability perceptions, followed by work volition, while job-finding anxiety had a negative but non-significant relationship with career sustainability. Network analysis further highlighted the central role of proactive career behavior and work volition in shaping career sustainability perceptions. The study provides empirical evidence supporting the US-CSS-TR as a valid and reliable instrument for assessing career sustainability perceptions among Turkish university students. Findings suggest that proactive career behavior and work volition are key contributors to career sustainability development. The study underscores the importance of proactive career planning and adaptability in career sustainability, offering valuable insights for career counseling and educational interventions.

Abstract High school years constitute one of the critical periods for individuals' career choice and career development. Based on this, it is essential to identify the factors that negatively affect students' career decisions and to intervene against them. This study aimed to contribute to the literature by testing a model that predicts pessimism, defensive pessimism, and avoidant coping to explain career indecision. 778 high school students (587 girls, 191 boys; Mage = 16.4 years, SD = .52) participated in this study, and students completed self-report measures of the above-mentioned constructs. The results showed that pessimism and career indecision were significantly related, with defensive pessimism and avoidant coping supporting a significant serial mediation model between pessimism and career indecision. These results provide substantial empirical evidence and recommendations that suggest promising ways to reduce career indecision in adolescents, pessimism, defensive pessimism, and avoidant coping.
Although there are studies on career decision-making self-efficacy and emotional intelligence, career optimism, locus of control, and proactive personality, no study addresses these four variables together. Therefore, this meta-analysis study examined the correlational findings between career decision-making self-efficacy and four different variables (emotional intelligence, career optimism, locus of control, and proactive personality). In this study, studies published between 1993-2022 examining the relationship between the variables determined from 10 scientific databases (Eric, JSTOR, Sage Journal, Google Academic, Scopus, Springer Ling, Taylor, and Francis ULAKBİM, Proquest, EBSCO) and career decision-making self-efficacy were used. As a result of the research, career decision-making self-efficacy and optimism (r = 0.46; 95% CI [0.33, 0.57]), locus of control (r = 0.36; 95% CI [0.02, 0.62]), proactive personality (r = 0.47; %) 95 CI [0.37, 0.57]) and emotional intelligence (r = 0.45; 95% CI [0.35, 0.54]) were found to be significantly correlated. These critical results point to promising aspects for researchers and practitioners working in career counseling.
This study examines a hypothetical model underlying the relationship between perceived warmth from mothers and fathers and marital quality. Structural equation modeling (SEM) and a multistep path test were used to examine the hypothetical model. 482 (361 women, 121 men, Mage = 35.06 years, SD = 9.79) married individuals in Turkey participated in the study. SEM and path analyses showed a good fit for the hypothetical model of the study. Positive conflict resolution skills mediated the link between trait emotional intelligence and marital quality. Implications for researchers and practitioners for future studies on couples are discussed.
The university years are when individuals evaluate their qualifications, make choices about their careers, and develop the adaptation process and skills they may need for the careers that they may choose. In this context, individuals’ competencies and abilities in various fields play an essential role. Four hundred nine university students (304 female, 105 male) participated in this study. This research explains the theoretical model that the variables of general self-efficacy, and career adaptability affect the hope through structural equation modeling (SEM). The findings of general self-efficacy and career adaptability explain hope by 85
Middle school years are when young people need environmental support for career development. In this context, parents play an essential role in the career development of young people. The sample of the study consisted of 368 middle school students (236 girls, 132 boys). The model of the mediating role of self-oriented perfectionism between parental support and career development in middle school students was tested. Participants completed self-report data collection tools to assess career development, career-related parental support, and perfectionism. As a result of the analyses in which the structural equation model was used, it was determined that the model showed a good fit. In addition, self-oriented perfectionism has a mediating role in the relationship between parental support and career development. These results are thought to be essential for the guidance services to be applied in career development.
The study analyzed the relationships between high school students’ career maturity, career decision-making difficulties, and career decision-making self-efficacy and aimed to investigate whether career maturity, career decision-making difficulties and career decision-making self-efficacy altered according to gender, type of school, and grade level. The study sample was composed of 665 high school students attending five different high schools in Bursa. The data collection tools included the Career Decision-making Difficulties Questionnaire, the Career Maturity Scale, and the Career Decision-Making Self-Efficacy Scale. Among quantitative research methods, a correlation model was applied. The analysis results revealed a weak but significant negative relationship between career maturity and career decision-making difficulties scale in terms of total scores and subscale scores. Additionally, there was a medium- and low-level significant negative relationship between the career decision-making difficulties scale total and subscale scores, and the career decision-making self-efficacy total and subscale scores. The subsequent analysis to describe the mediating role of career decision-making self-efficacy demonstrated that career decision-making self-efficacy had a partial mediating role. Furthermore, male students were found to have a more disadvantaged status than did female students in terms of career maturity. Based on the fact that students’ career decision-making difficulties stemmed from the aspect of a lack of readiness, psycho education programs can be organized to determine the reasons for the lack of lack of readiness, find solutions, and provide the necessary information and skills. Future studies may focus on examining the reasons for the career maturity level differences.
